Stopped for lunch while biking the Cannon Valley Trail with a friend.  He knew the place and rightly suggested it was worth a stop.  The decor is pleasant, with pictures from local history (which I actually always enjoy.)  Several tables were occupied, some with fellow cyclists and some probably locals.  We were there early afternoon on a Friday.

My friend had a custom turkey deli sandwich and I had the Roast Beef.  Both were on ciabatta rolls and came with the customary slaw, chips and pickle.  The sandwiches were certainly tasty, but nothing fancy.  Overall, the food was adequate and reasonably priced, but the best part was the ice cream.  Very yummy!

I would definitely stop in again when I'm on the trail.

Note that I checked "No" for outdoor seating, but there is a bench out front, under a big umbrella, that was great for finishing ice cream cones before hitting the trail.

The Trout Scream HAS reopened for the summer!  Its a very unique place for a homecooked bite to eat.  The ice cream is outstanding... The Almond Joy flavor is just plain killer good!

Sadly, the Trout Scream Cafe closed permanently in December 2012:(

I ski at Welch Village several times a week.  My friends and I decided to stop at this cafe one day after skiing.  We did not know they closed at like 2:00pm, so here we are walking in there 10 minutes before they close.  At first the lady in there seemed crabby, because she was about to close and go home, but it turned out she was very friendly and took our orders.  They stayed open just for us, it turned out 2 more groups of people walked in as well.  So it was profitable for them.  The food tasted great, I tell you nothing hits the spot like chicken soup and grilled cheese after a hard day skiing.  Prices were very reasonable too.  I encourage you to stop in and support small businesses like this.

Only had the ice cream, but it was well worth the 10 mile bike ride on the Cannon Valley Trail!  They have unique flavors.  I tried the cappuccino and the chocolate.  Both were amazing!  The cappuccino had bits of heavenly things in it and the chocolate was so dark it was almost black.  It said in the description it was made with cocoa from Africa.  They also had a cotton candy flavor which I'm told from from my sugar bug son that it tasted exactly like the real thing.

I plan on biking the trail again soon just so I can get more ice cream here!

My friends and I friggin loved this place.  We biked here from Cannon Falls (10 lovely miles along the nicely paved, flat Cannon Valley Trail), and took a little respite to grab a sandwich and some ice cream before heading back.

The cafe is cute and rustic, with just a few tables and small menu of sandwiches.  Maybe we were just really hungry from biking, but it was delicious.  I had the BBQ beef sandwich and home made chips.  One of my friends had the Reuben and said it was the best reuben she's ever eaten.  The tilapia and BLT sandwiches also got good reviews.

Mostly you NEED to come here for the ice cream.  The flavor options are amazing, the portions are generous, and the prices are recession friendly.  I got two half scoops (which was more like two full scoops) of the Mint Avalance (vanilla ice cream with crushed Thin Mint cookies and Andes candy pieces) and the Almond Joy (cocnut ice cream with liquid chocolate and coconut flakes).  Supremely happy with both these selections.  I sampled the Fat Elvis that a friend had ordered: banana ice cream with chunks of peanut butter and chocolate chips....orgasmic.  Heaps of Love (vanilla ice cream with oreo, cookie dough, and other goodies) was also a big winner amongst our crew.  I think I love this place even more than Sebastian Joe's!  It's probably for the best they are located an hour away or I'd have serious anguish over which joint to patron....even at an hour away on a not so busy day, this is gonna be a tough call.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS.  They do have an ATM nearby, but wanted to share this very important fact.

Trout Scream Cafe is a great place to stop after a day of tubing down the Cannon River. The cafe is located in a historic bank building and serves up a variety of delicious, creamy ice cream that is the perfect treat after a day in the sun.

The cafe also serves sandwiches and burgers, but I have only stopped in for their ice cream. The Zanzibar Chocolate and Heaps of Love are excellent choices. The Heaps of Love is packed with caramel, oreo cookies,  and cookie dough.
