You all had me worried when you said dive bar. I was picturing a small dark room with the local drunk planted at the end of the bar, in a sketchy part of town. This place is in an artsy part of town, looks to be where the young trendy people hang out. There is a good mix of people here, college kids, older folks, and even some bikers (the real kind, not the weekend warrior type). Atmosphere is artsy, with beer bottle art in patio planters, and fresh flowers in patron bottles on every table.
The wait staff is nice and honest when asked about the food. I like to ask what they like and go from there. She said she loved the turkey melt so that is what my husband had, he said it was great. Good flavor. I was craving a burger, so I had the burger and fries. They were both good. Worth the seven min. drive off of I 20.
It has full bar, but we were driving for a few more hours so we didn't partake. It looked like a good selection.
Oh, Ruston. How I love your culinary delights.
Fried oyster po'boy was excellent! It's a great place to hang out on the patio and eat some traditional fried foods with friends. They have fantastic live music on the weekend, and it's just right downtown with good parking. I feel like we need more places like Sundown.
Sundown reminds me of the Sunset Tavern back home that I used to frequent and live nearby. It's got an indoor and outdoor area, serves food a little better than your standard bar food and has that rustic feel to it.
Service is shoddy- they are SUPER understaffed so our waitress only came to our table a couple times at the beginning and that was it, so I couldn't order a refill and couldn't order any food when I had finally decided what I wanted.
But this is the place to be and have a good time. It's usually packed on nights by people of all ages, even children drawing with sidewalk chalk on the patio.
It's a bit odd how you don't get a bill and tell them what you ordered on your way out- the honor system has me puzzled but it works as long as you don't forget to pay!
What a perfect little southern burger joint! Â It is great for sitting on the patio with a few friends, some drinks and the best homemade fries in Ruston!
The staff is typically beyond hospitable--I mean unless you're a whiney customer. Â
It is a really interesting mix between a hang out place for the boys to get beers (newcastle on tap!) and burgers and a snazzy, well decorated place for the girls to have wine and salads. Â
There is also a large patio that is perfect for parties. Â
I would absolutely recommend this to anyone passing through Ruston, LA.
Great dive bar!!! Â
I love my dives and this one was up to par! Â I really wish the patio had not been reserved for a private party...I'll have to check it out next time for sure.
Best part....they have strawberry stoli....and for about $6, I got a good pour of the vodka with tonic in a huge styrofoam cup!! Â I'm living in the big city these days and all I get for $6 is a teeny glass tumbler. Â Their glorious cup kept my drink cold....just the way I like it. Â They also have Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka...which makes me happy, but my liver not-so-much! Â Can't wait to go back and chill on the patio...and shut the place down....at midnight.
Ohhhh Sundown, my trusty go-to for a good time in Ruston. The food is decent, but definitely not the best in town. However it's great for those on a budget because nothing's expensive. There's nothing better than a late (Ruston late I should say haha) summer night on the patio drinking with friends.
The music there is always promising and like a poster before me  mentioned, the draft beer is always great.
This place is so cool, you'll forget you're in Ruston (until they make last call at 11:45 pm)!
Yes, due to its spatial confines within Ruston City proper, this dive bar serves good draft beer (which did include Abita Purple Haze) and eclectic live music acts 'til midnight (except on the Lord's day, of course). This bar is you're only real alternative to what you'd expect at a college bar near Louisiana Tech (not that there's anything wrong with it). It's also dog friendly in their sweet patio area in the back. The food is pretty good for a bar, too!
This is the best little dive bar in Ruston. Â This place has some good food and a fairly decent selection of beers! Â There always seems to be local live music being jammed from the main bar, but if you're there to socialize or just share some good stories with some good friends, take the drinks out to the patio and sit by the crazy fish fountain.
If you're in Ruston visiting a friend, take the party to Sundown. Â Won't find a better group of people anywhere in Ruston.
