We had a great time at Sophie's. Went with a group of 5 on a Saturday night in the winter and it wasn't that busy. We each had the 8-ounce filet and each was cooked to perfection. The side of broccoli complimented it perfectly and all of their side sauces (you can order various sauces separately) were great. We polished our steak off with the oatmeal pie for dessert - yummy!! Service was great as well. We will definitely return!
Review Source:This place is wonderful!! Â My husband and I came up here to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Â The wait staff was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious. Â As a nice touch, our waitress told the other staff it was our anniversary and so they all wished us a happy anniversary, including the manager. Â We will definitely be coming back here again.
Review Source:I don't eat meat so I asked them to leave bacon out of the spinach that was served with the tuna-they didn't. Also, the bread was hard, the rice pilaf was dry and the tuna was nothing special. The service was confusing with multiple servers. My biggest regret is that I wimped out and didn't send the entire meal back to the kitchen.Lesson learned: never go to a steak house for fish.
Review Source:Sophie's was a very pleasant surprise - coming to South Haven for the first time we asked a local where we should eat and his first suggestion was Sophie's. Â After a quick peek on Yelp, I was less than enthused but decided to follow the advice. And what great advice it was!
A quick drive from the main downtown area, Sophie's was beautifully decorated, with copper tones and fantastically set tables. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, guiding us through the menu and explaining the specials. We ordered a fantastic Sauvignon Blanc to sip while looking the menu over, and all decided to go with steak. Â The entrees came with a house or ceaser salad (both lovely) and the meat was cooked exactly as ordered. We chose one risotto (mushroom, creamy, lovely) and two of us opted for the less healthy but equally satisfying home fries. And despite have a substantial meal, we managed to squeeze in two desserts (a very smooth creme brule and ridiculously chocolate'y flourless cake).
It was truly a great meal with a correctly priced menu. Bon Appetite!
We visited Sophie's with 12 people and overall we had a good time but we had to be very tolerant of the wait staff. They forgot to make my salad and forgot to make my friends entree which was a fillet. By the time it got there everyone else was done eating.
I had a Delmonico steak which was awesome but the risotto was soupy and they ran out of anchovies for the Caesar salad.
If they can get some leadership to instill teamwork amongst their staff, they have an opportunity to be a great spot.
This was our second visit. We gave them a couple of months to smooth things out and get the concept of team service together. They don't seem to have that working yet. The servers asked the same thing a couple of times and we had to tell them the other server was getting our drinks. It took what seemed a long time to get drinks even though the bar only had one person seated there. The atmosphere is fairly nice, it's upscale of sorts. The greeter was very friendly, took our coats, held the door for us, etc. Servers are very friendly and will get whatever you ask for. That's not the problem, it just takes some time to get what you want and it wasn't very busy. The steaks are good, prime cuts and done just right. I had the Delmonico and my date had the small filet. The filet was good size and my steak was perfect. The salad was cold, crisp and flavorful. I ordered the "fresh cut fries" and there weren't. How hard is it to make fresh french fries? Next time I'll get the baked potato. We had the lemon dessert, that is very good and this was the second time we had it. I'd give them a 2.5 star if I could. It's decent, but doesn't seem to match up with the other two places they own, Thirsty Perch and Tello's.
Review Source:Second visit recently. Â The quality of the steaks seems to have improved. Â I splurged on the porterhouse and it was great. Â Side salad was crisp and good dressing.. Â "Hand cut fries" did not seem fresh cut to me. Â Above average creme brulee. Â Service by multiple people still does not work well; had two people come and ask the same question at our table twice. Â Only other gripe is that they do not accept reservations. Â I know that reservations present problems for the restaurant but a place attempting to be a high-end steakhouse owes it to its guests to take reservations.
Review Source:I wish I could properly review this place. We called for a reservation for New Year's eve and were told that they don't take reservations. So 4 of us went at 6:30 to eat to be asked if we had a reservation and then told that without one they couldn't seat us until 9. They easily had 6 open 4 toppers and a sign on the door stating that they don't take reservations. Thankfully Maria's in town went out of their way to accommodate us and give us a wonderful experience. I'll go there first next time.
