If I could give this place a higher rating that 5 stars - I would - it was OFF THE CHART GOODNESS!! We started with steamed clams - and almost licked the bowl, then had a yummy Spinach and Portobello Pizza! Â Not a slice left (yes, we took some home and had a snack later). Divine! We loved the place so much - we came back for dinner the next night and had Shrimp Capelli and the Italian (sausage, garlic and mushrooms and pasta). Both were really good but the Shrimp Capelli is something I would come back and order again.
Cute little bar upstairs in Port Townsend, and two outdoor balconies with tables overlooking the water - great for couples and small parties. LOVE the service and ambiance.
This place is a hidden gem along the waterfront. Â My wife and I found the lower deck after finding the upper deck very crowded. Â The move to the lower deck was the best find of the evening. Â The deck has its own staff, bar, and restroom. Â There is no reason to move from this spot. Â The beer and drink selection was outstanding and the food was terrific. Â We will be back for more on our next trip to PT.
Review Source:my husband and i popped in here for a quick bite. it was anything but quick.
the service was horrible - the worst i've had in a very long time. we walked up to the bar, and they have a sign about if you place your order at the bar, you will get faster service. this was a huge red flag, and i wanted to turn around and leave, but my husband wanted to stay, so i thought, ok let's just eat at the bar, and not have to deal with the speed of service depending on where you're sitting.
the waitress came up to us and told us to grab a seat, and she would take our order at the table. well, since she asked.. we sat outside. on their menus, they do  not list what beers they have on tap, so we had to ask. the waitress seemed annoyed that we asked, and VERY QUICKLY rattled off about 15 different types of beer. verbatim: "we have an ipa, another ipa and some kind of cider, i don't remember".
what the...............
we both ordered an ipa. FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER, still no beer.
we've been there for almost 30 minutes, we have no water, no beer, and we still haven't placed our order. i am getting pretty pissed off.
she finally brings the beer, and takes our order. i went with the bacon wrapped poppers, and my husband had a sandwich. the food comes out, and it is mediocre at best. the fries were rock hard, and it just gave an overall appearance of sitting under a heat lamp all day.
i finished my food, but my husband was still working on his. a different waitress came by and picked up my empty plate, and also took my husbands plate, with food still on it, that he was still eating!
unbelievable.
so we decided that it is time for us to go. my husband pulls out his credit card (we have not received our check mind you) and out of nowhere, the waitress walked up behind him, took his card, and said "i'll run this for you."
he followed her inside and asked to see the check before she ran the card.
we paid, we left, and we will never be back.
This is a nice place...probably better at night. Â We just ate here for lunch and we sat out on the deck. Â The view is amazing for sure. Â Service was a little slow, there was only one server on and the deck was PACKED full. Â But she was very nice and the food was pretty good and fairly priced.
Review Source:I feel mixed about Sirens. Great atmosphere, good enough pub food, nice back deck. The bartenders and servers are ALWAYS grumpy. No smiles, short, sometimes even rude. Please Siren's don't make me dislike you because of your burned out employees. Learn some hospitality. Ordering at one place at the bar is a weird idea. There is a reason you don't see that system anyplace else. It does not work. Sigh... Maybe they will work it out and become one of my favorite bars again.
Review Source:What a great bar! We came on a nice, sunny day and got to sit outside on the patio overlooking the water. The view was amazing. We ordered a couple of drinks. My husband got a bloody mary and I got a mimosa. We got the buffalo chicken skewers and oyster shooters (plain, without the vodka). The skewers, though it was chicken breasts, they were moist and tender and pretty tasty. Hubby liked them a lot. The oyster shooters were ocean-y. Lol, duh, right. It was my second time eating oyster shooters and I do prefer them cooked, but they were good. :) Great service!
I'd definitely come back the next time we visit to sit on the patio on a nice, sunny day.
This place was downright awful. The pseudo-reggae music did not fit the vibe of the place at all, the gal was very snotty when we asked questions about the menu, everything was overpriced, the regular hamburger was extremely plain tasting (and having TWO long hairs in it didn't help, the potato wedge fries were burnt to a crisp, the beer was mostly flat, and there were (get this) SUGAR ANTS ALL OVER THE WINDOW SILL AND TABLE. Seriously, little black ants crawling over the place. We ate because we were in a time crunch, but I would never recommend this place. Health Inspector needs a visit.
