doesn't anyone else find it odd this place shut down after 4 years of steady business after the owner was accused of sexually assaulting a female companion at the bar (when no one else was there) and he claims innocence? I guess they all claim to be innocent and that the woman "Wanted it" but time it's allegedly on camera and with allegations that he drugged her on one or more occasions with animal tranquilizers he kept in the bar as a vet tech. not sure the specifics like how this happened on more than one occasion but it's disturbing and I hope we get the truth. video footage doesn't lie, but he is also well connected in that small town.

We stopped for the "free tour" of the distillery, but the owner ("Doc Joe," reportedly a veterinarian) couldn't be bothered, so the waitress (Melissa) showed it to us.  She was very helpful, but it wasn't much of a tour because she obviously wasn't trained to do it.  A few minutes later, a regular customer came in and got into a conversation with Doc Joe about closing our borders.  The doctor started arguing (in an raised voice) that all we had to do to stop terrorism was to do away with borders and let people come and go as they please, and the terrorists wouldn't know where to attack us.

There were 3 groups in the bar, and we all looked at Doc Joe like he was crazy.  The "local" told him that didn't make any sense, and the bar owner yelled at him to get out of the bar and then went back to the distilling area.  The "local" left, as did the other 6 of us -- rather quickly.  We didn't feel safe, and it wasn't because of the patrons.  Never again will I set foot in that place.

On a personal note, I don't know how Melissa puts up with Doc Joe.  She tried to calm him down, but couldn't.  In spite of what appears to be a rather hostile work environment, Melissa treated us as if we were the only customer they'd ever had.  She must enjoy Ridgway, as she could manage any fine restaurant and do an amazing job.  As for "Doc Joe," he is now the running joke of our vacation.

Well it is that time again , another birthday ( in my forties) and a night with the family.  After dinner and before heading in for the night , my husband and I showed off the local distillery.  Trail Town Distillery or the Town Still as locals call, we came in from the cold and had a drink (or two).  If you haven't visited the Trail Town Still the property is quite charming, the old and the new atmosphere is warm and cosy. We weren't sure what to order , so the Joe the owner and Chris the bar staff gave us a few samples of the vodka, rum and coyote whisky,  and please note we were treated to some generous sampling.

My mother is a non drinker, so she had the homemade ginger ale  called the "Mule and Stormy", my father a hardcore vodka drinker had a special vodka punch.  My father mentioned the vodka was better than some of the Russian Vodkas, and made local is helping the Colorado economy.  I enjoyed the "Painted Lady" and while we were drinking we could see Joe the owner distilling some of the beverages and actually seeing them put the yummy stuff going into the bottles, which you can buy and take home. Which my father ended up buying a bottle of the vodka to take back to the front range.

If visiting Ridgway, Ouray, Telluride, you need to stop by this Distillery, Trail Town Still. You won't be disappointed! Or if don't have time than stop, relax and have a few drinks as they are strong and good, make sure you grab a bottle to go, you won't be disappointed.
