We drank their special sangria and chatted with some friendly patrons before our dinner reservations elsewhere.  No complaints!  This place isn't really anything special but its not a bad place to stop for a drink.

Food was good but the margaritas were even better! Good atmosphere but it gets pretty loud in here on a Friday night. The bar was crowded, but for good reason. Credit cards are accepted here now, so no worries.

    HORRIBLE. Just HORRIBLE.

NO atmosphere inside the restaurant; literally feel like you're sitting in a wide open cafeteria. Nothing on the walls, just a big open room...

DISGUSTING salsa & chips; it's like they've dumped their 'salsa' out of a can...a can of plain red sauce as if it belongs atop enchiladas.

NASTY food... seriously. I ordered shrimp tacos and they literally cut ONE shrimp up into tiny pieces, mixed it with a bunch of cabbage, and THAT was my taco...

PUT SOME MONEY INTO YOUR RESTAURANT YOU CHEAP BASTARDS!!!!

Margaritas are the best, the chili rellanos sucked and were stringy.

OK, that review was started years ago (oops) all I can say now is this isn't like the old Sinaloa.

Sinaloas is a great family restaurant.  The atmosphere is friendly, and family oriented.  The furnishings etc. are a little run down, but the food is always good.  Their salsa and chips are fantastic and I LOVE their blended mango margaritas.  classic and tasty.

Sinaloa used to be packed always. Now it's empty on Saturday nights. Rude bartender tried to short change me last night 10.00. Been going there since the old days. Overpriced , lousy drinks, rude employees. Won't be long to they go under.

    Never been disappointed here.
    It's cash only now though.
I go here almost every week for dinner and it's not crowded, has free chips and salsa, prices are a bit steep and the burritos aren't worth it, but everything else is really good, especially their tostada salad.

Really wanted to like this place... But it just isn't what it apparently used to be. The margaritas tasted like straight tequila/water (no thanks), the service took forever, the food was not warm after the wait and no one was very friendly or attentive. Such a shame in a great location surrounded by other local gem restaurants. Tried this spot personally twice, my family has three times and all those visits (plus others I've heard) were the same. Too bad, but I won't be back.

The theme from long-time Morgan Hillers is one of dissapointed loyalty at Sinaloa's.  Rumors of sons taking the restaurant over after unfortunate fire at old, classic location and Mom no longer involved appear to be true based on poor service and food inconsistency.  Still the best Margarita's ( secret in use Hornitos Anejo and they add a bit of sparkling water on the top. Chips are good and hot salsa which is marinated in a dried chile's, vinegar and water solution is excellent.  Food and Service are 2 stars now.

***Warning**** There is a paper sign on the BACK DOOR that indicates as of April 1st they do not accept credit cards.  Overpriced food.  My meal was $14.50, and consisted of 3 items with rice and beans.  I could get that for half that at El Burro, and it would be 10 times better.  Margaritas are overpriced as well $8.50 each.

The best part is when we were told they don't accept credit cards... they also said, "yeah and we have an ATM but it doesn't work... you can walk to Chase or Wells Fargo."  By the way, there is a Visa and MasterCard sticker right by the register.  I did point that out.  There is also a sign next to the front door about God accepting cash and plastic.  Who has $65 off hand to spend on a meal?  It's a total rip off, and I don't expect this place to stay in business very long.  Do yourself a favor and go to a taco truck if you have to pay cash.  You'll get better food.

Holy cow!!!  This used to be a go to place back in the day, so when my daughter and I were in town looking for lunch we decided it was time to try it again.  Big, big mistake. It's not as cool as the old place (before the fire) but I figure as long as the food is good who cares.  The food was the worst I've had in some time.  I ordered a tostada combo with green salad. My salad consisted of iceberg lettuce, a half slice of tomato and cheap bottled ranch dressing. When the meal came the fried tortilla came with a layer of beans, then a big glop of tasteless shredded beef (there were only two choices, shredded beef or chicken) more iceberg lettuce and half a slice of tomato and thats it, no salsa, no avocado, nada... And for all this and a side of beans I was charged close to $10.00 for just that plate.  The entire bill was over $28.00 with my daughter ordering the taco lunch plate.  Neither one of us was able to finish the food.  When I told one of the waitresses she said others have  been making the same complaints. Even when requested the manager was a no show.  Simply put, the food both looks and tastes as though no one cares and as long as the bill is paid management wins.  Give this one a pass, your stomach will thank you.