Review Source:Visited recently for lunch while in town. The dining room is cozy and warm on a blustery spring day, there are board games and cards to while away the time in front of the fireplace, pool table, and many large windows offering water views. Drinks; I had a perfectly prepared dirty vodka martini and my date a blue fruity number, the martini menu had a few interesting options. Food; WOW!!! This is where I literally had my socks knocked off, steamed clams nestled in a thai-inspired broth, full of garlic, shallots, and fresh herb-y flavor and served with plenty of toasted bread. My date ordered shrimp capellini, which also nodded to Asian flavors with coconut milk, Â and plenty of fresh basil. All-in-all, an extremely pleasant dining experience and one I am looking forward to revisiting.
Review Source:This place was an awesome surprise that exceeded our expectations. Very lively and fun pub that has the best pub menu I've seen in a while. We also were torn over the great selection of local beers. Sirens is nicely decorated which contributes to the eclectic ambiance--the decor includes -bookshelves filled with interesting reads, games, fun paintings on the walls, nice light fixtures, a nice bar and pool table. My companion and I both ordered the club sandwich--perfectly cooked chicken, bacon, tomatoes and lettuce on a fresh cibatta roll baked locally. The sandwiches came with some seasoned potatoes that were crispy and delicious but didn't seem heavy and fried. We both also had the African Amber beer and really enjoyed it! The prices were reasonable and our waitress (as well as the other wait and bar staff) were very friendly and provided quick, seamless service. When we return to Port Townsend we are definitely visiting the Sirens Pub again.
Review Source:ABFAB! Â My favorite place when visiting Port Townsend! Â Eclectic to say the least! Â Fun and interesting menu that has yet to disappoint. Â Service on the patio overlooking the sound can be spotty, but it's well worth it when the weather is good! Â Lots of local handcrafted brews and a well stocked bar are also pluses!
Review Source:This place is hard to rate because it depends on WHAT one is rating:
Either a) the night out drinking place to have fun and party (GREAT) or b) the brunch/lunch(/dinner) place to eat (BEYOND miserable!!! AWFUL service!). I will split it up:
To go out drinking and having fun at (weekend) nights this place is AWESOME and clearly get 5 stars. People are great, staff is AWESOME and friendly, alcohol prices are ok, GREAT outdoor patio for more socializing, pool table, good music selection and friendly locals that are having a great time having a great time with you. It was so much fun. We sailed there and ended up at Sirens completely by coincidence and went back there both other nights!
HOWEVER:
To go for brunch or lunch this place clearly sucks - and that is not because the food would not be good... The food is ok, pricing as well, the patio mentioned above is even greater during the day and when it is good weather, sitting outside overlooking the water and eating while enjoying a GREAT Bloody Mary is really hard to beat - if there was not that already repeatedly discussed issue with the staff!
Holy Cow - do the owners ever read this here? Especially the (male) waiter, bigger guy, tall and strong type, is RUDE and gives a CRAP about his patrons unless they are some hot chicks that are drinking. Sincerely, this guy needs to be let go!
After having been there the third day we may have expected too much but clearly thought that after WAY over 30mins of waiting, then winking and signaling we might deserve some attention. After 45 minute he finally bothered to take our order, not without letting us feel how much he resented us for ruining his lazy Sunday morning.. After over another 45 minutes of waiting finally the food arrived and was smacked onto our table. After we ate we had to wait another 30 minutes to get our f***ing check!
NEVER AGAIN will we go back there to eat or waste our day time!
However, at nights this is the place to go and to just go get drinks we will go back. Fortunately, Mr. Grumpy does not seem to be there a lot at nights.
I love going to Sirens. It's a great fixture in Port Townsend with a local feel and plenty of space to hang out. They have an excellent selection of drafts and their drinks are tasty.
I think their prices are a tad high for the area but that's ok.
They also have great food!
They have live music sometimes and that can be fun. I've paid $5 cover to get in before.
You can play pool in the side room and it's free. This is a meeting place for the locals and for people coming back to town to visit. I'm from the area and I always see someone I know when I'm in here.
Q: What's a million dollar view worth if you have only one jackhole server?
A: $0.
We were in a great mood; we had a sunny spot on the patio, clear summer day, miles of open water and island views, but we had to leave. After being actively ignored by the passive/aggressive waiter for 35min, even after we made eye contact and friendly gestures that we were ready to order. He was too busy aggressively flirting with a couple girls to be bothered by us or other customers that were trying to get their bill.
FYI- being nasty does not a classy restaurant make. Remember tips?
