Used to be our (roomates and i) bar of choice but I had to deal with a shit bouncer that was on a power trip. I'm 22 and been to the bar plenty times. He said my ID DIDNT look like me. He asked me to leave. I showed the card to the bartender and she said that it DID look like me but the bouncer had made up his mind. This is the first time this has ever happened anywhere. I walked home(2 blocks away) to grab other forms of ID. I walked back and showed him multiple cards. He just looked at me and said, "No...no." It was infuriating. Shame they cant hire decent bouncers. Wont be going back.... GRIF is amazing though, always chill.

The people that work here are incredibly rude. I called them to inquire about some information. First they hung up on me four times in a row after picking up. Then they said " I can't hear you" then hung up. If the bar is too noisy then don't even pick up the phone. What a dump.

Super divey bar in the middle of IV. Everything comes out of those cheap pre-mixed drink things, kinda gross, regular pricing.

The best place in Isla Vista to buy a drink.  I always go back for the great bartenders. Beau, Ali, Griff, and Tiffany and all phenomenal.  It is always a great time when they are working behind the bar. Definitely recommend going to the hall

Study hall used to be all right, local bar with decent space and clean bathrooms. The other night we went there for my friends 21st and had a terrible experience.

the bartender "bo" was extremely intoxicated. I thought people were supposed to be nice when they're drunk but not this dude. I tried ordering a shot of patron for my friend whose birthday it was and he called me "dumb" for not choosing a different type of alcohol. Then, he was extremely rude to my friend whose birthday it was, saying she owed him money and owed everyone else drinks that just bought some for her. He wasnt joking either, he was just a dick.

Afterwards, he sprayed/spilled alcohol, (by accident or on purpose i dont know) on this random girl, then was laughing about it and being a complete asshole. The girl went up to and told him he was the meanest bartender shed ever had. He ignored her then cranked up the music, turning it down only to say, "HEY ITS NOT UR BIRTHDAY IS IT?!" the girl ended up crying and leaving. I couldn't believe it. I thought bartenders were supposed to be nice not only to make tips but to bring back business. Ill prolly never go there again, and neither will any of my friends i was with.

For some reason, everytime I set foot into Isla Vista all I want to do is drink a beer, smoke a cigarette, and shit myself. Study Hall is a great place to get all of that started.

Plus, Mikey is an awesome bartender.

Small bar. Decent beer selection. Closed at midnight on a saturday which was pretty damn surprising since they are in IV.

I've been here twice. Both times have been pretty decent. Always fun watching a person take their special birthday shot between someone's legs. But after Monday night, I don't know if I'll experience this place again.

On Monday night, a couple of friends and I were at Dublin's, but we decided to check out Study Hall. However, I wasn't let in. The person manning the door wasn't the the usual person I see on weekends. He was more or less running back and forth preoccupied with something else. So it seemed like this wasn't his normal job, to check IDs. I'm 24, the oldest in my group of friends and I also possess one of CA's new driver's license.

He took a very long time to ID me and asked me to lift my bangs. If he was trained to do his job right, he'd have read the date of when the picture was taken which was in 2008, not that I look any different now so I still don't know what the problem was. He didn't test me at all; didn't ask for my birthdate, address or even zodiac sign. That's the usual when people want to make sure that it's you. Nope, not even that. Which really pissed me off. It was unfortunate that I didn't carry my atm card because he asked for that. All I needed was my cash and I never ran into a problem with my ID in Isla Vista. Embarrassment flooded me. He turned me away and my friends didn't want to go in without me, so we went back to Dublin's and spent our money there instead. Study Hall, you lost business because you didn't know how to check ID's. I tip well too, bummer.

Funny or not I didn't frequent this place until after I graduated and left UCSB.  It wasn't until I went to visit my sister did I get to enjoy a cold brewski and some bar grub.  Fun dive joint.

if i'm ever in santa barbara and need another football fix on a sunday morning and a beer, i'm going here. it's just off the UCSB campus, so it's probably a popular watering hole for the local kids. there was a couple handful of folks when i walked in to catch the game. my friend was doing a seminiar presentation thing for the students of color conference....but my packers were playing =)

the bartender was awesome. he did the funniest brian wilson entrance impression ever, he's a giants fan lol. fun crowd, there's food, decent bar. 10 buck minimum if you paying with plastic. have fun.

