Gourmet-quality baked goods, and a few good deli items, in an isolated rural community. A very interesting mix of vacationers, local families, and national-park-related people patronize this spot. Best known for their large cinnamon rolls, they also make excellent pies and mountain bars. A few gluten free items are available. Their culinary achievements are all the more remarkable considering the lack of competition. It's two miles from the boat landing--a long hike or short bike ride will help burn off the extra calories.

Stopped in for lunch while biking and enjoyed our meals very much. I had a delicious egg salad on fresh wheat bread. My boyfriend had pizza and I snagged a bite of that. The pizza crust was the best! We ate outside and it was comfortable but inside they offered nice seating as well. Friendly welcoming staff.
We then decided to take a cinnamon roll for later......great decision! It was so yummy.

Legends of the Bakery reach all the way to the south end of Lake Chelan--before we'd even considered renting bikes in town we were accosted by our friends--"You should get a bike so you can go to the bakery."  And for good reason.

The Bakery aka Stehekin Pastry Shop is a comfortable bakery and cafe, both inside and out, with a large bike rack and a stop off the Stehekin shuttle.  Known for their pastries and cakes they also have a deli, pizza, and chicken pockets, all of which we tried on our repeat trips throughout the weekend.

There are nice big tables and a comfortable lawn outside, and if you're lucky the neighbors salt lick will attract some nearby deer.  Inside also houses large tables and a comfortable atmosphere.   Perfect for a afternoon treat or a bike-riding break, but get there early as they tend to sell out, particularly during the summer season.

We love coming here! This is down home cooking! This place has never let us down; We stay at the ranch and love waiting to get our pie for dessert. In fact we took pies to go home with and gift on our way out. Rustic, clean, charming and AMAZING cakes, pies and pastries.

Absolutely loved this place and the space.  They get very busy, but manage the crowds and the outdoor seating space is really nice in the summer.  I had an amazing slice of berry pie with a very tasty latte and enjoyed the friendly staff who went out of their way to make me happy even when it was pretty busy.

Perhaps my favorite bakery, EVER.  The fact that it's at the end of the world makes it that much better, like stumbling onto an oasis of sticky buns in the middle of the forest.  I felt just like goldilocks without the bears.

If you've hiked your ass off to get here instead of partaking in that painfully long boat ride, all the better.  Buy something for the road, you've earned it.

After hiking in the backcountry for 5 days, everything about this place was glorious.  Of course there's the Cinnamon buns, but they also had sandwiches you could pack for the hike out.  Running water too!

Cinnamon buns the size of a baby's head for $2.75 that will give you enough calories to feed off of for upcoming days on the trail = A+ in my book!

Free coffee for customers. Clean new bathrooms that smell like pine wood. Credit cards accepted. Fresh-cut wildflowers on each table and light and airy laid-back atmosphere. About 2 miles from the boat landing, but a pleasant and easy walk.

If this bakery was in a more conventional setting, I suspect I might not have given it more than three stars but because of it's inaccessibility, it's such a pleasant experience that four stars feel like a no-brainer. For starters, you can only get to Steheken by boat or by a long hike. It's at the north end of Lake Chelan and has a permanent population of around 100 people. Then you walk for two miles or rent a bike and just when you feel really hungry, there it is. The sandwiches are quite nice and there are plenty of dessert stuff (including enormous cinnamon rolls) to boost your spirits as well. I hear they have pizza too until it sells out. No beer, sadly. But there is a decent caffe latte, good bread to buy and fine rest rooms as well. A visit to Stehekin is a well spent part of a Lake Chelan vacation and if you go there, please don't miss the bakery. Oh, and send a post card from the highly uncomputerized post office, too.
