My family stopped off in Warsaw on our way to Wrightsville Beach for a day trip, just to gas up and grab some lunch. We stopped at Subway, as we don't always like to go for fast food, and my husband noticed Smithfield's on our way out, and said it looked like they had a good family meal and that we might want to keep it in mind for dinner on our way back to the Raleigh area later on.
We did stop by, and boy, are we glad we did. The staff there is amazingly friendly, they bent over backwards to help us figure out the menu and what was the right choice for our family (we are recently relocated from CA and this was a whole new kind of restaurant for us)... My kids had never had hush puppies before, and they immediately presented us with samples, exclaiming something to the effect that they had to try them ASAP.
We went with the 12 (or maybe 16?) piece meal with a side of pulled pork, hush puppies, cole slaw and a gallon of sweet tea. They brought out balloons and graham crackers for the kids and insisted on refilling our gallon of sweet tea before we left, so for about $30 our family not only ate a really filling meal, but we had leftovers for the next couple of days, easy. (I also developed a bit of a sweet tea habit over the next few days, ha ha.)
We're definitely stopping by again!
Edit to add: a reviewer below complains that there is no "bbq" in the barbeque. Well, it's CAROLINA barbeque, which means it's a classic vinegar-based dressing, which they did PERFECTLY. I grew up going to pig pickings and know real Carolina BBQ. This is the real deal, and they have bottles of extra for you to add to your liking. If they'd had ketchupy sauce on it, I'd have been ticked, like any true Southerner would react to such things. ;)
While traveling in NC, we discovered Smithfield's for our last BBQ stop. Â Friendly service at the counter; the lunch special of BBQ sandwich with fries and a drink for $6.49 was a good deal. Â We enjoyed our lunch, but would have liked some regular style sauce. Â The stuff on the table is vinegar with loads of red pepper flakes on the bottom; not my fave. Â Tea was refilled and table cleared by nice employees. Â Try it!