We moved to Morgan Hill not to long ago and went to this restaurant by recommendation. I had some of the most bland food I have ever eaten and a mediocre margarita. We ordered enchiladas and tacos. It was the meat that had no seasoning and the toppings tasted like they came from a can or jar. The margarita, despite my request for fresh lime juice, was chalk full of Rose's lime syrup, cheap sweet and sour and maybe half a shot of tequila, sad.

I have spent 7 years as a bartender (very recently) and like most Californians, have had my fair share of mexican food so I am comfortable saying that there are much better places for good mexican food and awesome margaritas.

For the record, we gave this place a second try and the verdict was the same, never again.

    Sorry.

I'm not a Morgan HIll "Local" but on the way back from Gilroy outlets we WERE STARVING and literally stopped at this restaurant with our fingers crossed that the 4 stars on YELP actually were true----that turned out to be FALSE

TASTE:  THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS REVIEW
    THE FOOD SUCKS!!!

From the STALE CHIPS sitting in piles of baskets on top of each other(unsanitary)the plastic bottom of the baskets touch the tops of the next set of chips yuck!  under a warm lamp to the overly heated plates filled with tons of beans and rice and small entrees.  I ordered the flautas dinner, my fiancé ordered the two taco dinner, and we ordered our toddler the quesdailla kids meal.   You would of thought all we ordered was beans and rice because they took up 95% of the serving.  I actually would be fine with that if the beans and rice were any good.  They are NOT GOOD afterwords... if you know what I mean. The true test of a Mexican restaurant are the beans and rice. They are a Mexican staple and very easy to make if you mess that up you may as well close up shop and start from square one. The ONLY highlight from the kitchen (if its even made there) was their house salsa.

LOOK: the place needs major decor upgrades its run down with the floor appearing uneven in some spots even slanted down.  Also the busing area where chips and salsa and water are refilled is in the dining area and almost appears to be self serve. I felt like I was on an episode of kitchen nightmares from all the bad decor to the unsanitary conditions.

FEEL: The place feels like a time warp back to a time I HOPE real people never inhabited.

DRINKS: We ordered cokes which were like a watered down version of coke and sprite.  I drank my water instead.

SERVICE:  Our first waitress was nice but she left us to tend to a party of 20 without letting us know.  The second waitress who took over our abandoned table was sweet and courteous.  The staff is actually nice.  ITS just the food that really hurt my stomach. WE wasted our money here and will never go here again!

My family has been going here for 15 years. it used to be good, but has gone WAY down hill. The service is bad and the food doesn't taste like it used to. Sorry to disappoint the people who want to try it now, but the food here is no longer good. RIP. Sinaloa Cafe

If you look at the reviews here, you will find that almost all of them refer to their great Margaritas. Sinaloa, themselves, advertise in the local paper and Out and About "the Best Margaritas in Town!"

Now, I must ask, if your specialty and what you build your restaurant on is your Mexican FOOD menu, why on earth would you focus on your Margaritas?? Why would you NOT focus on advertising how great your FOOD is? Unless your food is below average and you want people to be drawn in by your Margaritas....

Well, that's exactly what Sinaloa has done. Their food IS below average and, frankly, tasteless. Their refried beans have no flavor whatsoever. How can you ruin refried beans?!

If you want Flavorful Mexican food, drive half a mile and go to Jesus Mexican on Third  Street, and have a margarita someplace else. I don't drink, so Margaritas are no draw for me. I'm interested in food with real flavor -- so I won't ever be eating here again.

