We decided to stop at Snake River for dinner, I was looking for a good steak and my wife for some local trout. Â
Service was good, restaurant decor was old and tired. Â I ordered a filet mignon and my wife rainbow trout. Â Filet was tough and chewy, probably the worst filet I have ever had. Â I tried my wife's trout, it was bland. Â We won't ever eat there again.
This place is expensive and simply not worth the money. Â I would pass if I were you, spend your hard earned money somewhere else.
This place was everything I wanted for my last meal before leaving Colorado. Â The wood paneling gave it a ski lodge-y feeling.
The food was second only to the Keystone Lodge Bar and Bighorn Streakhouse (two different entities)- I suggest you hit these places if you are in Keystone. Â Back to The Snake (as is it called by the locals): Â they serve fresh honeywheat bread with tastey butter prior to the meal, have a more than suffficient selection of beer and wine, and the food is exceptional. Â
I had the seafood special. Â Our shittle driver commented on how he will rarely eat seafood in CO, but The Snake is one of the exceptions. Â The mushroom appetizer is a must order. Â The salmon was good. Â The steak was exceptional. Â The Chicken Picatta was delcious. Â (Yes, I tasted everyones food!)
All in all, I would hit this place if you are in Keystone for more than one night. Â Night one being the Keystone Lodge Steakhouse [Bighorn].
The best word for the Snake River Saloon is "average". The food was average, the service was average, and the atmosphere was average. The shining star was the Brie appetizer and the homemade raspberry vinaigrette. It wouldn't be a bad thing to give this restaurant a try, but there are better places in Keystone.
Review Source:This is my first time back in Keystone in a few years and so I was excited to find this place that the locals recommend walking distance from my condo. Â I walked over with my wife and kid for an early dinner. Â We had a drink in the saloon, which was reasonably priced for a Summit County happy hour ($3 for an Avalanche) and then followed with dinner in the restaurant.
The service in the restaurant was top notch. Â My kid was a bit cranky and they immediately brought him a plate with some crackers, orange and pineapple slices, and a maraschino cherry. Â They also brought out some fresh bread with honey butter. Â This proved to be the highlight of the meal.
I ordered the special, an 8 oz Mahi Mahi filet served on rice pilaf with pesto on top. Â The fish was under-seasoned to the point of criminality and even the pesto lacked flavor. Â I ended up adding salt and pepper to make it edible. Â The rice pilaf was okay but it was on top of a huge piece of lettuce, which made it nearly impossible to scoop up. Â There was a second piece of kale garnish off on the side, the presentation was quite Red Lobster. Â This was not worth $26.
My wife had the fettuccine Alfredo which average as she describes it, nothing special or memorable, but not terrible. Â She also got a side salad, which despite being billed as mixed greens was more like 90% iceberg lettuce. Â Her meal was not worth $23, even in Summit County.
My kid's meal was actually good. Â Fried shrimp and french fries. Â The fries were good and my wife and I ended up helping our kid finish them when we gave up on our meals. Â There 6 or 7 shrimp and fries, for $16. Â The food was good, but it was a bit pricey.
The way the presentation of the food, the dishes, and the decor was in this place, it reminded me of a place that peaked in the 1980s and was waiting for Gordon Ramsey to come redo it. Â
tl;dr Excellent and attentive service, mediocre to average food, high prices.
We visit Keystone often and this is a great place with a local feeling. We have always had kids with us of varying ages and prefer the bar area and not the white table cloths when visiting. Â The bar food is great, especially the Pizza, the price is reasonable and the service is great because you are in eye contact with the bartenders whenever you need something.
Don't spend your money on a $15 pizza in the Keystone grocery store....they will bring you a hot pizza with a cold beer for the same price!
This restaurant was a recommendation from one of the locals. Â We frequently ski in Keystone and so far we've never really been in a restaurant that we did not like. Snake River Saloon has been very impressive. It is a fairly small place and you would never guess that they have a wonderful menu. My husband took me on a date here and it was a wonderful place. The decor was outdated but who cares. We weren't there for the chairs or walls. We were there for the food. We got the escargot and the Filet Oscar. We did not have enough room for dessert but the Escargot and Filet Oscar was fantastic. the charm of this place is not the fact that it looks like a fine dinning restaurant with all the jazz but the unexpected stuff that comes out of the kitchen. This is not a place for ski groups or large groups of people due to their space but this is a good place to take a date or have a family dinner after a long day of skiing. I now keep on comparing every Filet Oscar I eat with Snake River Saloon's recipe. I'm a big fan and will keep on coming back.
