Shrimp n grits here were really good. I had a nice glass of cabernet blanc to go with it.  This place seemed expensive to me, but probably because it's all touristy and stuff.  It's very nice, overall.

Expert server. The restaurant was a well oiled machine. The food was perfection!
Mussels, warm goat cheese salad with beets and shrimp and grits. Yum!

Big dinner with friends here.  Wasn't quite up to the hype in my opinion.  Nothing bad, but overall consistent with my experience that Beaver Creek restaurants are graded on a very generous curve.

Great place in Avon.  I've eaten here a few times now and its always good.  Last time my wife and I shared a few small plates.  The highlights were the beet and goat cheese salad, the veal sweetbreads and the scallops.

We really enjoyed our meal at Vin48.  We had four items between us and all were great.  Our favorite was the wild mushrooms with potato cake - yum.  The menu is filled with many options - I really love it.  There seems to be something for everyone, except maybe vegetarians.  The wine list is also extensive and varied.  There were plenty we knew and loved, but we found the pricing to be just OK.  Certainly not bad for the area where 3x retail seems to be the norm, but not a lot of deals. We were hoping that a place known as a wine destination would provide better value, but maybe that's impossible in a ski town.  But as I said, the selection is fantastic.
We sat in the bar area where the music was pretty loud.  We didn't mind at all, but it's definitely not for everyone.  I'm not sure of the volume in the dining room - hopefully it's a lot lower. The modern, "urban" atmosphere is a welcome addition to the area's lineup. We would definitely return and recommend it to others.

Since this is my 100th review, I thought long and hard of our most memorable culinary experience & Vin 48 in Vail,Colorado is a restaurant that we always talk about how fantastic it was.

Hubby and I are big Foodies and for our 13th Anniversary we did a trip to the Food & Wine Festival in Aspen. It's' a long drive from Denver to Aspen,so we stayed overnight in Avon(Vail area)CO.
After a long flight and car drive, we checked into The Marriott & walked to the nearest restaurant that caught our eye. Low and behold we walk into a cool & trendy Wine Bar in Avon called VIN 48!

Service was fast and friendly and our waiter was personable. We mentioned it was our anniversary & he told us the amazing Happy hour specials- $5 wines by the glass, $8 appetizers and 1/2 off entree specials!

Now you ask why is it called VIN 48?? Well for the locals Vin 48 means certain nights you get 48% Wine bottles!
We were in Wine Bar Heaven & ordering a bottle or 2! Cheehoo!

We saw several dishes on the menu that would be showcased in shows like Top Chef & since we were on our way to a 3 day Culinary event  we said what the heck, when in Rome do what the Romans do & go all out!

We started off with an Olive plate, Pate and Hummus & Flatbread-
Olives were amazing in a garlic-rosemary infused oil, and hummus was so smooth & creamy.

On to the wine to wash it down!
They have a great wine list but we were a bit overwhelmed, so our waiter offered to send over their Sommelier. Wow! How cool is that?!
He came over, was nice & knowledgeble, even offered a few tastings.
We had a few glasses of a nice white that were normally $12, but were on Happy Hour for $5 & he picked out a bottle of Red (1/2 off!) for dinner.

    Now the palate experince begins..

Small plates- (Reg. $10-$14) $8  Happy Hour
    -  Bison Salad, Foie Gras and Pork Belly (Yup,Pork Belly!)
    -  Salad- Hearts of Palm Salad (never had before) with a wonderful Oriental dressing.. AMAZING! The texture and flavors.. wow! We now look for any Hearts of Palm salads wherever we go!
    -  Pork Belly- Oh my! Oh so succulent! Perfectly braised and crunchy on one side and just melted in your mouth. It came on a creamy bed of what we thought was Mashed potoatoes, but instead was a little sea of  buttery, truffle-flavored Cauliflower yumminess!
    -  Foie Gras- Can Fried Duck fat be anymore decadent? We should've had it for dessert , it was so rich!

