This is an excellent eatery. Â The food is very tasty and the specials are a real bargain. Â (i.e. a large grilled tenderloin and a side for six bucks). Â It's a fun place to dine with plenty of menu choices. Â I was tempted to try the triple pork sandwich but gave the arteries a little break.
On the downside, I didn't see a whole lot of healthy options but that's okay. Â The grilled tenderloin was very tasty and not too hard on the waste line. Â You can still watch the fat and calories if so inclined.
Overall, this is a very nice place to dine and I would happily bring friends and family. Â For a small town, it's a powerful contender. Â Give it a try! Â I wish I could give it 4.5 stars!
Great stuff!
Star Bar is much more than just a bar to this this growing bedroom community. Â As the town's only drinking establishment, it is the de facto town hall, general store and barbershop all rolled into one. Â Located three blocks off Hwy 151 in the heart of the original town, before new housing developments made Fairfax a SW Cedar Rapids suburb. Â It's the kind of place where everyone turns around to see who walking in the front door because it's likely someone they know. Â The crowd is friendly and lively, a mix of young and old. Â You'll find card players and dart throwers in the back room. Â There's a patio out back, but I haven't seen much activity there since the smoking ban took affect (thank God for that, you can see your hand in front of face now). Â The food's all pretty good with the usual bar fare and drinks are cheap. Â Town bars can be a lot of fun and this one is an oasis in an otherwise sleepy little burb-town. (I just made up that word, but it fits).
Review Source:This is the local bar in Fairfax. Since I grew up there, I have to give it five stars. The place has some history though. It used to be The Star Bar Saloon, Hotel & Livery; rumored to be a place where Jesse James occasionally stayed. When I was a kid, they still had the hitching posts up out front. They are proudly the oldest bar to be serving Budweiser in the western United States.
