Brenda Ravenscraft (of Bren's Place fame in downtown Columbia and later on Nifong Boulevard) brings her flair for wonderful home cooking and outstanding desserts to the Skyline Cafe, located at the Columbia airport. This is one of Boone County's hidden treasures for dining.
I haven't been there for breakfast but enjoy going to Skyline for lunch. In particular, try the hand-breaded pork tenderloin sandwich -- a big piece of meat -- and the homemade French fries -- from fresh potatoes, not frozen. She offers daily specials as well as some savory soups (the black bean soup on a recent day was amazing!).
Skyline always has a good selection of pies and other desserts. On a recent day the offerings included blackberry pie, cherry crunch pie and coconut cream pie, and sometimes Bren has delicious strawberry rhubarb or banana cream pies available.
It's definitely worth the drive from Columbia if you can squeeze in a little bit longer lunch on a weekday, or just right up the road from Ashland for those who get tired of the same limited number of restaurants there.
