They redid the outside and the upper part where the bar area is...looks nice. However, the downstairs where the pool tables are, most times the floor is a bit nasty. A lot of times the place smells like smoke because they still allow people to smoke in there...and make a profit from it.
Food is decent. Pretty much the same things everyone has in that general area.
Not a very good place to go to in the night hours if you don't want to deal with a bunch of drama and stupidity. It's also pretty pricey for some stuff in there. 1 Shot of Jager is $5.00....and the owner raises it all a quarter on fridays when he has a band in there...blocking off the main doors.
Established in 1840, this is by far the oldest bar I have been to so far.
The front area did not look anything like a bar at all, more like a snack shop. But it served a limited supply of beer and liquor, along with friend walleye sandwiches and other bar food. Hidden away in the back was a much larger room with three pool tables and several booths. The Village Tavern hosts area pool leagues.
Since I'm reviewing it as a bar, I'm giving it 2 stars due to atmosphere. Â I didn't try the food, it may have been good.
