We stopped here for lunch on Friday after setting up camp at Double Lake Recreation Area. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich, which she said was okay, not great. I had the chopped beef sandwich, mine was a bit dry and lacked the smoky flavor I expect from Texas barbecue. Both sandwiches are served with pickles, cole slaw, and jalapeños and both come with french fries. The decor could use some attention, it's a bit cluttered, but there are some cool nostalgic items. Barbecue needs more smoke and moisture. Fries are crinkle cut frozen. Maybe next time I'll try another dish, the waitress said the BBQ chicken is really good.

The restaurant is under new ownership and the menu has expanded.
Rick and Terri run the biz and toil in the kitchen to bring freshly cooked meals.
This is the kind of place to visit with friends and have something good to eat.
The atmosphere is pleasant and has the rustic feel of being in "the country".
Lunchtime can be a bit crazy when everyone shows up all at once.
If you want to get an idea of what the local culture and people are like, then this is the place to be.
BBQ king, but other items like spaghetti, chili dogs, oriental rice, and deviled eggs are winners!
    Prices are VERY reasonable.
    Waitstaff are friendly and helpful.

When on 2025 right across from the entrance to Double Lake, it's really hard not to notice the Smokin' Gun, as the BBQ Pit itself is a giant smoking gun, oh about maybe 30 feet long.   Big 'ol huge thing.   It's an actual functional BBQ pit where they smoke some finely done meats.

We've eaten here a dozen times at least, and we were even invited to a "free" lunch to celebrate a remodel of the small eatery which is a trailer converted to an attractive restaurant.  Shirley (the owner) is quite nice, likes to talk and when there you feel like you are eating at her home.   In fact at this free lunch (to be polite we left a tip about equal to what the meal would have really cost), I even met an online food critic from Houston.   She gave me her business card (which I have since lost) and I even took a picture with her, and the funny thing is, I could swear remembering she said she was from Yelp.Com...  In fact I think that was the first time I ever heard about Yelp...

How's the food?   We've always been pleased.  The brisket and sausage is perfect, the pickles make for a nice sandwich with the bread provided with your plate.   The potato salad has never been remarkable to me, but when at a BBQ place, I'm there for the meat anyway!  :)     Nice fun place to stop, quite reasonably priced and you'll probably like most people, want to take your picture there with the giant pistol pit.

I don't think they serve alcohol but I seriously doubt anyone would complain if you brought a beer in with you.

    Thumbs up!