During the off-season, when night falls quickly on Port Townsend at which time the streets of the downtown, while not exactly deserted no longer team with the summertime festival-goers and fun-seekers, one can still find the door under the Sirens sign, navigate oneself up the stairs and down the hallways.. and enter this establishment for a reasonable meal, drinks, and a nice, lively, friendly mingle with the regulars..
If you do this on a *Thursday* night... you get.. *karAOKE!!* If you are one of those karaoke types.. who in new environments seeks out local karaoke venues as a way both of indulging in your vice and communing with others of your kind.. Well, this is the place to do it in Port Townsend.. A friendlier, more supportive, more energetic, more with-it, more fun crowd (of the karaoke sort) one could not ask for. It's cross-generational. From aging Boomers.. like me.. to kids young enough to be our children.. or even maybe .. our grandchildren!!
Anyway, I hit this place our first night in town.. and throughout the next week as I wandered through the shops and stores was greeted by townsfolk I met *there* Â that first night. Just to give you an idea of the cross-section of people that go there.
Sirens is located in a old cool building up stairs and has a good bar and a nice view over the water. Has a good menu variety of so so food and tasty drinks.
Note: The waitstaff clearly hates tourists, or anyone 'not local' and we got it! Geez! Â Also, like some others mentioned we waited 20 mins before we left after the waiter spoke to serve everyone except us.
Ah, such a shame as the Bloody Mary's and outside patio are 'oh so nice' when the weather is right. Should really thank him though, as we discovered the Public House after that (total delish) and didn't look back!
This is a great place. Amazing view, laid back atmosphere. Good beer on tap, and and all the food I tried was good. We went two or three times over Labor Day weekend. They clearly did not staff for how busy the place is on a weekend. The place was packed, and it took a loooong time to get food or drinks; that is the only reason I didn't give it five stars!
And I think the reviews about the long dark hallway must have come before some renovation. I didn't see anything like that at all.
Great deck, bad everything else. Don't let the food reviews fool you. If you like Applepbees quality food, this is your place. I just paid 60$ for a few beers (good) 2 mixed fruit drinks (awful using processed juices when fresh fruits are in season locally) and a shepherds pie that was equal to a frozen one, and an over cooked burger (they don't ask for temperature/color/doneness) with a hard crunchy tomato, doughy "bun" and rubbery fries. Service was awful. Not going back. I normally trust yelp reviews but not here. Â Put it this way, I created a Yelp profile to write this review.
Review Source:Once you make it up the long flight of stairs, around two corners and to the end of a dingy hallway, you'll find a fine place for pub food. Â Along with two business associates, we ate dinner here several times during a week long work trip. Â Between us, we had the Pub Burger, Black Bean Burger, Greek Pizza, Pan Fried Oysters, several different fries, and probably a little too much beer.
Struck it rich with the weather. Â Although, it is on the shady side of the sundown, so even the warmest blooded folk should bring a light jacket or something if deck dining is desired. Â Which it should be. Â You can sit in a bar anywhere. Â This is the only waterfront BAR (as opposed to ice cream shop, over-rated old person restaurant, and overpriced seafood restaurant). Â So you ought to enjoy it if the weather allows.
While the approach through the stairway and hallway is lifeless, once inside sirens, you'll arrive to a place with soul. Â Cool bar, unpretentious atmosphere, pool table, booths, bands, karoke (thursdays), locals, tourists, and staff wearing T-shirts. Â
Service: Â the service itself is good. Â the staff was cool. Â But i personally felt the place was understaffed. Â Food consistently took too long from order to service. Â Like - unusually long for burgers, fried stuff, and pizza. Â But the atmosphere made up for it.
Burgers - reports on the Pub Burger were fantastic - a pretzel-based bun. Â interesting. Â Do yourself a favor and get the Greek Pizza. Â Pan fried oysters on the appetizer menu were more than enough for a meal. Â Black Bean Burger had a little zip to it. Â Nice fresh bun. Â fries were non-descirpt, and i kind of asked myself why i kept eating them (because they were there, i suppose).
My praise for the deck does come with one tip. Â Sit under one of the umbrellas - sun up or sun down. Â The umbrellas are there to protect you from the seagull's inevitable butt blasts, not the sun nor the rain.
Right on Water Street, but most tourists miss it because it's up two flights of stairs on the backside of the building. Â Their deck has a great view of the harbor, and the inside is quaint and rustic. Â Good Bloody Marys... I think they have live music occasionally as well! Â They get busy on the weekends and during festivals, so don't be afraid to order at the bar.
Review Source:Man, this place has such a nice back patio. Â Great for enjoying the summer and drinking a beer. Â If you happen to order some nachos on the other hand, your experience might take a turn for the worst.