Woo! You would think we would be stuffed by now, but our eyes & mouth were wanting more!
    On to our 3rd Course-
Our Sommelier had opened our bottle of Red to breath while we had appetizers & came back ready for the pouring. His timing was impeccable!
    -  Seared Scallops,Seared Duck Breast & Greek Yogurt Marinated Lamb Loin-
    - The scallops were on the small plate menu, but for $8 you got 5 perfectly seared scallops sitting on a Yuzu, lavender oil puree with crispy little shallots like onion rings. Looks like an entree to me!
    - Hubby ordered Lamb Loin, came on the bone & he looked like King Henry enjoying a Greek style dish. He motioned a Thumbs up since his mouth was full of lamb and fried chick peas, LOL.
    - I ordered the Duck which was incredible! Crispy with a red wine demi sauce & escargot & kale sides, who eats like this but a Queen!

    - 4th Course -What you say, it's not dessert?!
Well as I mentioned we were to attend the Food & Wine Festival with the likes of Giada, Tom Collichio, Gayle Simmons, Emeril & Ming Tsai ... so when we saw Sweet Cheeks (Sweet bread) on the menu we HAD to try it!.
Now contrary to it's name, it's not a sweet but savory-rich dish. Sweetbreads are the glands or pancreas of the lamb. And YES, it was truly a mouth-watering dish that one has to try if it's on the menu.
This was the beginning of an amazing anniversary!

As we downed the last glasses of Red our Sommelier (point que once again) offered a few more wine suggestions, and at 1/2 off... WHY NOT?
    5th Course-Finally dessert!
Hands down, we agreed on the Creme Brulee. Being Colorado, alot of their dishes were infused with Lavender including their Orange-honey Brulee. It really is a nice light fragrant taste to any dish.

During the time we were having a nice, romantic culinary dinner, we looked outside to the patio over-looking the Rockies and it was hopping and happening with beautiful people outside sipping on their Happy Hour drinks.

We thought about joining them, but we were having such a great time, we ordered 2 heated Amarettos to savor and wind down the evening & asked to take the rest of the red wine bottle along with a scallop, sweetbread, mashed cauliflower, 1 bite of duck breast & lamb to go (Gotta love Midnight snacks!!)
Sorry to say there wasn't a drop of Creme Brulee left *wink*

When the check came, to our surprise our waiter comped us dessert & our entire bill (including 2 bottles of wine) came to under $110!
This was truly one of the best places in the US & a must try!

TIP - You'll dine in a fine dining experience but can dress casual or trendy.

    Ambiance: Great
Wine list: Outstanding with excellent and friendly sommelier (Kevin)
    Food: Great
    Service: Excellent

Not much to add besides this being my favorite place when visiting Avon-Beaver Creek-Vail area. Love it! There is only one dish I didn't like and that was goat cheese with an orange truffle dressing; mainly because I don't care for the combination of goat cheese (which I love) and truffle (which I don't care for, especially not with goat cheese). The rest ranges from good to excellent. Love this place and staff!

Went to Vin 48 last night as a last minute option for New Years Eve. I have been there before and have had reasonably good results in the past......This time "Not so Much"!

We arrived at 8:20pm and proceeded to the bar where we found two spots available. The bar tender gave us a few menus, first two where their usual drink and dinner menus, the third a five course sampler menu that they had prepared for New Year's. There was also an option for wine and champagne pairing on the sampler menu. I should have asked at the time, but there was not a price on the sampler menu.

Our decision was to split the 5 course sampler with 2 drink pairings plus one extra appetizer which was ordered from the regular menu.

First course was okay, caviar was fresh but the serving size was dwarfed by the pancake size bellini's

Second course was awful, a duck pate in no way looked or tasted like it should. It appeared to be just recently unfrozen and had more of a smokey tart flavor rather than a traditional pate. Needed a knife to cut through it. Not a deal killer, just figured we would just move on to the next course.

Third course was okay, I guess. Suppose to be a lobster medley, but was mainly mushrooms and gravy.

Fourth course was a dry rubbed/aged NY strip. Very tough and full of grissle. It was served over a whopping scoop of hummus which really didn't jive with the meat.

Neither of us are desert people so we skipped the fifth course.

Upon asking for the bill the bar tender sneaked the tap back and faded away......for good reason. I had a couple surprises to discover. The drink pairings came to $150 for both of us. One glass of bad champagne, one glass of average white and one glass of okay red each and no mention of the price until we received the bill.