Review Source:I was visting Dillon for the weekend that just passed and was looking to find the happening place to have some drinks! This place was jamming, not to mention they had a live band that was playing. It was just a good atmosphere and everyone was having a good time! The band "Peace Officer" was playing and they were great! It was suprising how busy it was considering they had Oktoberfests in both Breck and Vail that same weekend. Â Vey chill bar with a great, fun atmosphere! The bartenders were great, very friendly and fast! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun, small bar scene... Â Thanks Snake River for a great experience!
Review Source:I have eaten here a number of times on trips to Keystone for skiing or summer activities. Â The food is generally very good, but this review is about the horrible split check policy. Â Also, the dining area is relatively small and cannot take really large groups. Â On this last visit I asked for a table of 17, they said ok. Â When we arrived it turned into a table of 10 and one of 7. Â
Now the problem. Â The groups in this 17 included 3 groups of 4 and one of 5, but we split so the table of 10 was groups of 2, 3, and 4. The other table was groups of 1, 3 and 3 (and one infant). Â So we asked for separate checks. Â No can do is the reply. Â If it wasn't busy, maybe. Â OK, we stayed anyway. Â There were 2 different waitresses so we also couldn't do the 2 people on our table with their 3 kids on the other with one check. Â
Here's the interesting part: Â when the waitress writes the orders on her order sheet, that sheet becomes the actual bill (low tech but it works). Â The bar bill is on the back, all added up and then given to the table. Â What is preventing her from writing the first 2 orders on one sheet, flip to the next sheet, take the order for the next group of 4 on that sheet, flip to a third sheet, take the order for 3 on that, and bingo, have 3 checks? Â Nothing I could think of. Â I guess we should have broken the 3 tables into the 3 groups, make believe we are 3 different groups and then move the tables back when the food arrives.
Why not just take the number of people at the table and divide equally? Â In our case the group of 2 ordered expensive meals. Â Our group of 4 ordered cheaper meals. Â My group would have paid $25 more than if we divided it by what we actually ordered. Â And the group of 2 would have come out saving $20. Â Not fair. Â
The manager said that's the policy, but it could try to help.  What's that mean, I ask.  Well, if you call and tell us you are coming we can see if we could do a split check if not busy.  But what if it gets busy? I ask.  Well, we can't split.  So you don't really know if you  can do split or not.  We can try to help if you call and talk to us.  I suppose I could ask for a medium rare and maybe if the kitchen is busy it may come out well done, but too bad and we can try. Â
So we broke out the iphone calculator and added up the total for each group, added tax then added the 18% tip and we had the answer. What a pain.
So here's the bottom line with groups: Â if it's just a few people then splitting the bill or just dividing equally could work for you. Â If the group is larger and you want to make sure everyone pays their fare share (or some people will order 2 bottles of wine and the most expensive steak knowing someone else will subsidize their meal), then you may want to try somewhere else. Â I don't plan on going back anytime soon
The Snake River Saloon is a nice evening diversion after a day of skiing. It offers a little bit of everything. On one side of the venue is a large rectangular bar surrounded by a variety of table games and additional seating. Decent drinks are coupled with a bar menu that offers up a mix of generally unhealthy options. On weekends, live music is featured after 9:30. On the other side of the venue is a traditional sit down restaurant with a large open dining area. Steak, fish and chicken options dominate the menu. The food and service are both good but not spectaculiar. Overall, a nice one spot stop.
Review Source:Nice restaurant right of off US 6 near the Keystone ski village. If you are staying in village at the base of Keystone, there is a bus running every 15-30 minutes that will take you the restaurant.
Great place to grab a bite after a long day skiing. We sat at the bar and ordered pizza, ribs and drinks. Everything was good.
There is more upscale dining area attached to the bar. We looked at the menu and it looked pretty good too.
After living in Miami for a year, I am always happy to find cheap drinks! But, a strong cocktail makes me even happier. In the saloon, there's a fireplace, live music, & pool? Why do I ever have to leave?
This place gets hopping after a day on the mountain, but since i can't make it a full day on the mountain, we just watched everyone pour in. Many folks come to the saloon for drinks while waiting on a table at the restaurant. So come early or be prepared to have some drinks while you wait. We made the mistake of not putting our name in early and had to wait an hour, but we had our cocktails to keep us company.
This fantastic restaurant and bar is located on US 6 in Keystone, across from The Enclave condominiums (not at A-Basin).
As a former Keystone resident and barfly extraordinaire, I can say without question that this small, hidden gem is truly 'as good as it gets.' Â The staff and owners of Summit County's finest saloon and restaurant are an incredible testament to what the high life can truly conjure from the soul, between the Rockies and a hard place. Â Life isn't easy at nine-thousand feet, but it sure is worth every bit of toil. Â At the end of any day, winter or summer, working or playing, The Snake will charm you with it's real ski-town personality.