Me and my partner waited over an hour for nachos, checked in with the server twice, no one seemed to follow up on the ticket, care that they were missing, or try to hurry the order along. Â We closed our tab (nothing was comp'ed and the server was a total B about it, even though I was trying to be understanding, and am a server myself).
The shitty thing is, I might go back, at least for a drink....just don't go hungry!!!
I try to go to Sirens once or twice a year and remind myself why I love/hate this place. Â This is a great bar and a horrible restaurant. Â Bar quality - excellent if you sit at the bar. Â Great beers on tap and a classic PT vibe. Â Food quality - good bar food. Â Nothing special, but I'll eat here again. Â Service quality - if you're sitting anywhere outside of a five foot radius of the bartender service is pretty much non-existant. Â Why do I keep doing this to myself.... I know I sound bipolar in this review but I love/hate this place so much. Â The views from the deck are stunning the drinks are great, but the food and service make me want to go taxi driver on someone.
Review Source:The weather outside was iffy, but this was a cozy place to wait out the rain. The bar is casual, just far enough on this side of scruffy to be unpretentious. We found a booth by the window in the back room and a game of Jenga with just enough pieces to make it worth playing.
I liked the sense of history in this bar - the tables have business cards and messages crammed under them and the Jenga blocks had been thoroughly vandalized on all sides with down'n'dirty thoughts that occur when you play Jenga and get drunk. I couldn't help but compare it with the hipster bar back home with its "boardgame menu" and actual lineups to get in ... Sirens seems so much more down to earth even though its on the second floor. And has a really nice view of the waterfront.
As some have mentioned, it's a dive, but a tourist friendly dive. And this tourist had a memorable afternoon in Port Townsend with your Happy Hour beers and oyster shooters. I hope to visit again someday!
Visited Sirens for lunch on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. Â The weather wasn't particuarly nice, so no outdoor seating was available. Â I will simply say that I concur with many of the other reviewers:
-- Somewhat unfriendly service (it was not "packed", I'd say it was "moderately busy")
-- Food was ok
It looks like this might be just the right place to go for a beer, play some pool or board games, and just hang out without the need to be served.
I liked it. Â It's not a 5 star establishment, but I had a good cup of Beef Barley soup and they've got a pretty good draft/bottle selection. Â
As always, the craft beers are on the pricey side, but if you're looking to drink cheap they've got $2 Oly cans (always a welcome sight). Â
One thing that won't matter to some people but will probably help others... This is a good place to disappear in if you're traveling alone and you're on the self-conscious side like I am... Â They've got a huge back room that looks a little bit like the inside of an Ivy League frat house, but it's got tons of tables with outlets if you're looking to get some work done on the lappy.
Disappointing late-lunch experience at Sirens....it was post lunch rush, and not terribly busy for a Saturday afternoon. Â There was no greeting upon standing at the door for several minutes, even though the male waiter was right in front of us. Â We found an empty table and sat down. Â We ordered apps, lunch and a couple beers. Â Beers arrived and then we waited OVER AN HOUR to be served our appetizer AND lunch at the SAME TIME. Â Ridiculous. Â Our beers were long gone and we had watched other patrons be served their lunch even though we had arrived & ordered 20 minutes before them. Â We even mentioned to the [same male] waiter that we had been waiting for our appetizer for a long time.
As far as we could tell, there were only 2 waiters working that afternoon, one male, one female. Â The lady was really nice, but unfortunately, not our waiter. Â The male waiter (kind of tall, lighter hair, middle aged) was rude, dismissive, and should not work in the customer service industry. Â Upon bringing our app and lunch together, we explained that this was not what we had in mind when we ordered an appetizer (appetizer should be brought BEFORE the main course, duh!) and he said, "what do you want me to do about it, pay for your lunch?" and turned and walked away. Â And of course, he left us without silverware! Â
ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE. Â The food was good, the atmosphere was fun, but we will not be going back. Â There are many restaurants with good views and with much better service than Sirens.
After having lunch out on the deck with my fiance and being appalled by the horrible service, less-than-appealing food (overcooked burger with cold, stale potato fries) and unnecessarily long wait, I jumped onto Yelp and am entertained by how many recent reviews echo our visit; surly service, extended waits, and it being a gathering place for retirees.
I strongly recommend that if you visit, do so to DRINK and drink only (and copiously)!
And in response to one yelper's comment about how maybe sitting outside would improve the experience, NOPE it doesn't! The view was not anything that can't be gotten from a few other (better) restaurants up and down the block.
