This is a cool spot to hang out and have some drinks if you're in the area. Â The prices are super cheap no matter what you order and there's plenty of seating, including tables for larger groups. Â They even have skinny girl brand flavored vodkas in case you're trying to watch your calorie intake (and seeing as how you're probably going to be in a bathing suit at the beach, this might apply to you).
The issue I had with this place was the service. Â Our group was sitting at a table and it felt like FOREVER between the visits from our waiter. Â One member of our group kept going up to the bar and ordering drinks there instead of waiting for our server. Â
This is probably only a 3 star joint, but the night we went they were having quizzo and our team won so they get an extra star for that!!
The ambiance and decorations of the place are really good! The tiki hut decor makes me feel like I'm in Florida.
Our waiter was REALLY REALLY friendly! It must be good ol southern hospitality. :)
I had ordered the crab cake sandwich. Unfortunately the food wasn't parallel to the service. The patty was pretty skimpy. Maybe the patty was a 1/4 of an inch thick ? Ofcourse the bread was proportionately larger than the patty itself.
I recommend ordering something else.
This place was without a doubt the worst service, and the worst meal I have ever had in my life. Â
No one to greet our party of 8 when we entered. Â Server rolled his eyes at us when we asked about the menu.
Food took a very long time to get to us. Â The total experience was horrible, bad food, bad service. Sure to never return again.
It was a medioacre typical lunch menu. Â We ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries, an individual cheese pizza, buffalo chicken wrap, and a caesar salad with four sodas. Â They weren't awful nor spectacular. Â With the items above and it being in Corolla, my bill was an astounding $50 plus dollars. Â Crazy! Â I was better off going to Subways! Â We wanted to hit a local spot with no emphasis on seafood and hoped to hit a gem that should be introduced to DDD on Food Network. Â This was a definite miss.
Review Source:The food was very oilyj
We ordered fish and chips we had to search for the fish very hard. The menu give you 2 side orders with any main course but when u order fish and chips the chips is considered as your first side. The natchos were the worse i ever had. Â the only good thing was the service very friendly.
My absolute favorite restaurant in Corolla Light and vicinity. Everything here is delicious and they have VERY reasonably priced crab legs (which were to die for). The service was fantastic, the food was beyond delicious, and their cocktails are big! What more could you ask for on vacation?
Review Source:We were staying within walking distance of Sundogs while in North Carolina so we ended up there a lot...which makes this a slightly biased review.
Day one I went there for oysters and beers. We also had crab dip. All the food was excellent, the beer was just as the bar tender described, and the oysters were very fresh.
Day two the group stopped by because we thought there was karaoke...there wasn't but was a live band. The rest of the group thought it sounded like noise but I, who enjoy all music so stayed and enjoyed it.
Day three we came back for karaoke. DJ Face was excellent and everyone was having a great time. Again excellent beer and service.
Day four we finished there as we were headed back to NY. DJ Face was there but had a different DJ working for him. He was very good. Primarily electronic which but DJ Face had him spin a few hiphop beats for us.
The atmosphere is divey but the beer is great, very nice service, and good food.
We were a little apprehensive heading to Sundogs - the outside of the restaurant is a bit plain-jane, but what a transformation when entering! Â Lots of fun decor with a very island-like feel.
Sundogs has a pretty extensive menu and the food is great. Â I enjoyed the fish and chips - big delicious chunks of fish with crispy fries and tasty coleslaw. Â Very good! Â We also tried the fried oyster basket and sandwich - also very good.
Patrons can try the Sundog Challenge for a free t-shirt: a huge burger heaped with bacon, cheese and mushrooms served with chili-fries. Â Our friend tried (and finished!) the Suicide Wing Challenge. With tears streaming down his flushed face, he finished "six mind-blowin' hot wings" in 15 minutes. He might have regretted it the next day but his picture is now on the Wall of Flame!
The draft  beer selection is great.  Prices are a little steep, but we find that's a common thread at the beach.  Our server was awesome: super friendly, helpful and efficient. Overall a fun place. We'll definitely be back.
I've been coming to the OBX in Corolla for like 20 yrs and didn't know this place existed. Â All the storefronts look the same in the Food Lion plaza so I thought it was just another stupid surf shop or kite store. Â
I literally searched for a place like this my whole vacation to take my recently of age cousin to party and could not find anything. Â I even looked up nightlife on yelp and don't know how I missed this.
The very last day of the trip I saw a guy come out to smoke a cigarette and then popped back inside. Â DING DING DING People at BARS do that!
Following smoking man I drag my gf in and say "Oh my god, it's the holy grail. Â A tiki bar with a pool table, and karaoke."
