My usual disclaimer, the stars is top for a lunch joint.
Great service, friendly and fast. Â I had the original and enjoyed it. Â I will return to try out some of the other item's, great beer selection too.
Second visit made me a fan, forget what I had but when I am back I will get some grub here...
If you're looking for some delicious food that is definitely off the diet plan, this is the place for you! Â Atmosphere is your regular sports bar in a college town, but the food is a step above elsewhere in Indiana. Â I always get "the original" which is definitely excellent. Â Service has been great each time we've visited.
Review Source:We walked from our hotel to this samich shop just because someone told me how wonderful it was. I knew it was sandwiches (samiches) stuffed with coleslaw and French fries. How could I not automatically know I'd love it? So we arrive there, seat ourselves, and the waitress very helpful and nice. I had the Missing Link and my friend had the Italian. My friend liked his despite not caring for coleslaw and I LOVED my hot sausage and salami samich. Such good flavor. Amazing fries. We went after lunch hour on a Tuesday so I can't say for the service during peak hours but everyone who work there was very friendly and chit chatted with us about working in town for the week. If for whatever reason you're in this area definitely check out this restaurant for your samich fix!
Review Source:We stopped here for lunch while in town for a hockey tournament. I am giving this four stars mainly because we came during a Penguins hockey game, so all "samiches" were half price and beer was $2. Overall, it was a nice little "college sandwich shop." As other reviewers mentioned, there wasn't much meat on my samich, but the concept was clever, and the food was pretty good.
Review Source:Steel City is a great place to grab a bite to eat. If you are familiar with "Primanti Brothers" you'll love this place. Their "sammiches" are very good and they pile the toppings on high. The bar is fairly small but they have a great selection of beer and mixed drinks to compliment your meal. Prices are very reasonable and you won't spend an outrageous amount of money. The Pittsburgh theme is a nice touch and Pittsburghers will feel right at home.
Review Source:Yummy food, and they will customize it for you.I asked for no slaw and they complied. The food was so good and the fries rocked. The staff is nice and eager to please. They cater to bar crowds each night, but food Can be ordered all day. A good lunch spot or late night hang out. They now have booze on site. You can order and eat a five pound sandwich to get on a wall of fame. Cool.
Review Source:I was disappointed with the place when it opened, but I decided to give it another chance this month and I was rather pleased. Â Their Philly cheesesteak with "double meat" is actually pretty good, and I'd recommend it. Â You'll need to order double meat, since the place seems a little bit skimpy with the meat.
Review Source:Although I've never had an "authentic" Primanti sandwich, I like this place. Â I'm not a fan of slaw, much less in my sandwich, but the slaw here is unlike anything I've had in the past. Â Again, I don't know have anything to compare this to, but for Indiana, it's worth trying.
Because they make everything fresh and to-order, it takes some time for your food to come out. Â This isn't the type of food people should be eating everyday, which is a damn shame given their low prices.
Their chili is - how do I put this? - phenomenal! Â It's better than my mom's (but don't tell her that). Â It's got the right amount of spice - at least for a person like me who likes everything spicy and barely feels the heat anymore. Â Plus, it's open late when the bars close. Â I only had a bite of one of their samiches and, being from the Philadelphia area, I was quite impressed, but can't say how they compare to this Primanti's place everyone kept telling me about. Â Next time I'm around I wanna go with a friend and give their samich challenge a go - the snuffaluffagus something or other.
Review Source:i know this is supposed to be niche food, but it's bad niche food. Â i got brown soggy stale french fries and their "happy ending" was stale bread with honey, strawberry and chocolate syrups on it. yuck. they should give it away for free. the description made it sound like funnel cake. Â i would rate it better but our fries were disgusting and the entire meal was brought down because they put french friees in everything! however, i'm giving this three stars because they did customize my order and delivered it promptly....even though the guy on the phone sounded like he just got back in from his "smoke break"
Review Source:These guys do what they do very well--knock-off Primanti-style sandwiches in a collegiate atmosphere. Â I don't LOVE the fries and slaw on the sandwich thing, or maybe I'd hit them with five stars, but the food is fresh and the young owners are enthusiastic. Â Pound for pound, the price is pretty reasonable--you'd be hard put to build this at home for much less, and it wouldn't be as good.
Unless you're tremendously lazy, ignore the comments about parking--the shop is three blocks off campus in the heart of downtown Indiana. Â You may not always get a place right in front, but there's plenty of metered parking within walking distance, and an entire parking garage less than 50 yards away.
If you like sandwiches--er, I mean samiches--this place is worth a shot.
They make "samiches" the Pittsburgh way, with french fries and cole slaw thrown into an already hearty sandwich. (This is also known as a "Primanti" sandwich to Pittsburgh natives. Primanti Brothers are considered by most people to be the original pioneers of this type of sandwich, but they don't have a restaurant in town. You'll have to go to Pittsburgh for that.) It is a unique taste and a great experience for out-of-towners. The fries are always fresh cut and just out of the fryer, and the cole slaw is great. They definitely don't skimp on the meat, so one sandwich should quench even the heartiest appetite. I usually have leftover for later.
They have some tables outside, some tables and booths inside, and a diner-type bar to sit at. A lot of people just get their sandwiches to go. They are open very late so they are a popular place to grab a bite after the bars close. The staff is always courteous, even when alcohol makes some of the customers less than so. This, coupled with clean restrooms and a wide selection of beverages make this a great place to eat. Check 'em out! They also sell shirts that are covered in "Pittsburghese." Your friends will be jealous!