This place should be called Surlys as the "Sirens" behind the bar here are more than a tad surly. Â They're not really into friendly service here, and if you get there 10 minutes before the kitchen closes then you're too late because, oops! looks like the kitchen just closed.
If you do get food there be prepared to wait a while. How long should pre-made clam chowder take to get? Roughly 25 minutes if you ask them. Chicken skewers also should not take an additional 10 minutes to come out. Â The real issue is that this is the only place that seems to tolerate the sub 65 age bracket in PT, so you don't have a lot of choices. Just be prepared for the service and make sure you drink a lot.
This pub seductively appeals to my maritime propensity.
Sirens lives on the upper floor of a historic building looking out onto Port Townsend Bay. Â At one time, PT Bay was filled with tall ships at anchor, bustling trade, and eager mariners spilling into town. Â Somehow, Sirens is able to weave that century old flavor into its atmosphere.
This "Pub of Distinction" gives many impressions: sultry but sophisticated, simple but eclectic, and delicious without question. Â The crimson walls and soft lighting invite you to relax. Â The walls are filled with nautical paintings and pictures, a perfect reflection of it's location.
On tap, the pub has a good variety of brews (including Port Townsend Brewing Co.) and the food is worth coming back for. Â My girlfriend and I love the black bean/portebello burgers. Â And despite what one of the other reviewers said, I love Sirens potato wedges!
The icing on the cake is the outdoor viewing deck. Â In the summer, it is easy to spend the entire evening chatting and drinking under the waning sun. Â
I believe Siren's is the best location to drink and eat in all of Port Townsend.
Sirens was overall a pretty mediocre experience. Â I had just gotten into town from an 11 mile hike, so maybe my mood and energy level were less than stellar to begin with, but my desire for a satisfying meal was not fulfilled. Â I arrived, ordered a beer (they have a good beer list and some from the local PT brewery) and food from the bar, as this place doesn't have regular table service. Â Normally I have no problem with that, but it took nearly an hour for the food to arrive - just a simple hamburger and potato wedges. Â Fortunately they had a live band playing and a pool table (albeit with cues missing the tips), and the furniture is comfy and eclectic. Â The burger was pretty tasty, but the potato wedges were hard and gross. Â
Sirens' food is generally less expensive than everywhere else on Water Street, but I would fork over a few more bucks and go elsewhere.
My wife and I decided to have a quick bite and a drink for lunch after spending the day in the sun visiting Port Townsend. Â We'd heard of Sirens and decided it was worth a try. Â The restaurant is upstairs and has an outside area overlooking the harbor. Â We were lucky enough to find a spot out there so we could further enjoy the rare sunshine. Â Up until now everything seemed fine. Â After about five minutes a waitress stopped by to see if wanted a drink or a menu. Â I'm pretty patient and attributed the delay in service to the crowd of folks enjoying the sun like we were. Â So, after an additional fifteen minutes, we received our menus. Â I started to notice that everyone around us seemed to know each other and the staff. Â That in itself isn't a big deal, but when the service spends all their time catering to the locals, visitors like us get left out. Â
The food was average at best. Â I had the Jamaican Jerk Burger and my wife had the Cobb Salad. Â Both were fine, but not great. Â They have a fair selection of beers...one to cover each of the main categories. Â I tried the IPA, which I enjoyed. Â
All-in-all, I wouldn't recommend this place. Â There are lots of other places in Port Townsend with better service and food...look for those places.
The food was GREAT - the prices were GOOD - the service was BAD.
Here's how Sirens works: You order at the bar (drinks and dinner) and someone brings you the food. But that person who brings food will not look you in the eye and ignores you if you attempt to get her attention unless she's actively bringing your food or engaging you.
The food, again, is great but the attitude is un-necessary.
Nice and not obvious. Probably most tourists won't find it. You kind have to look for the doorway that leads you up a staircase, through a hallway to the deck hanging over the water. What a view! During the wooden ship festival, you can see everything.
Also, we sat next to another biker who had lived in the vicinity for 20 years. He added some color to the place and provided us with a little history over drinks. Drinks were good and pretty cheap. There were some boat builders double-fisted drinking Olympia beer from cans that provided ample entertainment.
We got some steak nachos too, which were not bad... that's the only reason they don't get the 5th star. More and better steak would have helped, but they did use a couple kinds of cheese instead of cheddar or nuclear cheese.
Our waitress was really friendly and never seemed hurried even though she was obviously overworked.
I'd be surprised if there were a better bar in Port Townsend.