Devastated that this was my last night at the beach I drowned my sorrows in a couple of their great beers on tap. Â Rogue and Dogfish Head! Â Seriously need it to be next year now so that I can go live it up there with whatever the "local/vacationers" scene looks like in Corolla.
I am imagining some heavily inebriated townies with tans and Reef snapbacks watching spoiled rich 19 yr old girls singing Poker Face by Lady Gaga.
Damn you for having tinted windows and being so well hidden in between a Dairy Queen and clothing store!
I've been here twice while down at the shore house. One was pre-summer season and the other was this past Memorial Day weekend.
Oddly enough, I had better service and drinks when it was MORE crowded for the holiday weekend. My best guess it that they "saved" the more skilled, attentive bar tenders for the busy season. Who knows.
It's within walking distance of the house so that's a plus, but it also has great music and isn't ever REALLY crowded like some of the spots at the Jersey Shore (my other beach bar comparison). If you're in the Outerbanks this summer head over and have a drink and bust a move! You'll enjoy it!
I found Sundogs to be a pretty mediocre joint. Â Service was averagely attentive, but providing a decent answer to simple questions like, "How kickin' is the kickin' crab dip?" seemed to be beyond his capability. Â The biggest bummer was the amount of flies that wanted to share our meal with us. Â The food was okay. Â My husband had a foot long chili cheese dog which he described as okay, nothing great. Â I had a pulled pork sandwich with tots. Â What's the deal with these places that hand you a nice piping hot pork sammy complete with a side of freezing cold bbq sauce? Â I think room temperature would be more appetizing, but maybe that's just me.
Review Source:We went here for my birthday with eight friends. Seven of us had normal meals while two took on the Sundogs Challenge. Due to the challenge being an overcooked burger and 3-4 helpings of chili cheese fries, neither of them won. My crab cakes were delicious. Their tater tots were tasty but their mac and cheese was not. Most importantly, the service was horrible. I think the $1 cans of PBR were the highlight of the night. Lastly, they are not accommodating to large parties and they refuse to do separate checks.
Review Source:We went to Sundogs for one reason only...karaoke. Â That's right, that was me with two of my girlfriends belting (OK screaming) the lyrics to Madonna's "Like a Prayer." Â Why do I give this place three stars? Â The bar is OK, nothing spectacular but the background music for karaoke flat out stunk. Â
The establishment seemed more like a local hangout, which isn't a bad thing. Â We saw several locals that waited on us earlier during the day. Â Sundogs was close to the house we rented. Â So if we rent in this area in the future, we'll probably return. Â In the meantime, get better music Sundogs!
How can I not review Sundogs? OBX has become one of my very favorite places. When I think of it, one of the places I think of is Sundogs. Food is overpriced and not great, but not bad either. The atmosphere is ok, lots of TVs. The crowd varies at different times of the day and obviously with seasons. I've been here several times, but never stayed for more than a couple drinks and maybe a bit to eat, but I have such a soft spot for this place. You gotta stop in the next time you're in the OBX.
Review Source:Not many bars in OBX that have appeal or character, but Sundogs is the exception. I would best describe it as a tiki bar, sports bar, and raw bar all mixed together. Food is good and they have a great offering of draft beers from local breweries. They have college banners hanging everywhere and they promise to hang yours if you bring them one. They also have this $30 burger challenge if your up for it. Can be a bit empty during the day but it does pick up at night by offering live bands, DJ, or themed party nights. I enjoy this place and recommend getting a Kona Longboard beer on tap even though it's from Hawaii. It's a great summer ale, which I cant get it in Chicago, so when I'm in the OBX I drink it like it's water. Enjoy
Review Source:Sundogs is one of the few bars in the Corolla area, and probably the biggest too. I'm still impressed by how many tvs they managed to pack into one bar space, and they have a massive flat screen on the far wall that apparently during the off season gets used mostly for playing video games. This seems like a big social hangout for people here, with live music and themed nights every day of the week, and they also have a pool table in back.
Servers here are really friendly and chill, and anyone they know gets really personal and attentive service, so if you're any kind of a regular you can rest assured that you'll be treated well. The food is pretty typical bar food, and because of the proximity to the ocean they actually have good seafood options. Sundogs is a no frills, laid back hangout for anyone - and who can beat a name like that?
My buddy had a the wedding party here the night before his big day and we were singing to the top of our lungs to classic karaoke tunes.
This place reminds me of a Margaritaville/Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant created by Jimmy Buffett. The beach theme was in full effect. Staff was super friendly and the beer was reasonably priced.
I didn't eat any food but did see the standard bar options.