Only reason I give this place two stars is it looks like they have a cool bar and the service was OK. It's all downhill from there, the chicken is steamed as opposed to grilled and was very bland tasting. Chips were OK but my friends beer was not cold and the margarita I ordered was not good in the least. It looks like maybe it was a bar that they expanded into a restaurant which they failed at doing. Will not be back!

Good service but the food was definitely not on par with better mexican restaurants or taquerias.  We might give it another try but I'm sure there are some better taquerias around.  Their salsa was good and hot though...

My husband and I ate here, anxious to try a good Mexican restaurant.  We were greatly disappointed.  The chips weren't bad, but they had a weird sauce (it tasted like the canned red enchilada sauce) to dip the chips in.  The food was very disappointing--I had the enchiladas, my husband had the fajitas.  The price was outrageous--about $15 per person, and the portions were small.  I would have rather eaten at Taco Bell.  Don't waste your money here!

As my wife will contest, I am not a big fan of Mexican food. I scratch and scream whenever she wants Mexican food. Since we're moving to Morgan Hill next week, I figure we'd give it a try and I got to say, it was very good.

For starters, the chips and salsa were very good. The chips were nice and crispy and the salsa, although thin, was very flavorful.

I had a frozen Strawberry Margarita and it was very good.

For dinner I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas in red sauce. It's my go-to Mexican mean so I thought I'd give it a try. The meal was delicious and I quickly ate the whole dish.

We sat in the room near the bar and it was very pleasant. Our waitress was good and her assistant did a great job clearing plates and refilling water. I can easily see us going back again once we move or just hanging out at the bar and drinking Margaritas. Great job!

The salsa was really good. Smooth and spicy, just the perfect level of chunkiness.

I ordered a carnitas burrito with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole. (No beans or rice for me.) I had the green sauce on top. This was scrumptious. The meat was tender, and that green sauce was really good.

Overall, it was pretty good, just a tad pricey.

I'm not sure why this place doesn't have more stars?  Not only do I love their food, but I have many fond milestone memories here.

This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant ever!  I've been going here for 15+ years and have never had a bad meal or a bad margarita.

The chips and salsa are endless and they serve two types of salsa, one medium heat smooth one and the other a little spicy and chunky.

My favorite dish is the #6, chicken taco, cheese enchilada and a chili verde burrito.  The taco's are awesome, they make their taco shells fresh, none of that pre-made taco shell business.  The chili verde is the best I've ever had, the pork is so tender and the sauce fantastic. The rice is best ever, just so fluffy and light.  Every meal is served bubbling hot.....and I mean bubbling, don't touch the plates or you will get burned.

Sinaloa also has the best margaritas in town, in fact all you need is one, or you'll have to call a cab!

"It's like a party in my mouth and everyone's throwing up."- Phillip J Fry
Why oh why did we not listen to the Yelp reviews? Went here with some friends who really hyped it. Brought the chips out and the first batch tasted very stale. The salsa tasted like straight enchilada sauce. The second batch was better and we got a dish of chunky salsa that was a bit better. Wifey and I ordered the chile relleno and burrito combo to split (on a budget) and a corona for me and a blue margarita. The chile was bland and tough to cut. The chicken burrito was dry and flavorless. Very disappointing.
How much do you think this ran us? Combo- $18, beer- $4, margarita- $8! 18+4+8+ tax and tip= $40! Ouch!
AND the worst part was we felt sick when we got home. I'll never doubt you again yelp!

I've been coming here since before I can remember and I'm 27 now.  My parents used to go weekly when they were at their old location.  I was so young that I didn't appreciate Mexican food yet and they would pick me up a happy meal on the way.

Over the years I grew to enjoy the food as well.  My favorite is the chicken chimichanga.  (which I now order, not fried- so yes it's more like just a burrito but they put sour cream and guac on the top).  I also like the chicken nachos, chicken tacos and bean and cheese burrito.  My dads favorite was always the chili relleno.

