At the risk of angering a lot of NKY / Cincy folk, I have to admit that I'm not a fan of Skyline. Â I much prefer Goldstar. Â But my husband prefers Skyline, so we go there when we visit my extended family.
I grew up with Cincinnati-style 5-ways, usually made with turkey chili or vegetarian chili. Â It's definitely something that I love. Â But I love it when it doesn't have red meat in it.
My husband is a meat-and-potatoes type--a true Texan. Â He had never had Cincinnati chili until his first trip to my grandparents. Â We took him to both Goldstar, which has a vegetarian option, and Skyline. Â He liked them both, but preferred Skyline.
For meat-eaters, Skyline is great. Â They offer all sorts of meat chili dishes, from 5-ways to chili cheese coneys. Â And with the addition of habenero cheese, these can be made super spicy for those who like food with a kick.
For those of us who prefer vegetables to meat, the only options are a mediocre salad and a baked potato--drowned in margarine and cheese unless you remember to ask for toppings on the side. Â If Skyline had a vegetarian chili, I would give them a higher rating.
Ok, I'm heading home from a long day at work, too tired to stop for dinner. Â I have Angel Hair, Ragu, and hamburger at home. Â All I need is cheese to make a great meal. Â I wondered if Skyline would sell just cheese in the drive thru. Â Habanero Cheese for my guy. Â YES THEY DO - WOOHOO. Â The cashier was so nice and I drove away happy.
