Quick Takes:
* unique, sophisticated lounge atmosphere
* great date spot
This place is fairly new and not very well known, but I'm really hoping these guys make it in this town! This place has a great location on Holly but is just on the edge downtown, which is probably why it's a lesser-known spot at the moment. This place has a really classy, sophisticated vibe - a really great spot to get away from college kids if you are wanting to get out on the weekend! They have a few different rooms - one with plush seating and a great spot to mingle, and then another with more tables and a pool table.
They have some really great cocktails but drinks aren't cheap, which makes it a tough sell for my friends who are mostly beyond college but are still young and poor... we love the vibe of this place but don't get in often enough, so it's on my list to try for happy hours or a special occasion.
Stella is a good place to get away from the college crowd and sit down and talk. They have live music and display local art. Â They have some unique drinks that can take a while to make because the bartenders are obviously meticulous about their craft. Â I hope they get a CC machine soon. Â A little getaway!
Review Source:Nice setting with lots of character but success will be a struggle. Great live music which wasn't too loud and still allowed for conversation. Downside was the expensive drinks, self serve bar and cash only. Not exactly customer centric. Hopefully a waitress and CCard machine is in their future.
Review Source:My first time to Stella, and I'm hoping they last longer than the other establishments in this spot. Â
It's hard to describe this place, although, being past my 20-30's I still really liked it and will be back. Â A variety of rooms, more like visiting someone's large home than going out, Stella has a great atmosphere, drinks made with care, comfortable furniture, and a pool table. Â A band was setting up as we were leaving, so I'll be back for the music. Â
Definitely a place you want to check out.
What a great place. The atmosphere is mellow without being sedate and welcoming without being overbearing. They do the classics drinks very well and have some amazing ones of their own as well. The staff are helpful and gracious. This is my new favorite place to have a relaxing drink with my wife or with our friends.
UPDATE: I have been back several more times and the place just gets better and better. New bartender (a woman named JO) is just amazing. She mixed a great drink and is just a blast.
From the moment my wife and I entered Stella, it had a very cool prohibition-era feel. Bartenders were dressed sharply, and the fixtures and finishes made everywhere you looked interesting.
We both enjoyed wonderful Espresso martinis on the comfortable chairs in a quiet side room. We were able to chat and mostly talked about how these folks were "nailing it" when it came to their business model and execution. One of the bartenders came in with some lovely (free!) shots of some vanilla/citrus Italian liqueur that tasted like it must've been made from angels.
We made our way to a new round of drinks and found them also impeccably crafted. Even when my wife had to get her second choice because of a lack of a particularly hard-to-get ingredient (it was only their second night open, so it was understandable), she still loved her cocktail.
Our friends arrived, and though we had intended to have a drink and go see a show, we ended up staying at Stella all night listening to jazz and playing pool. We will definitely be making Stella a regular stop for date night, or any other chance we get to step out.
I absolutely adore this place! Finally, a place that isn't completely overrun by the college crowds. A perfect place for date night or drinks with friends. The pool table is a nice option, as is the "orange room" where you can kick back on a cozy couch and share in an intimate conversation. The drinks are fabulous, definitely recommend one of their specialties. Bravo!!
Review Source:I can't say enough horrible things about this bar. The biggest thing is don't even waste your time or money. This place is really trying to be something that it will never be. It's basically somebodies personal bar to get drunk with their friends and party all night, which can be done in the comfort of your own home. Just another business that missed the mark once again for Bellingham and will be closed in 4 months. Nice try!!
Review Source:Love Stella. Brand new bar in downtown Bellingham, in the space formerly occupied by "Time In" (the old YMCA building. They make a good drink at this joint. It's top shelf cocktails at middle shelf prices. All of the "house" bottles are premium spirits, but the prices are quite reasonable (most drinks are in the $6-7 range). They have a good selection of northwest beers in bottles like Ninkasi (one of my favorites), and of course, Stella Artois. They don't have beer on tap yet, but I'm told that's coming. They've done great things with the space, lots of wood an deep green colors give a comfy Pacific NW vibe. Bar is basically three spaces, one large room with a pool table and lots of seating, bar area, and lounge area in corner. Went to their opening night on 12/7/12, looking forward to making it a regular hangout.
