This place is OUTSTANDING! Â Located on the river. Â You have a choice of sitting in the bar/dining area inside or outside in several of the patio areas. Â We've visited on many occasions for lunch and dinner have been pleasantly surprised each time. The place is clean, the service is great and the food is superb. Â They also have entertainment during the summer with a mix of all kinds of music. Â If you haven't been to the Steelhead Lodge, I highly recommend stopping by for a drink, lunch or dinner. Absolutely one of my favorite places in the Yuba-Sutter area. Â Enjoy, you're going to love this place!
Review Source:I would like to give this place a 4 star rating, but unable to due to service issues. Â I have been there 3 times and each time service has suffered. Â It seems that they run about one waitperson short and nobody is managing the staff. Â The food is good and the location is great. Â Hopefully they will get the service issue solved as it is wonderful to have a place with a great deck to eat at on the Sacramento River.
Review Source:Butte Slough Road is a levee-top road. Â The waterway the levee attempts to tame is the mighty Sacramento.
Examples on examples of our struggle with temporaryness abound, but none maybe so confounding as the attempts to tame non-human natural forces (by the way - never simply use the word "natural" by itself to describe the non-human environment - humans are as much a part of the natural environment as everything else - non-human natural, or non-human environmental makes the important distinction without all hubristically separating us from the world of which we are a vital part).
Sorry. Â What was I saying?
Butte Slough Road is a levee-top road. Â It pens temporarily the Sacramento River just east of the town of Colusa. Â Colusa, Butte Slough Road and Colusa Landing (formerly the Steelhead Lodge) are all west of the Sutter Buttes, a beautiful collapsed caldera of an ancient volcano penetrating the sediments of the central valley just a few miles away. Â There are many such volcanoes in the valley, but most never made their way to the surface. Â They're dead beneath you as you ply the byways on your way to Dorriss.
I hiked the Buttes Sunday past, and retired to Colusa Landing for a refreshing beverage after. Â Sweet spot, this, particularly if you've worked up a more than one frosty beverage thirst. Â Well-tended patio, smiling friendly staff, price tags that won't break your checkbook. Â Mind, I only read the menu, I sampled it not. Â So qualify my stars with the fact that I enjoyed only the smiles, the bevvies, and the soft whisper of the river on its trip to the sea.
And remember, my love:
Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
I found this place by accident while exploring the area, when in Colusa for the week on business. The food was delicious and freshly prepared to order, the service was great and the price was very reasonable. The view of the Sacramento River was incredible, especially at sunset. Although, make sure that you ask for mosquito spray, if you eat outside during the summer nights- because they are hungry as well.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I came out to see what Steel head lodge was all about. Â I arrived on a Saturday around lunchtime and was never greeted or asked to be seated. Â My boyfriend and I sat down and were finally waited on by a blue eyed dark hair girl. Â Took forever to get a drink. Â Food was good, but the waitress never asked if we needed or wanted anything else, just brought the check. Â I told the waitress we were both going to have another drink, but never got that either. Â Nice place but not worth the drive from Yuba City for average service.
Review Source:This is definitely one of the out of the way places that you will never find unless you are looking for it.
I heard about this place from former co-workers, and had to give it a try.
When we arrived, we walked in and I was pleasantly surpassed to see how clean and "new" this place looked. Â We were promptly greeted and seated outside on the river patio. Â They are expanding their patio seating, so this is a must try place. Â The river patio hangs over the river, and you have a great view of the water. Â While we were sitting eating, we saw local fowl and a river otter. Â The otter was having a blast playing in the water. Â It was a great show. Â There are some piers that allow for boat to dock and you can walk up to enjoy this place.
Our drinks were promptly brought, and we started to look through the menu. Â It has a good section, without trying to over compensate. Â I tried the corned beef and it was very good. Â It had good flavor, and was filling. Â I had the sweet potato fries as the side, and they were disappointing. They were very small, thin, and had the texture of sharp little needles. Â They had no flavor because they were so small and overcooked.
My lunch companion had a steak sandwich with onion rings. Â She said the sandwich was good, and I tried the rings and can attest to the great taste of the rings. Â They are a must try.
The service this place provided was outstanding. Â The staff was attentive, and on top of making sure everything was in place.
I never give 5's, so this place would have gotten 4 stars from me if the sweet potato fries were better. Â They were the worst sweet potato fries I have ever tried. Â I would not eat them again.
I would go back to this place, and I would recommend it to anyone.