The memories here are as good as they come. Especially after having completed the 50 club a few years back. Dan and his crew are top notch. Very fun and make you feel at home. So sad this place got cut in half a couple years ago. Still love it. A little photo hunt and the best deal in town for Happy Hour burgers and chili dogs!

Definite fun!! I love the name - makes us feel as though we're being productive by entering a "Study Hall"... when all we're really doing is being counterproductive.

ANYWAYS, reality aside, the bartender made me a damn awesome long island. For sure one of the best I've had.

A girl came in for her birthday (it was also my friend's birthday when we went), claimed she was allergic to vodka, so I bought her a Scooby Snack. It was my first Scooby Snack as well, but they were yummy and almost too sweet.

I definitely want to come back - ya know, to legitimately get my study on....

The bartenders at Study Hall make the place my favorite bar in the world. They are smart, sociable, and make very strong drinks.

Everyone should participate in the 50 club spring quarter. One of my favorite college memories.

Overpriced... Small As shit... And always awesome to know the locals are the only 45+ yr olds in iv... Go to dublins: more tvs,  better prices and pool tables. And btw study hall doesn't serve Jack daniels

It's not much of a bar, but it's Isla Vista, but on the right night it can be wonderful...

As romantic firelight glowed on the mountains, and darkness reigned in Isla Vista (and most of Goleta for that matter), my lover and I searched for beer, that most sweet and soothing of beverages.  Finding the stores closed, we found the Study Hall alight with lanterns and flashlights.  In we went, cash in hand to purchase Guinness and Newcastle.  We sat together at the bar, regaling each other with past tales of glory from our misspent youth in Austin.  When news updates came on with where the fire currently burned, the bar went silent as though we were listening to the worst news that could be imagined.  In solidarity with our fellow alcoholics, we sipped silently.  The fire burned on.

The study hall in IV is my Mecca.  A holy place that I religiously make a trek to.  I can remember dozens of great times here.  And ive had at least twice that many experiences that I don't remember but have been told were even more amazing.
Anytime is a great time to drink here.  I've spent many a morning and early afternoon watching sports on their lovely  TVs.

Great bartenders, great drinks, great company.  The hall is the place to be in IV

For better or worse, the study hall and their 50 club changed my life, and that is deserving of 5 shining stars.

Ahhhh, good ol' Study Hall.  Every time I'm in IV and walk past this place, the old bar smell just brings me back to the amazing quarter that was Spring '07.

What's this place known for?  50 Club, which they do every Spring Quarter.  I was part of this ridiculousness last year.  The evidence of my alcoholism is on that plaque.  50 visits to this bar in about 75 days.  It's harder than you think, being such a lush.  But hey, with class 3 days a week and Graduation fastly approaching, I made the most of my last quarter.  Because of 50 Club, I had alcohol in my system almost every single day of the week.  What do you get if you succeed in this 50 day feat?  A party at the Study Hall downtown with an open bar.  Was it worth it?  Not really... but the memories were.

Well, the actual bar is small, cramped, and smelly.  It's perfectly fitting for Isla Vista.  It's just a bar with not much else.  But hey, it's a place to drink.

It's a good name for a college town bar - you can tell people you're going to study hall and they'll think you're actually smart!

This bar has a good atmosphere and the bartender was really friendly.  It's a small place that feels like a shady, hidden cave.  The inside is really comfortable, with lots of dark wood decorations, photos of the customers, and plaques on the wall for people who drank at this bar 50 times during one term (70 days).

There were a few too many sorority Isla Vista girls for my taste, but generally the people seemed cool.  Plus, I have to give it 4 stars because my boyfriend's name is on a plaque!

Back when I was in college...I went here all the time, and actually "studied", and by study, I mean sit on the back porch and drink pitchers of beer (Newcastle of course) while staring at my reader...my senior year, I made it into the "50 Visits" club, which as a tribute to my alcoholism is forever enshrined on a plaque there.  All I had to do was go 50 times in one quarter...which is 75 days...sounds easy, but that's a lot of drinking! Good thing I was up to it...

Since graduating and going back out there, it's apparently been halved in size (back to it's original size) and said back porch is also no longer there....but I'll always have my memories...

Look at the 50 Club from two years ago. Very middle, last row: X. Now it's a shadow of its former self. They were forced to cut the bar in half and it was never the same. Really made my college days fly by... Isla Vista deserves a class act bar. But don't worry, rumor has it that the IV Foot Patrol is out and new Study Hall is in. That would do it justice.
