I don't like Mexican food, ever. Â My husband does, always. Â I thought the food here was very good, my husband did as well. Â The cabbage salsa they serve with the homemade chips was awesome (as were the chips), the salsa was almost inedible for us because it was so hot (and we like hot!). Â We ordered sour cream with it too cool it down and then it tasted great.
We were there on a Friday night and it took nearly 1 hour to get our food, when we were leaving the waitress told us that it wasn't really that busy and some nights the wait can be longer - so be warned. Â We tried to order the enchiladas verde as a previous reviewer mentioned, the waitress was apologetic and said it was as too busy to do that night but said they would definitely make it when it's not so busy. Â I would have come back anyways, but I will definitely go back to try those, maybe lunch - I'll bet they're amazing. Â
They serve several different flavours of margarita, and they were very good. Â Not like some of the watered down or super sweet ones we get in Canada. Â We shared an XL between us and it was perfect and so yummy. Â A great fish bowl size for about $16.50.
We were prepared for nasty bathrooms, they were bad when we first got there but by the time we left someone had cleaned them up. Â The decor is dated but it just seems to fit with the location just off the highway in Oroville.
Minus one star for not really deep frying the ice cream prior to serving (and the long wait). Â Perhaps they deep fry it and then freeze it but it is served freezing cold, not true deep fried ice cream which should be crispy and hot on the outside.
Our bill was around $50 including tip for the two of us, we thought it was a good value. Â Recommended and will return.
We've been going to Trino's for years. We never considered stopping in when we drove past because it really has no 'curb appeal'. We were desperate for our Mexican fix and bit the bullet. Boy were we surprised with the authentic Mexican cuisine. Trino's complimentary chips, salsa and cabbage salad are great to munch on while you peruse the extensive menu. Over the years we have had the fajitas, quesadillas, nachos, chimichangas, tacos, endhiladas, tamales, huraches, and much more and enjoyed it all.Try the pork enchilada with a Verde sauce (it's not on the menu but they will make it for you? It is to die for. The pork is stewed and just melts in your mouth. We are now reduced to just getting a taco or two and some beans so we can justify eating here more often.Mexican food is not waist line friendly! Trino makes everything on site except for an frozen dessert which we have never had room for. He sells his salsa if you need to take some home with you. On the down side the decor is dated. The bathrooms really need updating and the plastic table cloths and flowers  are just plain tacky. Be aware that Trino closes in the winter for a few months so it is wise to call ahead  December through April.