This was the only place I wanted to be on my 21st birthday.  I had seen my parents guzzle down many a margarita from here and I had to try for myself.  GOOOD and super strong!  Two cadillacs are my absolute limit.

I do agree the food isn't quite as good as it used to be, but it still feels like home.  I think that most Morgan Hill'ers who have been going for years feel the same way.  I still drag all my friends here on my birthday.  They all say they don't like it, but everyone seems to clean their plate :)  (I guess you need something to soak up those margaritas).

Did I mention I also love the chips and salsa...didn't want to forget that.  I will never give Sinaloa a bad review and will still frequent it for my birthday.

Before I throw out the bag with the receipt, I glanced to see if the price was correct.  I do that randomly, it's just my habit.  But their prices weren't what I thought they would be (see the photo).

I understand it's a slight difference (all 3 items), and the menu says 'prices subject to change,' but I just don't deal with this kinda business practice as a customer.

One thing could tell a lot.  If my husband bought a $100 Hermes scarf instead of $150 one on plane as a sourvenir back from France,  I'd think that's how much he cared about me.

Talking about price, I've read someone saying every time he/she goes to this Mexican bakery, they charge her dfferent prices.  I still wonder what that is, also, if he/she still goes there.

Their foods were good like before, no complaint.

The service was horrendous. We waited about an hour for our food after we ordered. Our waitress was terrible. The ambiance left a lot to be desired. When I first pulled out my chair, my hand touched something sticky... Honey maybe? I have no idea but I was grossed out.

On the upside, my chimichanga was delicious. So was the rice and beans. However, avoid the fish tacos at all costs. You could taste the overused oil in the fish batter. The fish was also overfried.

Thought the chips and salsa were just okay, not the best I've ever had. Found myself eating them to pass the long wait and increasing hunger. Grr.

After we complained, the manager did give us a discount on our bill and comp the birthday dessert for my mil. Still, prices seemed a bit high for the location, menu offerings, and terrible service.

So not worth the hype!!  Went to Sinaloa last night with my husband, parents and two cousins from Germany so they could experience "real" Mexican food for the first time.  I was actually embarrassed by how bad the food was.  We had to keep telling them during the night..."this is not real Mexican food".  The salsa has NO flavor, the chips are at best from  Taco Bell and the food lacked any real flavor.  I ordered shrimp tacos and I had to hunt through to even find a shrimp and then when I did they were the smallest shrimp I have ever seen.

One good thing about this place is the drinks.  That is about it though...If you want a good drink...stop by.  If you want good Mexican food...skip it!!!!!!!!!

I grew up in Morgan Hill, where Sinaloa's is an institution. I must be honest, that my current opinion of them since they moved to their new spot is mixed.

The upside - they still know how to make a damn good margarita,  their chips and salsa are good and plentiful and I find the service to be friendly.

The downside - the new place is definitely lacking in charm and I think a lot of the food is just mediocre and very heavy and that you can definitely find better Mexican in south bay.

To sum it up, if you are looking for a good drink, it's the spot to hit, it you are craving good Mexican, you might want to look elsewhere.

I like Sinaloa a lot, but I think it can be overrated due to the stiff-ass drinks they serve you at the bar before you are seated.  If you drink, you are at least buzzed before you take your first bite, and that is just not fair!  Their enchiladas are excellent, their tacos pretty good - but their Beef Chimichanga is what keeps me going back.  The flavors of the Chimi are amazing, so simple, yet so good.

The margaritas are delicious, the bar is almost always crowded.  Friday nights are standing room only.  Saturdays aren't much better.  I like Sinaloa a lot, but I find myself wondering "Why did we come here again?" after they quote you an hour wait.... but it is probably still the best Mexican in Morgan Hill and worth trying at least once.

Put the wait aside, this is probably the best Mexican spot in the South Bay...