Second ugly surprise was a NYE 2nd seating charge of $150. ( stands for New Years Eve) Really? We sat ourselves at the bar having no idea of this miscellaneous charge. Not sure if they had posted it somewhere in the restaurant, but I was blown away. This is the most misleading underhanded up charge I have ever encountered in my 41 years! I don't mind paying for space and service, but $150 to sit at a bar at a 3 star (at best) restaurant is ridiculous. At the very least the bar tender could have mentioned that " the meter was running" when we sat down. This in my opinion is truly an unforgivable act.

Plus just to throw a little salt on the wounds, I had asked for an olive plate earlier in the evening which we never got and was still charged for it.

I understand restaurants must depend on important evenings like New Years to make their margin, but to totally conceal their policies, provide less than average product and then over charge customer is just simply wrong.

I have observed the ownership and management of this establishment on previous evenings perform to less than industry standards. But in a small tourist town like Avon Colorado you have to let some things go. I must say, this experience has pushed me too far.

I can assure you that myself and everyone I have spoken to and will speak to about this incident will never frequent this establishment again. I am in the fortunate position to direct many of the locals and visitors to our valley as to where and where not to dine. Vin 48 will surely top my list as a place to avoid.

My impression is that confronting the ownership will not yield any positive results, so my best action is to simply move on. My $400 mistake is a lesson learned and will not be repeated.

I hope this review helps others in the future avoid the fleecing that we suffered.

This is our 4th time to this place and we are always happy.  The bar is great and the service is excellent.  .

Last night we returned to Vin and unfortunately there was a obnoxiously potty mouthed group to two couples- in which the women were  worse than the guys!

Anyway, the Bartender apologized adn reseated us next to the kitchen prep area- which was entertaining in its own right.  Being Chopped and Food channel junkies, we  watched the food prep and were pleased with the way things were being done.

We ate there and our meals were great.   This place should be  a standard for anyone that wants a great Bar selection and a tasty meal in a venue that is clean and well run.

Wow, we love this place.  LOVE this place.  While we are from out of town, and don't get to go here as often as we would like, the times we have been there have been exceptional and memorable.

First off, the bad.  There was one time we went there, the bar area was full, and we got a table outside.  Our waiter was spacey, had very little information about the menu, and was unenjoyable.  Strangely our night got better when the weather got worse.  It got to bad to sit outside, and a table opened up in the bar area, where our night got much better.

Every time we have eat in the bar area, the service that we have received has been fantastic.  Even when the place is slammed, the service we received was mellow, attentive, and informative.

The selection is fantastic.  While they specialize in wine, their beer and spirit selection is quite extraordinary as well.  The wines by the glass are spectacular.  Wines that I have never seen by the glass before.  You do pay for them, but its rare to get to try an amazing glass of wine that would normally be in the hundreds of dollars for a bottle.

Ever food item that we have had, has also been exquisite.  Of the many memorable items that we have had there, such as mussels and scallops, by far the top of the list was a pecan wood plank tenderloin.  It just may have been the single best steak that I have ever had.

Do yourself a favor, check this place out, and if you can sit in the bar, even better.

Great happy hour and friendly bartenders and servers.  A little pricey with small portions.  Some dishes I feel like chef is trying too hard, trying to do too much and loosing the essence of the dish. Palisade peaches with ranch dressing and bacon, really?  Would have been happier with sliced peach on a plate.
Most of the time the food is good and creative.  Excellent wine list as well.

Oh we loved it. Went to Vin for Happy Hour.  $5 wine and $8 small plates.  Sat in the bar and the service provided by the bartender was spot on.  The wine was good and the food was better.  Be sure to try the Mussels and the Gulf Shrimp.

We had great wine to start, at 40% off...not a bad way to begin an evening. Our party of 4 also appreciated the sleek decor and the views of the mountains the garage style doors afforded.

I had grilled chicken. It was cooked perfectly, though a little on the cold side. I felt that the seasoning and the touch of sweetness were unexpected and made up a bit for the temp. Chicken came with asparagus and potatoes, which were both also delectable.

