Great place to watch a game, people watch, and make conversation with the bartenders. Came to Yakima for a convention and just wanted to get out of my room. Came here to watch the Mariners lose again. Ponied up to the bar and watched the game with a drink and dinner. Very cool local crowd.
Review Source:The one place that stood out the most while driving around Yakima was The Sports Center. I so wanted to ride the spinning around Hunter guy. When we sat down to order I went right for the Pork Shanks! Those tasty mother fuckers didn't disappoint. The mussels were decent, but they were no Pork Shanks. I had a salad, which one I don't really recall, but it definitely didn't tast like Pork Shanks. The waitress are just enough reason to go in there and perv out for a bit. LovE you Sports Center.
Review Source:Just ate there not more than 30 minutes ago. Â More than respectable food and impressive beer list--local favorites, rotating goodies, and even some stuff for the dude-bros (e.g Miller Lite). Â I was struggling to find something the could make up for Bob's Keg & Cork not being open and this more than did the trick. Â + I don't know if it's the fact that this is the west or what, but people are damn nice there, too. Â Not too expensive (beer and a burger for around $14). Â If I ever get back to Yakima, I'll be in here.
Review Source:A hipster bar in the Yak that re-defines hipster because it is not intentionally trying to be something it is not? Â Yups.
Bugsy likes to lay-low here... the grunged-out, metal-inspired, long-haired/bearded cats give Bugsy a feeling of warmth and protection.
Don't look into the kitchen...it is like looking at Medusa, and may change your mind. Â However, if you avoid the look, and order the food, you will be pleased...damn good food served here. Â Loves me a Portabella Burger with some of them home-cut fries... Mediterranean Platter "served for 1000's of years" is fresh and on-target. Â Pair it with local sounds and a cold brew, and you will be happy.
The rotating sign is hands-down the anchoring point of Yakima...
Be there. Go there. Â Experience Sports Center for yourself.
This place was awite. Â They actually have a pretty decent selection of beers. Â There are a few video games in the back (near the pool tables). Â This is a bar, but they also have food. Â I remember ordering a plate of fries (and I stress the word fry). Â The crowd here seemed cool. Â
I actually came here for a blind date, and we had a nice time conversating. Â Although I didn't like it when the drunk dude came up to the girl I was with. Â This is when we said we were brother & sister and in love. Â He zipped his lip and walked away: Â fisticuffs were averted.
Sportscenter has a great happy hour. They have delicious beers on tap (I'm always happy when I find a bar with Kilt Lifter) and cheap appetizers. I'm a fan of their cheese quesadilla, which they serve with a side of sour cream and is only $3 during happy hour. It's surprisingly filling.
Review Source:I am a Yakima Native and I enjoy going to the sportscenter. First I only went for drinks. They have a nice selection of beer on tap and even local wines available. I was pushed into trying the food by the owner and it actually was a great thing. I have to say the pockchops that they have there are GREAT! The menu as a whole, both lunch and dinner, is quite impressive. More than you would think from just looking at the building. Try it out.
Review Source:I'm from Yakima. I don't live there anymore. But when I come back, I head to Sportscenter. You'll see some familiar faces, you'll find some decent beer on tap (I stick to pabst and a shot), you'll love the sign out front with a swiveling hunter shooting into the sky, you might rock out to a local band. Music ranges from horrible (one band covered the Ghost Busters theme song, and they weren't being cynical about it) to pretty cool (this other band had Barrett Marten on drums, whom you may remember from Screaming Trees, Mad Season and Tuatara). Â Good energy here.
Review Source:My wife and I were in town for vacation and looking for a good place to grab a burger and a beer. Â We wandered by the Sports Center and figured that this was worth a chance. Â
After we pushed passed the drunks standing outside the restaurant we were greeted by a "doorman" who asked us for our IDs and for $5 each for the "cover charge"
At the time (0930 PM on a Saturday) there were only a handful of people either inside or outside the place and it looked like it needed an immediate visit from the health inspector. Â Needless to say I didn't spend $10 for the privilege of going inside and spending $60 to $70 on drinks and a meal.
I found better places to spend my money in Yakima and so should you!
The fish and chips is the best I found in my two years in Yakima. The breading is light and not crunchy. It's more like a tempura batter than anything else, really. The fries are delicious. Try the sweet potato fries, they kept me happy during my pregnancy! Everything I have had here is very very good.
As the others said, it is cold inside. Some tables are less cold than others but mostly, it's all cold. The service is hit and miss, but not bad enough for me to write a scathing review. I also agree that the layout is a little bad. All in all, Sport Center served me well during my two years in Yakima just um, don't go here at night. Scary scary parking lot in the back!!
I have never been to Yakima before in my life but work had me here on a day when I had tickets back in Berkeley to see Cal vs USC, so I was looking for a place to watch the game. Â I got on the web and found that this place was just a few doors down from my hotel so I went to check it out.
Absolutely the first thing you will notice about this restaurant is the sign. Â It is this huge 15 foot rotating hunter shooting a rifle... the end of the gun even has red neon around it to portray the rifle firing. Â You will never see a sign like this anywhere in the world except here. Â I had to take a picture and posted it along with this review.
But now on to the restaurant. Â Considering what I saw from the outside, the restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Â They actually have a pretty broad menu. Â Everything from salads and burgers to fish and a $32 10-oz filet mignon. Â When I walked in I thought the menu would be far less diverse than it turned out to be.
I ended up ordering the dinner mac and cheese ($12.95) Â which was good comfort food but not extraordinarily memorable. Â It came with soup or salad and I had the salad. Â I was pleasantly surprised that it was a real salad and not just some iceberg lettuce with some dressing. Â I finished with a brownie sundae which was probably below average.
All in all the food was average, service was good, and the atmosphere was really pretty nice. Â It's a pretty big place with a few different rooms. Â But they don't really try too hard as a sports bar. Â They only have basic cable coming in and had no chance of pulling down the Cal vs USC game.
Oh, and one other memorable note. Â Either Yakima is a haven for ZZ Top beards or this place attracts them. Â I've never seen so many foot-long beards in my life. Â I should have taken a picture! Â Ok, well I guess there were only two of them but still.... on a per capita basis this was the most ZZ Top beards I have seen in one building in my life!
The Sports Center was the first place we went to before we moved here, when we were still checking out Yakima, and I have to say it eased our minds a bit to know that there was at least one decent greasy spoon with a good beer selection in town. The food's kind of "meh" unless you buy something fried, in which case they excel. The sweet potato fries are incredible and the onion rings are very good. The burgers are exactly what you'd expect from a place like this -- big, juicy, full of flavor, and loaded with toppings. All the other items on the menu, though, I keep thinking to myself, "I could make this better at home."
The last time we went in, it was midday on a Saturday and the waitress ignored us for forever, and there was no one else in there. That's the first time it's happened to us, so I'll give them a mulligan, but I hope it's not a sign of things to come.
All in all, this is a good place to go if you want to grab a beer and get out of the house for a while.
The remodel is pretty nice, The owners are nice. The food is okay, the service is getting better. Â The smokers that hover over the doors need to be moved. Â The temperature is always cold in the restaurant/bar. Â
I'm surprised and glad to see the sports center stay open past two years. I was expecting it to dive after 6 months. Â
The set up of the  bar is a little chaotic
Sports Center, you have a good selection of beer. Â Your live band during the week is OK. Â Your pulled pork sandwich is barely passable. Â Your fish and chips are AWFUL.
Come on, this is pub food. Â It's not too difficult. Â The fish batter should not be dark brown and the fries should be *done*. Â Nothing else but fast food is open after 10pm so I should be thankful, but damn.