A friend convinced me to give Sinaloa another try.  He said that they have improved and have managed to recapture the quality of the old place.  Let me first say that our server Christian was a sweetheart. She was very happy and simply a joy to be around. She took very good care of us. We ordered a couple of margaritas, they were excellent. They have perfected the art of making margaritas.  I only wish the food was as good as the service and the drinks. Sadly my food was just not that good. I ordered a Chili Colorado burrito enchilada style, rice and beans. The burrito was bland, not flavorful at all, the beans were luke warm and tasted like lard, the rice was mushy. My wife ordered a taco, chili verde burrito combo. She did not complain, but only ate a few bites and packed it up to go.  The chips were stale and the salsa was bland.

I upgraded them a star from my previous review because the service and the drinks was excellent.

If you like the standard heavy (lard) style Mexican food then Sinaloa's is as good as any small family owned taqueria. Not much flavor and you feel like they are doing you a favor just by allowing you to eat there.

I asked  them why they did not have many deserts and they told me that they do not want people hanging around taking up a table.

It seems to be a hot spot for singles and bar goers.

I have heard about this place for YEARS so we decided to give it a try after visiting the pumpkin patch. We arrived about 12.30-1 on a Saturday afternoon, the place had 4 other tables occupied - so they seated all of us in the back, which was fine (4 adults and 4 kids) Took a while for them to come take our drink order - we got the kids water or milk and then drinks all around for the adults - 15 minutes later the drinks finally showed and they took our food order.

After waiting 40 minutes we asked if there was anyway to rush the kids food, because they were becoming pretty hungry at this point and chips only go so far!  He said our food should be up soon, he would check. Well.. I really think our order got lost or he forgot to put it in, because it was another 10 minutes to get the kid meals (2 bean/rice and tortilla plates and 2 quesadilla plates) plus another 10 minutes to get the adult plates.

The food was good, not great, but good and hearty!! So we did enjoy that as we were inhaling it (the kids were DONE)

We asked for the bill, which they brought, and we were stunned to see that they had tacked on a 20% tip for a large party - I know most restaurants do this, but 4 kids should NOT be treated as whole people - especially when we can't even get their simple orders quickly.

Anyway, the food was decent, the drinks were good (they were MUCH needed!) but the service was awful!

It makes me sad to write a less-than-positive review of Sinaloa.  I grew up on their food (and graduated to their margaritas, for a while).  I love Steve.  He is the real deal.

My parents used to stop at Sinaloa after their hard-core hikes, for a delish lunch and a marg before blissing out in recovery.  I wouldn't know the pleasures of Sinaloa if not for them.

A few summers ago, a friend called us at our vacation in the islands when the place burned down.  She knew that the restaurant was part of our family life.

They know me and my family on sight.  But  the food quality truly has gone downhill.

Post-fire, the enchilada sauce grew inconsistent, but we kept coming for the amazing shredded beef in the beef tacos.  The rice is still excellent (why the he** can't I find the recipe for such delicious rice?!).

But as the prices went up and more often than not  the ench sauce was sharp and metallic (suggesting quick-cooking instead of the days of simmering of old), rather than rich and smooth, we stayed in the valley and took our business to Tlaquepaque.

Our loyalty/optimism kept us coming back for two more years, but three weeks ago, we reached the end of the line.  The shredded beef in the tacos was tasteless.  The enchilada sauce was spicy but shallow.   Service was impersonal, and the food quality was not good enough to make up the difference.

I miss what Sinaloa *was*.  I'm sure they will survive, as there is always a market for strong margaritas and decent Mexican food, but it sure ain't what it used to be.  We won't be back.

Are you kidding me Morgan Hill?  You are so close to San Jose and Gilroy and you cannot come up with some decent places to get some good Mexican food and drinks?

We came here for lunch this past Saturday and figured we would try it out.  We were looking for another restaurant but decided that the walking was making us hungry plus we saw they served margaritas here so we went on inside.

