This place was pretty good.  Cool atmosphere and decorations.  What stood out to me was the customer service.  My server was really friendly and prompt, could not have been better.

I got a house salad and  southwest burger with fries.  Salad was just a salad.  Not bad but not worth five bucks.  The burger was really good.  Cooked just as I ordered it and the fries were excellent.  They came it hot, they hadn't been sitting around.

I would go back for sure.  No complaints at all.  Really worth the short drive off the interstate to get here.

Stopped by here on the way back from a hiking trip.  We must have come in through a back entrance because we had to walk through the restaurant to reach the hostess station.  We decided to eat at the small bar area they had to the right as you walk in.  I had a burger and salad.  The burger was good, about what you would expect for a restaurant of this type.  I was happily surprised to find that they had Sam Adams Merry Mischief on tap.

Not bad for a place in this kind of area that's mostly fast food.  I had French onion soup and BBQ chicken with fries and a salad.  The fries were ok but the rest of the food I had was pretty good.  My boyfriend had the salmon and he wasn't a huge fan.

The Sam Adams beer was good and the service was prompt.  I'd come back if I was in the area.

We came on a Saturday night.  Business was steady but not overcrowded and there was no wait. We were staying nearby in the new Hampton Inn.

The worst thing was the bathroom.  I won't describe why though.  Wish they'd check on it a bit more regularly.

We had the Angry Bird with cole slaw and the Big Pork BBQ with fries and the egg roll appetizer.  We really liked the egg roll appetizer. The other food was good too. We would definitely go there again, if in the area.

New menu and the prices didn't really go up. Will miss Tequila Chicken but they added homemade chicken cordon bleu!

On entry did not feel very welcomed, good wait staff but ended up listening to a fight going on in the kitchen. Would not return

We were coming back from a drive along Skyline Drive, and we in the mood for straight-up American food to show off the best of American small-town life to our guest from Brazil. This place caught my eye. The decor is nice--it feels eclectic and individual rather than generic/manufactured "old timey". We shared an order of sweet potato fries to start with, and then I had the Delmonico steak with beans and onion rings, my husband had the Spring House marinated strip steak, while our Brazilian guest had the Tavern burger. The food was all very good, with the only complaint being that I think they may have switched around the "doneness" request on my steak and my husbands. Mine was medium rather than medium rare as I requested, and my husband asked for medium well but got a steak that I would describe as medium rare.

We shared an order of cheesecake and the brownie sundae for dessert. The cheesecake was ok, but the brownie sundae was TO DIE FOR.

I honestly like this place enough to drive 40 minutes to go eat there. The reason though I only gave this review 4* and not 5* is because of the fresh chips, though they were home made and seems to be made to order, I absolutely hated the seasoning on them. I wasn't even able to scrape it off with a fork, my finger or anything I had to drench the perfectly good chips in ketchup to be able to eat them. Besides that the food was very good. I love the decor kind of like an old country tavern, very nice. The second time I went was after a day of geocaching and it was raining, the parking spots out front were open so all I had to do was jump out of the car and right inside. I ordered the ranch, buffalo chicken wrap and it is absolutely to die for!

    Will definitely be back again!!

For now, my search for decent ribs in Virginia is over.  I have found them at Spring House Tavern!

Second visit and the ribs are definite winner. My first visit I do not remember that the food  was particularly note worthy, but I also did not eat the ribs.

The waitress was friendly, efficient and offered excellent suggestions. I let her surprise me with her choice of salad dressing and what I got was wonderful. It was Vidialia Onion dressing. I had ribs with beans and a salad. My spouse had salmon with their spicy cole slaw. He loved my beans and didn't share his cole slaw, so I guess it was good. The salad was uninspired but very fresh so no complains there. Just iceberg with onions, croutons and cocktail tomato's.

Ignore the dated interior and shabby outside. Ignore the dark and drab walls with tacky high school athletic stuff on walls ( and miniature bathrooms). Just have the ribs. Really, they are good.

I will go back again and again...for the ribs! Finally! mmmm

Food was average.  Waitress was nice and service was quick, although the waitress did not always know the details of the menu.  Chicken BBQ sandwich was okay, as was the pulled pork bbq sandwich.  Nothing to write home about but it was a good place for a regular meal.

I would definitely return if I'm in town again.  Was around for a wedding and needed a place to stop and grab a bite to eat and a cold beer.   They had a special where all draft beer was $1.49 in the month of May.   We tried the southwestern egg rolls on special which were very good.  We split the steak and cheese that came with fries.   Steak and Cheese is very hit or miss, but it was exactly what we were looking for.   Being Preakness Saturday the bartender was working on perfecting her Black Eyed Susan... we enjoyed the attempts.   Great place in a small town.

Ambience and decor is nice.  Had salmon steak, veg and shrimp add on.  All were edible but they seemed like they were prepackaged pre-frozen food. Not very good. The best part of the meal was the appetizer. Crab stuff mushrooms. Ice tea was horrible... ha I would normally try to give a better review but the food just sucked for the price. It was ok but will not be visiting there again.

For the price it's not worth it.

Had a nice dinner with my family (2 young kids) at the Spring House Tavern.  The kids split a full rack of ribs.  The wife had a half-rack, and I opted for a NY Strip Steak.  There was little talking for the first fifteen minutes and no meat left after that.  Basically, the food was a big hit.  The side of vegetables was also nicely prepared though I ate more than the kids.  Desert was excellent: apple pie with ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel.

One tip: there are at least 3 rooms in the tavern. We ate in a cozy room in the front on the right (as you come in off the street).  There was a larger room in the front to the left full of bar patrons watching a large-screen TV.  Only when I went to wash my hands did I realize that there was a pretty big dining room in the rear of the restaurant.  I preferred where we sat but don't get scared off if it looks full without checking the back.

Service was prompt and accurate but not overly friendly.  The crowd where we sat and in the bar was mostly locals.  Don't know about in back.

My one problem (and the reason for 3 stars rather than 4) is the coupon they have going around town. It reads "10% off entire meal excluding alcohol".  When it came time to cash it in we were told that the coupon excludes alcohol (no surpise) and they can't split checks (ok . .) therefore we can't use the coupon at all (WTF?!).

The waitress asked if I wanted to see the manager but I said don't bother.  I came here because there are maybe 3 places in town, not to save 10%, and I enjoyed the food.  But this is plainly dishonest.  You can decide how much that matters to you but don't count on any deals here.

the colonial ambiance is nice, however the food is nothing special. i tried the lobster tails as well as the ribs. both were only ok. certainly doesn't live up to their slogan of best ribs in the valley. most of the customers seemed to be locals having drinks at the bar. waitress was prompt but not especially friendly. not a place high on my list to return to.

The food is usually decent.  The staff is somewhat friendly.  When we ordered takeout we were served expired sour cream one time and stale potato chips the next.  We will not go back for dining in or taking out.  When you are served food that is past it's prime twice in a row, then it seems to become a pattern.
