Southern Ground Social Club

Wow...this place caught me by surprise.  We went to Senoia to see the town of Woodbury, as seen on The Walking Dead.  For us being tourists in a small town, we wanted to patronize the local community & get lunch.  After asking a few locals, we chose Southern Ground & could not have been happier with our choice.

Really cool atmosphere & nice staff.  Knowing that some of the proceeds go to Zac Brown Band's charity "Camp Southern Ground," it makes the dining experience that much better.  The food was terrific.  Small, limited menu but very detailed in the presentation & flavors.  The sandwiches are on cornbread rolls so don't be shocked at the small size of them because they are heavier than most sandwiches.  Cole slaw side was very fresh & tasty.  

I hope the band opens one in Atlanta so we can visit often!  If you venture out to Senoia, which I suggest anyone in the area should...not only for The Walking Dead sites & nostalgia but because the town is very cute with a lot of nice shops.  Enjoy!

As an uber tourist, I wanted to go check out the South's small towns and what better place than Senoia (aka Woodbury from the Walking Dead). Not only is the town as picture perfect as you would imagine, Zac Brown has a restraunt there? What?

No reservation,we went at 1130am for lunch. There were open tables, food was delicious.  I had a farmer's daughter for 10- i don't like pickled beets, so I took that off. Otheriwse the kale was great, pita fresh, and overall delicious with nice strong flavors!! My mother had some chicken sandwich- perfectly portioned, and she said the coleslaw was the best she'd EVER had!

I got sweet tea and LOVED they served the SWEET separately because then you could add the perfect amount.

Oh, did I mention Zac was there? Yes, kind of scary for me, so I tried to bail before he walked over to our table. But I did talk to him by the restroom. Super cute place, I would 100% return and recommend!

The menu is limited, and it doesn't mention that the $10 sandwiches is actually a slider.  That's right, one slider for $10.    

I found this out after waiting over an hour and a half for the food to be delivered.  Apparently Zac's fan club was having a party in the back and taking up the kitchen.  We weren't informed about this until I had to chase after waiters to find out about the delay, and not once did anyone bother to apologize.   I've only walked out of a restaurant once in my life, and this came perilously close to a repeat performance.  

By the time the food arrived, I was understandably famished. You can imagine my dismay when I found my "meal" would only take about 4 bites to finish.

To make matters worse, the slider itself was phenomenal...inventive and well executed.  Not that I could enjoy it as I was so hungry that within five seconds it was gone.  The bean "side dish," on the other hand, was entirely tasteless.  I actually had to head up the street to Redneck Gourmet to complete my lunch.  

I didn't drink anything but their (admittedly nice) iced tea, but I glanced at the drink menu and it was certainly overpriced...there are plenty of places in the middle of Atlanta with better selections and prices.  

Anyway, I'm sure there are enough Zac Brown fans to keep this place busy as it is.  While I'm not a fan myself, if they figure out what a normal portion size is and pick up some basic customer service skills I'm sure it would be popular with a lot more people.
