This little bar/restaurant (and its management... is a joke.

A group of us decided to stop in for some food and a couple of drinks after driving south from Kansas City to check out the corn maze down the road. Being with a friend who grew up in Louisburg, he suggested we eat dinner down there as well, so we opted to try out the new bar called The Tavern.

Upon our arrival, parking on the southside of the building - we were greeted by a man who apparently worked there (that we later found out was the manager/possible owner) who happened to be standing outside the kitchen door, smoking.

His greeting to us was - "Are you all 21?" to which we replied yes (as the youngest in the group was 25 maybe?) and he responded with "...All of you?" at which we were slightly taken aback.  He had promptly stereotyped us and made it known that he wasn't exactly happy to see customers or maybe just us... (I'm guessing partially as we apparently did not live there or just because we looked young - thank you for the complement).

We however shrugged it off and went around to the front door and went inside. To our amusement, there were at least six to ten children hanging out inside ranging from 7 up to about 15 years of age, with maybe four other adults. That was it - in the entire bar...Nobody else.  At this point we laughed - as this is, well... supposed to be a "bar".

We sat down at a couple of small tables acroos from one another and the one and only waitress came over and then mentioned that we could put together a couple of tables to better accomodate the total party of 10 people up by the window. We thanked her and all moved over. But before she did that - she made sure that she told everyone they needed to have their ID's out - (which we all expected based on our initial run-in outside) and we gathered them up.

The waitress disappeared for a while... and when she returned she a five minutes later, she started taking orders from the girls at one end of our table. But she only took theirs and disappeared again. Another five minutes pass and she finally returns and proceeded to tell the girls - "Nice try ladies" and informed them that all four of their IDs were invalid, but that her manager had run his own license to make sure it wasn't a mistake and that his worked just fine.

I'm sorry - if you didn't want customers, you should have just stated that when we pulled up - "Hey guys, we're closing early..." or something along those lines - rather than going through the trouble of lying to us. One of our girls even offered to let the bar manager call the police and ask them to run her ID because of how ludicrous the accusation was, but the waitress just said - "Well, you can just go down the street to the other bar..." So once the rest of us heard what had just transpired - we promptly got up and left.

I think that is the first time ever that ANY of us had been asked to leave a restaurant/bar simply because we wanted to sit down and eat dinner and maybe have a beer or two (legally).

Well, we did go down the street about two blocks to the Timber Creek Bar & Gril and we had a great time. They were happy to see us, happy to serve us, and between the 10 of us, we spent about $300.00 on food and drinks. No one got rowdy, no one was loud or obnoxious, and no one was asked to leave.

When we did leave Louisburg to drive back to Kansas City, we looked as we passed by and noticed that the Tavern was already closed and not a single light on in the place... at 11:30 pm on a Saturday night. And if you'll notice, their website and sign on the door says they stay open until 2:00 am on Saturday night.

We hope they don't plan on staying in business very long... because they are fast-tracking their way to bankruptcy by the way they treat potential customers.

So - if you're ever in Louisburg - be sure to check out Timber Creek Bar and Grill - they know how to run a bar and grill - especially in a small town!  They are nice, genuine, and know how to have fun. Unlike another place we now know and will forever stay away from...

    And here's their information:

This might have been the worst service I have ever received which is ironic because I was never served in the first place. My friends and I decided to check this place out after going to the corn maze and have a drink or two. As soon as I exited the car we were yelled at by someone who turned out to be the owner about if we were 21 (we ranged from 25-32) but we ignored it. We then sat down and tried to order drinks. The incredibly rude waitress then took four of our IDs and "scanned" them and told us they were invalid. Her exact words were "good try guys" and threw them back on the table. I was honestly flabbergasted and we then moved on to Timber Creek which was cheaper and has live music.

The Tavern is truly an awful place and everyone should go to Timber Creek instead.

DO NOT GO HERE (especially if you want to drink legally)!!
