Snappers is a punk rock bar with a kick ass jukebox, darts, foosball, games, and even a stage for bands to perform. Â This dive bar truly has everything you'd want and more! Â Happy Hour $1 drinks from 3-7pm and then the standard $1 PBRs from 10-11pm ensures that you get buzzed for cheap along with everyone else. Â If you're looking for specialty beers or a huge selection, you're looking in the wrong place. The decor feels old west saloon meets CBGBs meets an underground sex shop and usually there's plenty of area to sit and talk without feeling overwhelmed. Â This is quite possibly my favorite bar in the world, thanks to the bartenders (Chip is always attentive) and great friends who hang out there.
Review Source:this place never lets me down.
the jukebox is amazing. the jam, bad brains, iggy pop, new york dolls, chuck berry... everything i love all on a classic jukebox.
fooseball table! even if im always too drunk and score for the other team.
darts. i like playing extreme darts where i stand at least 20 feet away and everyone moves to the other side of the bar.
dancing with men triple my age.
cute bartenders. cute guys and girls to  make out with. and wake up the next morning and wonder what happened and get the funnies.
root beer vodka! it may turn you gay though if you arnt already.
overall i feel extra rock n roll when i go here.
Sometimes you get so caught up in schtick that its easy to forget what bars exist for: Â to be places for people aged 21 and older to hang out, drink, meet people and shut out the world for a bit.
For this reason, Snapper Magees is a perfect place to go. Â Full disclosure: Â I've become friends with the owner, Travis, but that is far more a a result of why I'm writing this review than it is the reason I'm writing it.
The atmosphere of Snappers is perfect for a shy-but-not-shut-in like myself: Â not over crowded, but a good gregarious crowd. Â It also has some of the nicest and best and on top of their game bartenders around: Â when my glass is empty, it's not for long. Â They have a good selection on tap, including regular and Season Sam Adams at any given time, and a ridiculous bottle collection. Â They don't have a tippy top shelf, but the top shelf is more than sufficient.
They also have the best Jukebox in all the northeast (more disclosure: Â my band's CD is in the jukebox!!!!) with the possible exception of the Snapper Magees Kingston location (same owner). Â
Come Saturday night, Snappers transforms from dive bar to dive bar with music, bringing in local and regional (mostly punk rock) acts to seranade the built in crowd. Â Adding to the greatness of the bar as a bar is the greatness of the bar as hosts, with pizza, drink tickets, and part of the money from the door (even though those people would be there whether your band was playing or not). Â
The decor fits the mood: Â bills and flyers from shows that took place at the bar litter most of the walls, with pictures of pin-ups and vintage concert bills filling the gaps.
Snapper Magees isn't the latest trendy bar, and it's also not a dive bar by trend, it's about as authentic as it comes, and I cherish my time there for sure.
Snapper's is great if you are looking to escape the typical bar scene. Â It's the closest to a real "dive" bar in Torrington as you are going to get, which is a good thing. Â They only play punk or rock music (don't think there are only punks there though). Â You really have to be open-minded to go to Snapper's..so if you go in expecting a meat market of women and guys all trying to hook up with each other, you will be disappointed. Â It's basically a great place to go with friends and enjoy a good time together. Â
There are regulars, but they won't grill you when you walk in like most other small bars.  The bartenders are very friendly and so are all of the people who usually go to  Snapper's.
The only things to keep in mind: They do not take credit cards (no tabs), and they do not serve energy drinks at all, in anything!
I hate having to say this, but a big misconception about Snapper's among locals in Torrington is that it is a Gay Bar. Â This is not true!!!
