You couldn't get more no-thrills than Talley's Log Cabin.
Everything is served on little styrofoam plates. The menu only has a few things. Burgers, chicken sandwiches and some fried apps.
The onion rings really aren't very good, and the fried mushrooms taste like all of the fried mushrooms I've ever tasted which basically means they taste like nothing. Hot little spheres of exploding mushroom juice.
Service is friendly and attentive, and they have a huge outdoor patio if you're not interested in elbowing up at the bar inside.
What everyone comes for, beyond the alcohol and comradery is the burgers. As i've driven there on my visits, I haven't had much to drink but I can only imagine living in town and getting wasted at the bar. Those burgers would be the PERFECT ending to a night of drinking at Talley's.
You are provided all of the condiments in squeeze bottles and you better hurry up and get those toppings added before the burger melts into itself! It's served PIPING HOT right off the griddle, and the patty is huge and juicy. Only a few bites in and it becomes a hot mess.
So so good.
Pretty sure this review makes no difference since there's all of three restaurants in Lewiston...but here goes! Â They have good burgers, plain and simple. Â No, that's what the burgers are...plain and simple...in a good way!
The meat is great quality. Â It's just a nice, juicy, regular burger. Â Fries were pretty good and waitstaff was nice and friendly. Â Drinks are served in a can and food is served in a basket (which I hate...especially when it's a super messy burger)!
I feel as though I've said "burger" too much in this review so i'll just end it here. Â Just go there and try their b*****s!
The burgers are really good. The fried offerings are perfect accompaniments but I would skip the fries, they're pretty boring. The ranch potato wedges are much better. My friend ordered the marinated chicken sandwich and liked it Â
Three things I wish this place had that would make me choose five stars over four: jalapeño poppers, popcorn, and just one pale ale. Maybe Sierra Nevada or Bell's Two Hearted.
This is the best kept secret in Michigan. No burger will ever compare to Talley's. I've driven the 200 miles from Royal Oak to go get a burger, Maybe the lake had something to do with it too, but for me these burgers are an obsession. It's hard to beat a cold can of busch and a pile of grease on a Beautiful Michigan weekend.
Plus the Locals are great and the at home feel (and prices) always adds the extra star for atmosphere!
me and a friend were up in Lewiston for a dental hygiene meeting at Garland and were told we had to stop at Talley's before we went home.
it's a small, smokey bar that is literally a log cabin. it was a sunday afternoon and it was pretty slow except for the regulars at the bar, a family and some other 'tourists'.
the kitchen is very small and you can pretty much see your food being prepared.
there's not much of a menu and it's on the wall above the kitchen window. we got 2 talley burgers, fries and onion rings. the ranch was in a little container, not fresh or anything which was slightly disappointing with that but everything else was great.
the service was okay, the bar is small so the waitress could tell when you needed another beer, but they weren't overly friendly. she pretty much talked to the cook the entire time and smoked. but whatever.
everything is served in cans, even beer. so just ask what they have to drink, if you get too fancy they might give you a weird look.
the burgers were made by hand and were very thick and juicy. the burgers were huge and pretty hard to eat. i cut mine in half and it was still a problem for me. the burgers were also pretty greasy and the bun fell apart, so eat fast!
the bathroom is questionable, small and smelly.
it was definitely a unique experience and a good burger. if i'm ever in town again i would have to come back.
If you're looking for a small town bar experience when you're in northern Michigan this is where it ends. Talley's doesn't have menus or a drink list because everyone pretty much knows what they want when they walk in: a Talleyburger and a beer. The beer and pop are served in cans, and no, there aren't any fancy microbrews. It's a small bar, so sometimes you have to wait and you will because the burgers are that good.
Friday night is the local crowd and Saturday night brings in the people from the city who are up for the weekend. They have a DJ and a small dance floor. It gets pretty smoky in the wee hours.
Once you've had one, you'll crave a Talleyburger. You'll drive out of your way to stop there to fufill this need. You'll ask the owners to set up a satellite location near your home or office. You'll wonder what makes the burgers so darn good.
I know the secret: It's the logs.
You can't get these burgers anywhere else and the bar will always only be in one location so get going on that road trip! My standard order is a Talleyburger with cheese, no pickle, fries and a Pepsi...in a can. I'm thinking about it right now and want to get in my car...
