We found this treat near Charlottesville!  Cute sandwich and entrée shop adjacent to their catering facility.  We both had Cubans...  Very good!  To get that last star from me... they could improve the seating area.  It's clear their focus is on catering and hosting events, which I suspect is where they excel!

Very disappointed in this place. I was expecting a lot more. Overpriced for what you get.  A sandwich will run you $8.95 but its small, topped with much filler lettuce, and you eat one and are still hungry. I had the Italian and my wife had the shaved chicken with pesto. Both were dry, dry, dry.

A friend and I stopped here in between winery visits and were pleasantly surprised. The Stonefire Kitchen has a great outdoor seating area and a very cute inside too. We ordered sandwiches and soup (around $10-$12 per person) to go. At first, the price seemed a bit high, but once we started eating, our minds were changed. The food was high quality and portioned well. This is a great find for those who are in the Barbousville area and looking for a casual place to grab a great meal.

I had the fig jam, virginia ham, gruyere and green apple on sourdough.  Other's had the lamb burger, the turkey sandwich, and a salmon sandwich.  We all loved our choices and would go back every day if we lived in the area.   The service was fast and friendly, no frills but with food this good you don't need frills.  Don't go to the overpriced Italian place up at the winery - come here.  You will spend less and get more.  Yeah for great food!!!

We were out wine tasting at Barboursville today a little before lunch time and of course we got hungry.  We had hopes of eating at Palladio's but they were not able to take us without a reservation.  So thanks to yelp we stumbled upon Stonefire Station (Kitchen) right down the street.  It's a walk up to the counter and place your order style sandwich shop.  The menu is intimidating at first but once they explained how it's organized it made more sense.  You can try their signature sandwiches or build your own which I thought was pretty cool.

I went with the locally raised pork burger.  Dang, it was good.  The smoked gouda was a real nice touch and the bun was perfectly toasted.  My wife got the reuben and the corned beef was perfectly prepared.

There were a few tables up front near the counter, but they have a TON of space in one of the back rooms.  I think they use that space for events, so no need to worry about finding a table if it looks crowded.  They also have outdoor seating if the weather permits.

Reasonably priced and friendly staff.  They brought our food to the table and took it away when we were done.

They also had a big selection of drinks to choose from.  Seemed like a well thought out selection of bottled beers and wines.

If you are out wine tasting in the CVille area this is definitely a great place to stop for lunch.  Thanks for the find yelp!!!  I will definitely be back.

Awesome sandwiches and salads! Hubby and I stopped here after going through the Shenandoah Nat'l Park for some lunch. They have a lot of house wines and micro brew as well.

The restrooms are down the hall past the kitchen and there's more seating around the corner from the end of the coolers. You can also sit outside.

Hands down one of my favorite lunch places and I don't even live in Virginia. I am generally a huge fan of Stonefire - as a venue (I had a perfect rehearsal dinner there) and as a lunch place.

The lunch selections is fantastic - original and fresh-tasting sandwiches, soups, salads and more substantial daily specials.

Always consistent. I usually chose from the big list of fantastic gourmet sandwiches (+make your own).  The #5 - goat cheese-artichoke spread with basil and pesto on toasted sourdough - is scrumptious every time. A decadent, vegetarian-friendly grilled cheese. The Mediterranean salad with pulled chicken, asparagus, those crunchy Spanish almonds, and more - so good.  Great drink, beer, wine selection. Have never ordered the picnic lunches to go - but plan to someday soon.

Great people behind the counter. Great atmosphere. We usually sit outside on the patio - the seating inside is limited.I wish this place were in DC - I would go three times a week.

Cute, quaint cafe in the middle of the road. Think: the Feast cafe in charlottesville, except more food for your buck. Staff is also super friendly which you don't really get much of in Charlottesville. My sandwich was a good size, came with a pickle and a small fruit salad. If I'm ever in the area, I'll stop by again.

One of the best Gourmet Sandwich Shoppes you will find anywhere. I had a cup of chili and a grilled cheese Sandwich. Doesn't sound like the choices to get a five star review, but this was no ordinary chili or sandwich. I normally love very hot chili, but this was spicy but not hot, and I didn't feel the need to add hot sauce that was available. Three kinds of beans, local beef and pork, and all kinds of secret spices with white Vermont cheddar. Best Chili I ever had. The grilled cheese sandwich was on fresh multi-grain bread with the same sharp Vermont White Cheddar. Yum! My wife was a little more exotic, she had the pear, fig jam, and brie, on grilled sourdough bread! All she could say was it was Wonderful! Great selection of Micro Brews, local wines, and specialty sodas to wash it all down.

The reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because I am from Lynchburg and it's difficult to find a locally owned place where you can buy a lunch and feel that it is truly healthy.

On this particular day I was going to visit my uncle for the afternoon in Orange and we decided to try it since we had noticed the place before on our way to a few wineries in the area.

I didn't realize that over half the building is used for a venue. The cafe is very small. That was ok, just a surprise when I expected to sit in a regular restaurant.

This is not a good place to take someone who is a meat and potato type person. It was hard to find something on the menu my Uncle would enjoy. We ordered him the meatloaf and he was surprised at the portion and thought that meatloaf served with BBQ sauce was odd. He loved the potatoes and couldn't finish the meal.

I ordered the roasted eggplant sandwich with goat cheese and fig jam. I thought it was delightful. I ordered a side of carrot and ginger soup which was equally enjoyable. We both had beer, I found my Uncle a Heineken and I ordered a Dogfish Head.

This place is a personal fit for me because it's impossible to find cold soups and artisan sandwiches where I am from. This would be a wonderful place to pick up a picnic to enjoy while having a bottle of wine at Horton Vineyard down the road.

It is a little pricey though and not for picky eaters.

My wife and I went here for lunch and came away satisfied, but a little lighter in the wallet then expected.

I see the previous reviewer got out of there for under $20 but if you're going to eat like most people do (sandwich or salad or soup, chips or bread or fruit, and a drink) it will cost you more than that. Most sandwiches (I also got the Cuban) are $9 (okay 8.95), as are the salads. My wife got the house salad with rosemary ham, an extra $1.30. I got a bag of chips for $1.70 and we both got iced tea, $1.50 each. So we got out for 22.75 with tax. So don't go expecting a cheap lunch and you'll be fine.

Now to the important part, the food. My sandwich was okay but I expect the meat to be sliced thick for a Cuban and this one had a couple thin slices of ham and a thin slice of pork. The cheese was perfect and pickle slices tasted fresh. It had yellow mustard, which is not what I expect on a Cuban, as it should be a spicier mustard but that isn't a deal breaker.

My wife's house salad had a Mediterranean feel with olives, artichokes, and feta. The dressing was a sun-dried tomato vinaigrette.

Overall, better than most in the area, not exceptional, but I would go back.

    Think Panera with panache.

Just a mile or so from the Barboursville Vineyard, this little gem is a great place for an inexpensive, yet sophisticated little lunch. A great selection of artisanal sandwiches, salads and soups. Also a great collection of wine, microbrewed beer and other unique beverages.  Top it all of with a cute patio and service with a smile.

I tried the Cuban sandwich and was not disappointed. My wife's cheddar and ale soup was out of this world. All for less than $20!