Had the pound cake for dessert but also sampled the creme brûlée and the chocolate dessert. Definitely go for the chocolate. Mmmm...I am still thinking about it a day later.

Bill came to about $200 with tip for 4. Not a bad price for tasty food, but I am going to agree with a previous reviewer who noted the dishes were delectable, but not notable or unique in any particular way.

Great daily happy hour. The ahi tuna sliders were fresh and the sauce was very tasty.
Excellent wine choice for $5.00 per glass for happy hour. Friendly service at the bar.

    Will go again!

Every year when we go skiing we head to Vin for a nice tapas dinner and wine.

The happy hour has some amazing prices and the staff is always friends. We like to sit at the bar since it is a more personable experience so I am not sure about sitting at a table but I have never gone wrong at the bar.

It can get semi-crowded after apre ski but if you hit the tail end of happy hour it works out perfect!

Vin 48 gets 5 stars because of their attentive service. We were visiting Beaver Creek over Thanksgiving weekend and got in during the day.. didn't make reservations, just walked in on Thanksgiving night. When I asked if we could sit in another part of the restaurant, they immediately accommodated us, even though the restaurant was busy! This is 5 star service - surprisingly rare even at the best restaurants.

Food was 4.5 We had small plates of sauteed sea scallops and beef tongue potstickers to start - melted in my mouth! So delicious! We also tried the ahi tuna tartare sliders - to die for! My only complaint is that the four cheese ravioli came with a thin soup sauce that was lukewarm.

For dinner we had their Thanksgiving special chicken and pecan wood smoked beef tenderloin which were both mouth watering.

We also had a bottle of wine. Our server was very attentive and got us the best fit for wine. Ambiance is a solid 5 stars. Dim, warm lights and a luxurious beaver - creek - feel all the way. I wish we had a Vin 48 in Michigan - will definitely come back.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in the Vail valley. To be quite frank, most of the restaurants in the valley are overpriced for mid-quality food. Vin 48 changes their menu almost monthly. They have options for small plates and large plates. Each dish is beautifully prepared with great local food options. I have been here over 15 times, and only once was I not thrilled. During the off season, they have great specials on wine and food. As I read the other reviews, people are giving 1 star because they had great food and great service but they got sat next to someone the don't like??! Really, this place is amazing and if you get sat next to someone you don't like, tell the server and they will gladly help

Vin 48 is excellent.  The food is tremendous and very creative, the atmosphere is modern and funky, the wait staff is friendly and very on top of it, and the wine selection is ridiculously good. And everything is priced reasonably well, even being in the Vail Valley. If you're ever in the area and are headed out for dinner, Vin 48 is a solid bet.

My wife and I are on our honeymoon and some of the food we've had has been lackluster. This was recommended to us by a local business owner, and it well deserved the recommendation.

Our waitress was incredibly polite and helped us choice from the impressive selection of wine. We gave very vague descriptions of what we liked and she managed to pair our choice perfectly with our order. The wife had the striped bass with potatoes and asparagus with a Bearnaise creme sauce. I ordered the pork cheeks with guacamole served over grits. We both thought our order was better than the other.

For dessert I had the carrot cake and she the raspberry creme brulee. The carrot cake was just carrot cake, but the rum sauce was phenomenal. She absolutely loved the creme brulee.

Of all the touristy places located in Avon, this place has been our favorite by a long shot.

Also, to address some of the gripes with the other reviews, I would avoid the "small plates" and "snacks." From what I've heard they're nothing to write Yelp about.

The restaurant and the concept is pretty solid.  A few missing things that keep it from being top notch.

Just by looking at the name, you immediately think of wine, and a lot of it.  They have a pretty large selection of good wines by the glass and by the bottle.  A few new experiences and unexpected ones as well.  My friend and I had the Malbec which was a nicely balanced red wine..  Afterwards, I had the bubbly Lambrusco, a semi-dry with with a nice fruity finish.  It has a lingering pear finish which is quite nice near the end or at the beginning of your meal.

The food was good, not great because I think they forgot to include salt anywhere there is food.  I saw it on the counter, and I'm pretty sure it was behind the line, just not on the food.  Everything was terribly bland and needed a lot of assistance.  Salting the food would have done no good since the industrial sea salt grinder wouldn't have made the experience any better, you would have had to mash it in to fully incorporate it.

