After hearing about their beer selection, about how good their food was and doing a quick search on Yelp, my wife and I came here last night.  We'll be back.

Bottom-line up front: Great food...great drinks...needs more help.

Here's my review: Restaurant, Eats, Drinks, Service and Price skip to what you want to know about.

RESTAURANT: Really nice on the inside. The establishment itself is in a sketchy strip mall. Wasn't sure whether it was the fact this place is lodged between a gun-shop and a Hungry Howies or the fact that the sign you see from the street says: Pub.  But when we pulled up, my wife's eyes were rolling while she asked me "where I brought her to?!" LOL...but I assured her it was fine, and it was. Once you get inside you forget your in a strip mall.  Real nice decor, wood tables, etc.

We got there at about 6pm on a Friday, so I was expecting a little bit of a wait, and we did, for about 5 mins. The crowd in there couldn't figure out if it was a restaurant or the place to go after work...both groups in attendance. Noise level was a little loud which could be because of the acoustics,  or because the place was packed, which is a good sign.  Note to patrons, at least on a Friday night, don't bring your kids here. Not a place for kids. 2 couples behind us brought their 4 kids, and overall they were fine, but they were kids, running around, bored, taking up tables and not using them while people were waiting.

EATS: GREAT! Now granted only 2 of us, and our selections were limited, but what we got was awesome. Ordered the Tots app with everything but the egg.  While it could have come out a gooey, sloppy mess, it didn't.  Just the right amount of toppings on the tots, and they were delicious.  I ordered the Volcano Burger, came out perfect and the my wife got the Philly Steak, both were great.  Interesting thing on the burger, they're big, but not really thick, which was nice. Trust me, they're no McD's burger, but also doesn't not too big to fit in your mouth.  Overall the menu seemed unique, interesting and yet I knew what I was ordering.  Tasty all around.  For a pub place, applause for the chef!

DRINKS: If your looking for S&V you know they're known for their craft beer selection, and it doesn't disappoint.  Got a CC Jai Lai and a Kentucky Bourbon Aged Stout, both were good and served in proper glasses. Nice. Only suggestion, we were sitting in the "back area," and it we couldn't see the draft board, and since they didn't have a listing, I had to get up to look at the board. As I said, the place was packed, so it was a little bit of an inconvenience, but nothing I couldn't handle. I would just suggest having a beer listing...that's all.

SERVICE: Here's why I knocked them down a notch...first off I'm not going to say we had bad service, because our Waitress was very nice and accommodating, but the 2 waitresses working there were overwhelmed and hence service suffered. Waited about 10 mins after sitting down before someone took our drink order...another 10 mins after the drinks came before we flagged down the waitress again to place the food order.  And then she forgot to put in my wife's dinner.  After the waitress realized what she did, she apologized up and down and assured us it would be right now...20 mins later.  During that 20 mins the waitress came by about 3 times to assure us, "it was coming." Like I said the waitress was great, and she even took off my wife's meal for it being so late, but I think one more waitress would have helped out huge.

PRICE: Good...decent, but for the food and drinks, you can't compare. Adding in the sandwich my wife ordered but we were comp'd it was about $45: 2 meals, an app, 2 beers and a soda.

Overall, and about the best compliment I can give it:  We'll be back...and soon.

Cute place with a very cool vibe.

I really like this little joint.  It's small and cozy but beneath their little pub atmosphere is some delicious grub, great wines and awesome beers.

The menu is simple but creative and well executed.  The tater tots are a must.  They have different specials each week like soups or a sandwich etc.  I've even seen ceviche on the menu.

It's a great place in an unlikely location.  Make sure to check it out.

Love the food and they have a great selection of beer! The Pig Wings and Fish and Chips are terrific!! Beer list rotates so no two visits are the same...always an adventure.

The place is a little small - which is too bad - so you may have to wait for a table. Don't leave - it will be worth the wait!

Bill and I went to The Stein & Vein last night and had a really good time! We sat at the bar and tried two new beers and had some unexpectedly awesome food.  To start - we had the tater tots with onions and jalapenos and cheese.  They were really good however, I do have to caution you that although the jalapenos were really fresh they were also extremely hot - so be prepared :)

For my dinner, I had the drunken shrimp which was AMAZING.  The shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for! Bill had the fish tacos which he said were some of the best fish tacos he has had in a long time.  They were piled high with generous pieces of fish, corn relish, and guacamole.  Most importantly, they were very fresh!

All in all, I thought that this place was chill and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.  I would definitely return - also, don't let the fact that it is located in a strip mall keep you from visiting because you will be very sorry you missed experiencing The Stein & Vein for yourself!

Their fish tacos are SO good!!! I don't order anything else for my dinner. Try the chili too...
Small but intimate setting. I like coming here just to hang out and "relax" with my friends, a glass of wine and good food. It's nice to have a place like this here in the Brandon area. A definite must try!!

I would've rated 1/2 star more but my iPad wont let me do it!  Great neighborhood place!  You'd never know this type of place is hidden in the mall it's located in.  Great food, although the menu is a little limited.  Great choice of craft beer on tap!  I wish there were more choices of wine!  Will definitely return!

This type of pub, with their constantly evolving array of non-mainstream brews, is just what was needed for this section of the greater Brandon area.  Too many of the places with "good" beers were clustered around the Brandon Blvd or mall area, and not enough were found further south, closer to the residential areas.  Problem solved!

The menu is good too, with some unique offerings, such as the Pig Wings, which are tasty short ribs.  The menu changes often too, and the S & V publishes these updated offerings regularly on their Facebook page--good job.

My lone complaint is everyone else seems to have discovered my new favorite spot, too; now it's harder and harder to get a seat!

    Come check 'em out.

Gastropub in Brandon?? I was dubious. They delivered. This would get 4 1/2 stars if it was possible to do so. Do not let the fact that it is in a strip mall anchored by BigLots and right next to a pawn shop keep you from passing this one by.

What they do well. Beer. They have lots of it. More than 20 on tap and over a hundred bottled beers. Our bartender was very knowledgeable about style, ABV, etc. I liked the fact that in addition to the now ubiquitous Sweetwater 420 on tap, they had 2 others, the LowRYEder IPA and a barley wine that you normally can only get in the ATL.

Food. My buddy was a little concerned that the food would be your typical pub fare and admitted after a few bites that it was certainly a lot more than just bar food. He ordered the fish and chips (actually tater tots) with a HUGE piece of white fish that was fried so well, it was still crispy 1/2 hour after it came out. Impressive. the homemade tartar sauce was a nice complement. I had the "pig wings" with 3 of the different sauces. I also had the wedge salad. MOST wedge salads are just that...a wedge of iceberg lettuce. This however, was a complete HEAD of lettuce, chopped into 4 wedges with plenty of homemade bleu cheese dressing, fresh blue cheese, bacon, tomatoes and balsamic. This is NOT a salad to have as an appetizer unless you plan on sharing it with 3 other people.

Overall, great place to have a beer, glass of wine and nosh on some good food!
