Visiting friends in Crawford over the last two days, Vagabond was recommended to us, and was conveniently just up the street from our charming hotel, The Stone House Inn. This is a small restaurant with pretty flat ambiance. Don't let that bother you though as you first step into the place. The food was wonderful. The owner/chef, Dick Berardi, has a long history of providing delicious cuisine, including Berardis that I remember from thirty years ago on Blake Street in downtown Denver before the area came to be known as Lodo. Although the menu wasn't very extensive, the specials the two nights we ate there included a wonderful salmon in red cream sauce, two gumbo dishes, an 8oz. sirloin, and several other dishes. Priced very reasonably for the quality of food served--I believe my entre was less than $20--the experience was very satisfying. I'd recommend the Vagabond to anyone who finds themselves down that way. Even if your visit takes you to Paonia, Delta, Hotchkiss or Crawford, I don't believe the Vagabond can be beat in any of those towns.
