Wanting Chili Mac? Not here!

Wanting Friendly and Fast Service? Look Elsewhere!

According to the "help" (i say this loosely, since they're aren't helpful at all) this is a new branding of Steak N Shake. I've never heard or seen this Signature store anywhere else. Nice for them to advertise that. (and all of this means that the menu is way smaller than what you're used to at a Steak N Shake...they have burgers, fries, and shakes. No salads or chili macs)

Hope you're not in a hurry for your burger, fry, and shake during lunch time (the time I was there). It took 20 minutes to receive my items....my cold fries and burger.

When trying to let the manager know about the poor service and food quality (I believe her name was Debra), I just nothing but a rude comment and a stare from her. I can't believe that this person is in charge, well actually I can...the place was poorly run.

As a frequent traveler of highway 61...i will gladly wait to eat either 30 minutes north or south of this joke of a Steak N Shake.

I must have missed the memo about Steak N Shake branching into something called Steak N Shake Signature, a sleeker model with a simplified menu. Without going into a bunch of details that you can read here - http://www.steaknshakesi… - the family and I stumbled into one of the three of these nationwide by accident. In...of all places...Canton, MO.

What's that you say?? Where the f**k is Canton, MO?

It's roughly 20 miles up the Mississippi River from Hannibal, Missouri which is, I guess, about 60 miles up the Mississippi from St. Louis. In other words, the middle of nowhere.

Anyway, for "fast" food, it's decent. If I lived in Canton, Missouri or was passing through again at lunchtime, I probably wouldn't hesitate to stop in and grab a burger, some of their very good super-thin shoestring fries, and a milkshake. If for no other reason than there can't be too many other options in that town and there aren't any other towns for what feels like a million-hour drive.

Now...note that I put "fast" in quotations. It probably took them 15 solid minutes to throw together 5 burgers, 4 fries and 3 milkshakes to-go.

As for the details of the food, the burgers start as these mini hockey-pucks of beef which are immediately flattened on the griddle in the style of Smashburger, Culvers, etc. resulting in absolutely zero chance of beef the way it's supposed to be eaten - with pink/red inside. The add-ons are fair to above-average (standard bacon, cheese, etc.) Two of my kids ordered the mushroom and swiss variety and both of them, as well as my wife noted how salty the mushrooms were. They were salty for sure, but I didn't mind finishing the half-burger my one kid didn't want (they also tasted like garlic butter...probably the best of all of our burger toppings). The bun was good...nothing special but soft textured and fresh.

I love the stringy style of fries so I also ate more than just my share. That said, if you don't like this style of french fry, you will probably hate these with a passion. My wife didn't care for them at all (she prefers the hand-cut style).

I only tasted the milkshake and it didn't do anything for me. The ice cream had a very grainy texture.

Prices were fair (you can review on their site).

All in all, I'd put it above Wendy's, McDonalds, Culvers, Hardees, etc. and about on par with the "boutique"/regional fast food burger chains sprouting up all over (Smashburger, Whataburger, Five Guys, In N Out, Fatburger, etc.).