We tried the Octopus Terrine, the Grilled Octopus Salad, the Beef Sliders, Scallops with Red Onion Puree, and the Pork Cheeks

The Octopus Terrine while a great idea, had too much orange, it was octopus with an Orange Julius sauce around the plate.  Think about drenching your food with Tang flavored aioli, it got wierd after a while.  Separate from that, it was a touch too smoky.

The Grilled Octopus salad was nicer compared to the terrine.  The large tentacles were tender, and more flavorful.  The grill maks definately helped to enhance the experience and added a nice contract when consumed with the malbec wine.

The Beef Sliders were nothing new.  The cheese sauce reminded me of a marriage between Cheeze Whiz and Velveeta with a ring of jalapeno in the middle.  It came with a good amount of truffled fries, and for a small plate, it was the best deal of the night.  The fries had good flavor, but was a bit soggy by the time it got to the table.  Did I mention we were one of the first ones there that ordered that night?

The Seared Scallops with Red Onion Puree, Crispy Shallots (I think) and Chive Butter were great, perhaps the best part of the meal.  I truly enjoyed this one and would be happy to bathe myself in any of the components used for this dish.  I would gladly replace any other part of my meal for these scallops.  DELISH!

The Pork Cheeks were quite interesting, on one hand, the entire dish suffered from lack of seasoning yet again, on the other, the grits had good overall flavor and the cheeks were incredibly tender.  It's hard not to like this dish, but it's hard to make it  favorite because of the repeated flaws throughout the meal.

The service was nothing extraordinary.  It wasn't bad though, and our server had a touch of humor and cat like reflexes. He almost spilled a champagne glass on my friend and caught it by the stem without spilling much.  Very impressive.

All in all, I would recommend this restaurant for at least a single visit.  Find your favorites and come back for round two.  It's not a winner in all aspects, but I wouldn't mind stopping by to try a few more wines every now and again.

The overall meal was a bit pricey for the type of food/service I received so it's hard to say if it's a good value for locals or not.

My dessert was one of the best I've ever had - Lemon Mascarpone Parfait.  So light, not too sweet with a pinapple salsa on top of an almond cookie.  The pastry chef there is amazing.

When we sat down they gave us some bread with some dipping sauces - these sauces were also amazing - a sesame/soy type sauce was my favorite.

My entree, however, wasn't that great....it sounded so awesome - colorado bass with mussels, rock shrimp, fried oyster in a saffron broth on forbidden rice.  The rice was very flavorful, but the mussels were only so/so - same with the bass...the fried oyster was downright nasty - I think mostly because of the crust on it...it was the texture of hard sand and had no flavor.

I'd go back for the dessert though!

Vin48 is a great spot in Avon for anyone looking for food that is above the normal burger and beer spots.  I really appreciated their use of local ingredients in their cooking (1 star).  The menu is set up perfectly for sharing and I recommend concentrating on the small plate side of the menu with a couple of entrees thrown in.  sweet bread w/handmade gnocchi was tasty as well as the tuna tartare (1 star).  the "unhealthy" side of me really liked little touches like fried duck skin thrown in the duck confit fries...dirty!  the pork cheek entree was super tender and the portion was healthy.  Prices were fair...$12 avg. for a small plate...$20 avg for an entree (1 star).  Service was great...they treated my party of 6 as family (1 star).

Nice selection of wine and a nice bar scene if you're looking for something less formal.

thanks Vin48 for a great dinner experience!

Okay...I am giving Vin 48 three stars because in the grand scheme of EXCELLENT restaurants, they get a three.  The ambiance and service are great.  The food execution is average.  The duck confit sliders were a bit salty.  The 24-hour oxtail pot pie was not as tender as I would've expected from something that supposedly stewed for 24 hours.  One diner in our party commented that the food is good, but there was no depth.  I concur.
However, I must applaud this restaurant for trying to stay local with the produce and meats.

This place was nothing short of amazing. Delicious food which was absolutely not your run of the mill selection , extremely well priced, and quite the wine selection to boot. If you are making a trip to beaver creek, or even Vail, I highly recommend making this as a dining must. (Try the rabbit and the cheese grits!). Most things are set up as a tapas style small plate. So the bigger the group, the more you get to try.

