We are locals and dine at Sue's multiple times a week, You can't find any other place in town with home cooked meals with such large portions for such a small price of $6. Mondays is my favorite day of the week-fried chicken day and Thursdays is my husbands favorite day-meatloaf. Try the lunch special, you won't be disappointed!

I figure there is really no point on Yelping about a place as obscure as Sue's Roost, but hey, I do not do Yelp for attention; I do Yelp as a way to journal my food thoughts, which are pretty much ALL of my thoughts.

This is definitely an eatery that all foodies should eventually find themselves dining at, but it is definitely  a "find" if you know what I mean. The mail deliverers in this town drive their own cars with a little flashing yellow light on top...

This was certainly not the best down home cookin' I have ever laid taste buds on, but the value, atmosphere, and people suckered me in. I love eating at places where the server knows what most of the diners want to drink, i.e. "I'll have your teas right out." I am a sucker for feel-good places; deal with it. I starved myself for 4 hours to have a feast here.

The lunch specials were $6, and we got every possible option. Fried chicken (2 pieces, dark meat), chicken fried steak, green beans, mashed potatoes, biscuits, boiled corn on the cob, and FRIED CORN ON THE COB. Have you ever had that? I, sadly, have never had it until today. The kernels taste battered, and the sweetness and greasiness work well together. Never thought I would comment on a simple corn knub, but this was pure Southern awesomeness.

The proteins and green beans were super salty; I had to drink water for the rest of my 9-hour driving day, but it was super worth it. The crust was not perfect on either, but I very much enjoyed the care put into both. The beef was tender, and the chicken was moist. The most likely canned green beans had a few flecks of bacon. The most likely boxed mashed potatoes were pretty mediocre, but nothing a touch of gravy would not solve.

Come get you some. Sue's Roost is a top notch, stick-to-your-ribs sort of Southern joint. If you ever find yourself heading over to the back country on I-20, this needs to be a Texas priority. Or you are not Texan. That is offensive to many, I know. Hopefully it entices you to go.

Awesomeness.  Great chicken fried steak as well as chocolate pie.
