Authentic Mexican food at reasonable price.  Don't be misled by the decor. It's about the food. Family owned and friendly. BYOB. This is where the local Mexicans go to eat. I'm a foodie and have spent time in Mexico. It's the real deal. Guac and chili rellenos are my favorites. Also try the torta Mexicano sandwich.

Taco Express & Deli. Hmmm, let's see, where to start. If you decide to try this fantastic "hole in wall" restaurant the best advice I can give is the old adage "Don't judge a book by it's cover". I say this just to get you in the door. You might show up and think you're at the wrong place when you see it from the street. Looks are very deceiving in this case. You walk into the entrance which is the "deli side", its kind of a convenience store. Then you turn the corner to find a little more than a handful of seatings on the restaurant side. Now why you should sit down and order away. GREAT FRESH AUTHENTIC FOOD!  Where to start? Can I just say thank god we didn't have to eat at the food pavilion at Woodbury Outlet Mall. Great Mole, Verde, and Roja sauces. Fresh home made tortillas, tacos and amazing enchiladas. Fresh Guac is a make or break for me so that was the first thing we ordered. The guacamole was excellent and so were the chips! Suffice to say all three of us loved our food including the... Wait... Wait for it... Get this "aged beef" , unreal. I mean really a can of coke for a dollar from a humble family owned restaurant that can destroy numerous Mexican restaurants. I talked to the owner and he is all about freshness and it shines through in their food. The owner says they get many repeat customers for the homemade Quesadillas that I hope to try in the future. Go support this place . Have a chile relleno and enjoy!

P.S. It's not some express taco bar with pre-made food like the name sounds. This is the real deal. Makes me want to go back to Woodbury to go shopping with the girls because I know they all want to eat here again. I'm one of those guys that doesn't really like to shop, so if that doesn't sell you not sure what will.

Best authentic Mexican your going to get in HV. A must stop! I thought I was in Cali after eating an enchilada.

This place is awesome. The food is so authentic and incredible tasting. The owner is a very nice man, and always has a smile on his face when he delivers to our house. This is the only place I will get my avocados and guacamole.  It's always fresh and delicious. Their tortilla chips are addicting. It may look a bit sketchy from the outside....which originally turned us off a bit, but once we went in and ate there we were fans for life.

The casual deli decor belies the charms of this family run business, so don't hesitate to stop in and check it out.  Five stars might sound like a lot for an unassuming deli, but Tacos Express has the best food in town and I've come to love the authentic atmosphere and colorful murals.

Most important: the food is excellent, and affordable.  The authentic taqueria menu is a treat, but everything on the dinner menu is also delicious.  Theses are real tacos--soft corn tortillas with a generous helping of meat, and onion and cilantro if you like, and well priced at $1.50 each.  The salsa verde is fresh and mild, but I particularly love the spicier red sauce.  The lengua is my favorite taco meat--so tender!--while my sweetheart loves the carnitas (which are a little fatty for me, but good carnitas are meant to be fatty).  There's also chicken and steak options, if you're so inclined.

I think they also have fried tacos with cheese and stuff, but I've never tried them.  The enchiladas and chiles rellenos are very good.  No greasy ground beef here: you'll find nice chunks of well-seasoned steak if you order beef in your burritos at Tacos Express..

The chicken soup is another standout; I rarely order soup from a restaurant, but the chicken soup is irresistible and as good as any soup I've made at home.  If you're new to mexican food, the chicken soup would be a great place to start.  However, when I introduce people to this place it's always the Tortas that get them: chicken or steak on a roll with avocado, lettuce, beans, peppers, and mayo, oh wow so tasty!  The menu says the steak or chicken is fried, but if you're worried about calories they will grill it for you.

Besides the restaurant, there is also a grocery in back with dry goods, Mexican products, and some fresh produce (ripe mangos and avocados).  They also sell some DVDs and music, and phone cards, but not beer or lotto.  This is very much a family-run place, and the owners have young children who often help out at the register or just sit quietly doing their homework, and so they are careful about the people they cater to--hence no beer or lotto.  This makes Tacos Express a safe and welcoming environment, and just the kind of small local business we want to support.

So, if you're a gringo like me, don't let all the Spanish on the posters (and, often, on the TV) throw you off or make you nervous; everyone working inside speaks English and will be happy to welcome you and guide you through the menu.  Step inside and check out the color murals and the artwork on the tables.  It's the best food in town, and it's always open (well, 10am-10pm, seven days a week).