I will forever be a lifelong fan, remembering good nights and great nights of drinking, dancing, and general merriment. Â If you're lucky to catch the elusive spirits of the mountain gods on your way through paradise, you'll find everything you need in this one place. Â Though small, its heart is big enough for everyone.
Be sure to check out the live music on Fridays and Saturdays, not to mention the special treat on Sunday night's bluesy cool-down.
All that, and I haven't even mentioned the food yet! Â Eat before 9:30 and you'll have a warm, cozy, and even romantic setting for dinner. Â Later, you can get cover-free access to the night's jams. Â You'll pay upwards of $50/plate at any of the other restaurants in the area for what you'll get below $25 here. Â Complete with prime cuts of meat and fish, enjoy vegetarian and wide array of choices complete with wine and a smile. Â This alpine, wholesome and top quality food will keep you going on an all-day Outback excursion, or put you in contentment after drinking your way through the misery of gaping your way down Schoolmarm. Â Either way, you'll be welcome and well cared for.
My review is for the bar only. You'll pay a $5 cover on weekends but since there's live music, I'm okay with that. $4.50 for a Fat Tire on tap, and only other options are Bud and Miller? I'm less okay with that but you're paying for people watching, in my opinion. Interesting mix of people, from locals just getting off work and grabbing low-key drinks to cougars dancing and prowling for young men to hoards of my new favorite term "Skittles"...all the youngsters piling off buses from their hotels decked out head to toe in rainbow-colored gear. Thanks to my friend for filling me in on this hilarious nickname! Many many men in long hair, beanies with visors and huge printed hoodies. Though I don't really fit into any of those categories, I'll be back for more live music and to try the "best bloody Mary in Summit County."
Review Source:I would have paid $5 just to hang out with the locals. There was a fellow with a Zach-Galifianakis-esk beard and a shirt that said "Dillon Road Taliban". I thought that was hilarious. Despite the fact that I'm not a local and I'm not even a skier, everyone was very friendly.
I enjoyed the band (High 5) and I was pleased that they were not too loud for the venue. The bar staff was working hard, and could've used some help. But I was never without a beer.
Sometimes, I wish I could be more of a laid back townie.
Where do I start. Â $5 cover for a band that cam hardly shave. Guitarist was good. The drummer was WAY over the top..poor guy. He really, really wanted to be noticed. There were a bunch of Tweens there, probably because of the band. Then there was the service. Awful. We sat for over ten minutes without any acknowledgement and went to the bar to get our own drinks. Then when the band started the server finally came over, the one with the macrame necklace. Â She took our order and then made us prepay?!!! Really!!! She was thoroughly unprofessional. Lastly, the TVs were on with the volume down. Nuggets v. Knicks 3 point spread with 90 seconds to go. They shut off the game so we could listen to the band (drummer ugh) warm up. Thanks! Won't be back for a band or that server but their mushrooms rock!
Review Source:so Keystone lacks places to eat and hang out during the off-season. after a day at the spa, my friend and i were ready to finally venture outside our hotel and check out this local hangout.
so Snack River Saloon seems interesting - it sounds like it should be some cowboy country club or something. but the place is split into a restaurant and a bar.
-------------------------------------------
i was in the mood for BBQ ribs, and my friend got the ('petit' portion) prime rib, and we were to share... SHARE? i wanted to steal her plate!!! the prime rib was juicy, pink in the center like it's supposed to be, and tender like the night.
the food was well beyond our expectations for a place that was very casual - you can wear jeans and i don't mean your fancy expensive pair.
-----------------------------------
after dinner we went next door to the bar where there was a live band playing. a lot of locals hang out here, and we met a few people in town for a bachelor party... i'm not sure how exciting it would be to hang out in a divish bar/restaurant for bachelor party, but hey to each their own.
the music was ok, the crowd was about 90% male (and you thought Man-Jose was bad!) but unlike the bay area, it seemed that all the guys are pretty chilled and not window-shopping you just because you happen to be of the XX chromosome. a random guy did try to hit on my friend (and a buddy wing for him to distract me from her) but that's pretty much on par with what you'd expect in a typical dive bar on a saturday night.
i wish we can do half stars... I would give this place 3.5 stars....
Snake River Saloon is an interesting adventure, very decent food, good crowd at the bar - a solid 3 Stars.
This place is great. Â I've been here two times...March 07 and March 08. Â Whether you are in the bar or in the restaurant, it's fantastic. Â The bar is a whole different experience from the restaurant. Â The restaurant is a bit upscale and the food is scrump-diddly-umscious! Â The restaurant is a bit pricey..but totally worth it! Â I highly recommend Snake River Saloon if you're in the Keystone/Breckenridge area!
