This place is excellent. My wife and I stopped in on a Wednesday night while traveling through and had a great time. The bartender is a pro (says she's been bartending for almost 50 years) and runs the bar with a calm, friendly demeanor. Got some great beers for 3.50 each, and mixed drinks and well drinks for cheap! There was also an open mic that was really fun. Definitely a great way to meet the cool part of Butte.

Consistently GREAT MUSIC, exceptional service, cheap drinks, and good times. Check out the lounge and pool tables in the back by the stage. I love this place!

We loved this place.  I agree with the earlier review - if this bar was in Portland, it'd be crawling with hipsters.  As it is, it's a great mix of people and a cool bar.  Nice bartenders.  Friendly crowd.  There was nothing to dislike about this bar.

Butte, Montana: "Definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but the bartenders and staff are wonderful and the layout is nice."

Definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but the bartenders and staff are wonderful and the layout is nice. My wife and I saw The Clintons on Friday night and I must say that the acoustics of this place is perfect! I was worried it'd be an echo-chamber. The Clintons were AWESOME, a must-see band if you're in the area when they're playing. The show went from 9pm-1:45am with only one ten-minute break, and they really were having fun, as was the crowd. One of the most memorable parts of our trip to the area.

Oh the Silver Dollar Saloon, how I miss your honkey-tonkin' ways.

This place is one of my absolute favorite night spots in all of Butte, with an eclectic crowd of locals, and excellent live music.

I have NEVER had a bad time at "The Dollar" as the locals call it.

The great thing about the Dollar is that if it were in any other big city, it would totally be taken over by pretentious hipsters and yuppie scum, but since its in Butte...well, it hasn't quite hit that market yet.

The Dollar is that cool kid in school, who is oblivious to his hipness, which only makes him that much cooler.

There is a wide age range of people who frequent this bar, and the bartenders are always friendly and chatty.  The locals are welcoming to most 'outta towners' and are more than willing to sit and chat about 'old Butte'.

Attire ranges to casual (I've gone in post-run, in shorts and a stinky tshirt) to dressy if you're so inclined, and either way you're treated with the same hometown friendliness.  Drinks are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, with beers runnin' you from $1.25-$3.00, and a gin and tonic starting at $2.50 for well, and $3.00ish if you want something above sub-standard.  Most mixed drinks start at $2.50.

The interior is red, with the old-time original bar set up from the early 1900s.  There are pictures from Butte's Hay Day scattered on the walls, along with paintings by local artists.  Various Irish flags litter the bar room, and there's a small pool table in the back.

The dance room and stage also lie in the back of the bar, so if dancing isn't your thing, you can hide, bellied up to the counter with no one being any wiser to your lack of dancin' skills.

Nights with live music are the best, with people of all ages dancing around simply for the sake of dancing.  I have seen some of the worst, and some of the best dancing at the dollar, and the beauty is that no one cares, as long as you're having fun.  Bands genres typical to the live music scene are rock, and bluegrass, with some spatterings of reggae here and there.

Bands that bring out the best of the crowds (and dance moves) are the Clumsy Lovers, and the Clintons.  If you have a chance to make it here when these bands are in town, you definitely won't be disappointed.

Until we meet again, Dollar, until we meet again...