It was pretty empty the seating at the bar was full however.  The hostess told us to wait to see if there was a table ready.  Table ready?  There were two tables full out of at least 15.  That put me off right from the get.  So we get seated 8 minutes later at the window.  Nice day, window to the street not a bad choice on their part.

We get menus and see a waitress walking towards us and couldn't wait to get a drink.  But wait she walked right past us.  Damn I am thirsty and wanted a drink.  Too long of a wait later she finally comes over and asks if she can get us something to drink.  We ordered 2 Sinaloa margaritas and someone orders a Midori margarita.  Chips and Salsa came to the table but we were still waiting on drinks.   Good thing someone else dropped off some water cups.  The chips are not good but the salsa is excellent, just enough spice and chunkiness.  The drinks arrive we order our food and take that first sip.  I think there is a mistake.  We wanted tequila in the drinks for $6,50 there better be some tequila in here.  They tasted like Triple Sec and mix.  And I am not a tequila fan so I wasn't looking for a strong drink, but damn for $6.50 there should at least be half a shot.

** I forgot to tell you the whole time we were sitting in the window seat there was this nasty fly stalking us.  It was unappetizing to say the least. **

Food comes out in seriously 4 minutes.  We ordered she went back and grabbed the plates.  It was amazing and scary at the same time.  Is all the food pre-cooked?  The rice had a decent flavor; the beans were beans, the chili verde - nothing special.  Now it's not the worst I have ever had but certainly wasn't too good either.  The enchiladas my friend had was a canned sauce and the tortilla was rubbery.  The burrito by other friend had was decent she didn't have any complaints - then again she doesn't complain like I do.  Oh yeah and the $4.50 guacamole was packaged.  YES!  FROM A BAG.  No joke its bright green and doesn't taste at all like an avocado.  We asked for that to be removed from the bill.

With the fly, the watered down drinks and the bad chips I would say that I will never go back to this place again.   I would proceed with caution if I were you.

I've been going to Sinaloa for years, so it has a warm spot in my heart. We used to stop by there just about every weekend at the old location and relax on the patio with a few margaritas while we waited for our table. Admittedly the new location is missing a lot of the charm of the old place, which burned down. It's not as warm (no pun intended) and cozy, and has unfortunately taken on a bit of a cafeteria feel.

I like that most of the same staff from the old place has made it to the new one, including that guy behind the bar.  I miss the old owner of the restaurant, who used to sit on the end of the bar and smile at everyone.  He passed away a while before the old location burned down, and rumor has it that the painting of him on the wall was the only thing that survived the fire.

Nevertheless, the food is still outstanding.  My favorite is the three item pick-it-yourself combo, with a chile colorado burrito, shredded beef taco, and chicken enchilada.  Their chile colorado is easily the best I've ever had.

Anytime I'm within a 100 miles of Sinaloa, I try like hell to work it into my schedule.  It's that good.

Food - I had the chile verde and loved it.  My wife usually gets the chicken nachos, and their always excellent.  The food isn't going to knock your socks off, but it is good.

Staff - The last few times I have gone, the staff has always been friendly and helpful.  No complaints.

Atmosphere - If you can, get yourself seated on the left-hand side of the restaurant. The right-hand side is right next to the bar, and you have to deal with more people than you should have to.

Let's face it.  Go there for the margaritas!  Get a couple "Cadillac Margaritas" and call it a night.  ;)

This is a family run authentic restaurant. It originally started as a grocery store ran by the man behind the bar. Well, his wife ended up doubling the income of the entire market. The family shut down the market and reopened as a restaurant. It was doing exceptionally well as a local favorite when an unexpected fire closed it.
A year and half later they reopened in downtown Morgan Hill. This place has yummy enchiladas and to cool down on a hot day the margaritas are refreshing.
This place attracts a lot of local traffic so it is best to get there around 7 PM. If you get there after, have patience and bring Tylenol. It is best to go for a late lunch early dinner. We always stop by after a long surf session.