Some dishes here are really good, and some- well a little overrated.
If you order the duck sliders, it is a great value for such a big portion(although my friends said they were way salty).  A few other small plates were def SMALL.  Scallops tasty, wine list phenomonal, frites yum.  The veggie small plate turned out to be fried(wish that had been mentioned to us!) so unimpressed with that one.  The ravioli small plate good also, but maybe they could throw in one or two of those tiny babies!!

They had interesting and original enough small plates.  Not necessarily a good value unless you play your cards right and ask the server.

Came back to Vin48 on our annual BC trip, and again VERY happy with the meal we had.

6 adults and 2 toddlers were conveniently seated in the small dining area behind the glass wine showcase, which ended up being basically a private dining room for us since we ate fairly early before the crowd arrived.

With a large group we pretty much ordered one of each small/large plate on the menu, including potato/leek ravioli, tartare, mussels, smoked pork belly, duck confit sliders, beef tenderloin, and the special, which was rabbit served 3 ways.

Everything was delicious, and there was nothing left on any plate, but most memorable were the seared smoked pork belly and duck confit sliders.  OMG!!  Seared crispy on the outside, and melt in your mouth fatty in the middle, with a deep smoky flavor.  It's basically seared slab bacon cooked to perfection!!  Duck Confit sliders were served with fresh thinly sliced pickles, which balanced the fatty, succulent duck perfectly.  Did I mention they are served with DUCK FAT FRIES?  OMG again!  I am not kidding when i say I actually had dreams about the seared pork belly.

A few days later we went back again for a quick snack after a day of snowboarding.   All small plates are only $8 or less during happy hour.  Duck confit sliders with fries for only $8 is a much better deal than any fast food restaurant combo meal!  The best thing was: after the full day of snowboarding, i didn't even feel guilty about having pork belly!!

Well where do we start, here we are sitting in a competing restaurant after a failed attempt at a decent meal.
So we had decent drinks (after sending back their Special 48 that tasted a bit like break fluid) and ordered the duck confit sliders. Wow, the salt content was higher than the dead sea of Israel. The pumpkin soup (with the goat cheese ravioli swimming in it was quite mediocre as well)
The service was good, ambiance decent but a few of our friends who live locally have advised us that this place is "hit or miss" well tonight was a total miss ;))
So save the time and your dough, choose a place that is more consistent.
Cheers!!! (the Passion Cosmo was good actually)

I'm not sure how this place stays open, given what a value it is. Great food and wine at surprisingly reasonable prices, and that's even if you don't get there in time for happy hour. Maybe that's the difference between Avon and Vail?

I was impressed how the small plates actually had almost regular-size portions. Try finding that at a "small plate" place in the SF Bay Area!

Service was nice and the space is surprisingly comfy for a dull-looking building bordering a parking lot. Vin 48, especially for those of us staying anywhere within walking distance of it, is a godsend.

I recently took my first trip to Beaver Creek for a ski weekend with some friends that were from out of state.  None of us had ever been to Avon so we had no idea where to eat for a nice dinner.  After reading the reviews for Vin48, we thought we'd give it a try....boy were we disappointed;-(  The wait staff was rude and incompetent, it was louder than Black Eyes Peas Concert,  and the food was just OK. My dish (salmon, fennel salad, and garlic mashed potatos drizzles wih a lemon butter cream sauce) was by far the best and it wasn't great, especially for the price! My daughter and her friend ordered the crab fetuccini and the portion was so small I'm pretty sure they ate it in 3 bites.  They both wanted to order more because they were so hungry!

I think everyone agreed that gelato was the best tasting and most afordable item we ate all night.

I'm almost certain that our waiter stoned because he brought our bill to the table and it was for an obsurd amount. When we questioned him he said "oops that was my other table".  Holy hell it was for like $300....and you know that first charge gets held onto your credit card....I mean really...not eveyone is a millionair that visits the town, some of us are poor folk just trying to have a nice meal.

Needless to say...I will not be returing to Vin48 anytime soon.

