Our car broke down in Ellensburg, and this lovely restaurant let us hang out in their air conditioned loveliness. It's under new management, clean, and very friendly. We just snacked on appetizers, and they didn't mind at all that we were basically taking up space. Very friendly, good food, clean and reasonable prices. We appreciated their hospitality and will come here again.
Review Source:We had read good reviews about the crab and prime rib buffet, so on our way through Ellensburg we planned a stop at Spurs. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. There was a seafood buffet, with steamers, crabcakes, salmon, and crab legs, but most of it was very dry and not very tasty. The sides were scalloped potatoes and a couple of pasta options. There were no hot vegetables at all, and the "salad bar" was pretty much a choice between a bowl of lettuce with tomatoes mixed in or coleslaw. The prime rib was good and the staff seemed earnest, thoughtful, and hard-working. Â The restaurant was busy, but I can't imagine going back again.
Review Source:What a disappointment. After reading other "raving" reviews, we were looking forward to eating at Spurs, as we were staying across the lot at the HIE.
We were seated and greeting by a very pleasant young man who did his best at trying to make up for what was a less than stellar dinner service. I ordered the 10 oz rib-eye "extremely rare" and my spouse ordered the 16 oz rib-eye "medium rare". We had 2 enjoyable cocktails and an appetizer , the clam chowder while loaded was on the watery side and the wedge salad was ok. The steaks arrived and things started falling apart.
The server was a bit unsure of which steak was whose as they appeared to be of the same size. He went back to check with the chef and returned to apologize that the chef had misread the 16oz order as a 10 oz. The server immediately stated that we'd be discounted for the lower price. My steak was over cooked and the seasoning was so peppery that even after trying to scrape off what I could, I still could not eat the steak. My spouse's steak was cooked "ok" and he found it a bit on the peppery side as well. We had each ordered an additional cocktail and do not know what we were served...mine tasted like club soda perhaps (was supposed to be gin/tonic) and his was perhaps straight tonic (definitely no vodka). The server continued to apologize and ended up charging us only for the appetizers one meal and one round of drinks. Â Major kudos tot he young man but major thumbs-down to Spurs.
The place has reopened under new management. It has now been re-named Spurs bar and grill , It was previously call the Cattlemans. We went in about 10:30 Am and were the only people in the place from the time we arrived until the time we left. We were given water and we ordered. I'm on a restricted diet and asked if they had egg beaters? No was the answer. Ok that's fine I will have this omelet with egg whites no cheese and dry wheat toast No potatoes sliced tomatoes instead. I have been in this business for 35 years myself so I know this is not a hard request
The food took Forever! When it did arrive it was mediocre at best. I did not have the potatoes but my friend said they were hard and tasteless. I tried one and she was correct..I saw what appeared to be a manager or owner sitting at a table. A lady came in (possibly his wife) and asked what he was eating, he said ""an omelet the cook made a mistake on so I ate it". This explains why our food took so long! It would have been in the servers best interest to be honest. As in saying something like" Opps the cook made a mistake on your omelet so it will just be a few more minutes while he prepares a new one for you. Instead we are left sitting there wondering what the heck is taking so long! Come on people we were the only table and the cook can't get it right? Â At this rate you will be out of busyness soon. I know we will not return and we are Locals.