The maitre'd was standoffish. The place filled up quickly. I liked the bread and the condiments provided. I got the asparagus soup with shrimp, which was one large prawn, but it was yummy. My friends got the arugula salad and they liked it. Chicken tortellini with apple smoked plate was divine according to my friend. I got the crab fettucine with lemon. It was ok. I also got the lambrusco which was a white wine. Overall an ok experience. Service was slow. Took forever for our entree to arrive.  Would recommend not going here..  Overpriced too.

OK.. update.. knocking it down to one now because as my friend told me today:  That crappy restaurant VIN charged me 3 times, different amounts. I am guessing they are trying to charge your two meals on my card. Jerks, I have to wait until the charges go through to dispute it they are pending still, so check your credit card.  Lovely..

As far as restaurants in Avon, CO  go Vin 48 surpassed my expectations and left me happily satisfied.

We started the evening with their clos la coutale Malbec. very reasonable in price, and was a surprisingly very nice and well constructed blend.

We were served tasty breads with 3 dipping sauce options, all rich in flavor. Went on to have the PEI mussels - made with homemade house chorizo, oven dried tomatoes, garlic, chili flake, white wine, grilled focaccia - INCREDIBLE.

I then had the seared sea scallops - served with forbidden rice, sauteed vegetables, cashews, ginger butter sauce - for a scallop "snob" i found these exceptional as well. My father and dining companion had the sage gnocchi - with veal meatballs, butternut squash, pecorino  - which he thoroughly enjoyed -- the gnocchi was light and well made.

Overall  - i would both recommend this restaurant and go back in a heart beat.
Fun atmosphere for nearly any occasion.

The world's best carrot cake can be found here. Seriously.

I really enjoyed this place.  Went for dinner on a Saturday night and they were having an $18 entree and 48% bottles special, which made it reasonable-- otherwise it's a little pricey to be a regular stop.

I ordered the corn soup with crab cake which was on special and the small plate of mussels.  Both were excellent.  Others in my party highly recommended the fish, but not the steak.  Desserts are small, but the dinner portions are reasonable.  Two small plates make a nice alternative to the large plates.  The sommalier was helpful, as was our waitress.

Eat there last night and I have to say it was great. I run a large food business and quite picky about the quality and presentation and i have to say it was top notch. Better than most top restaurants in Los Angeles.

Lat night they were running a special promotion, $13 for ALL entrees and 48% OFF a special wine list. The wine was list wasn't the bad stuff but all great selections. They even made a special pasta for my 6 year old. Service was great and they cared about the wine service by giving us very high quality stem wear. Bravo!

Overall this restaurant was not worth it.  I found the wine list to be pretentiously illegible - all lower case, tiny font, over priced "boutique" bottles.  The food is average for the price and the overall service was ok, but not great.

Excellent wines- by the glass or within a flight. The menu covers a bit of everything: salads, seafood, and meats. Everything looks as good as it tastes. Small plates and large plates, knowledgeable staff, attentive service... an overall great experience.

It's nice to have a place like Vin 48 to add to the West of the Village dining scene.  Avon has never been known for the fine dining scene, and hopefully this will help change that.  Even if you're not in to go big, you could easily have two glasses of wine and share a couple of small plates for around $50....and I like that.

The menu was seasonal, eclectic, and varied, even if everything that I tasted seemed ever so-slightly underseasoned.  The orecchiete and vegetable spring rolls was cooked well, but lacked salt (or soy as the case may be).  Mussels with chorizo were spot-on and had the salty, smoky balance in line.

The wine list is great.  Plenty of interesting choices under $70, over 30 wines by-the-glass that are preserved by a state of the art preservation system.  Too many places try to do this to be cool, but end up serving you old, flat, flabby, acidic, "past their pull date" glasses.  When I can order a 1/2 glass of an esoteric Piemontese varietal like Ruche and have it taste like it should on a Monday night, which probably wasn't when it was opened, that is a big, fat flashing green light to proceed with whatever sounds good.  Few others in the Vail Valley can say that.

One other "slight" negative was the service.  Inattentive wine service probably cost our server and sommelier extra business/tips.  We had ordered and practically consumed two bottles at our table before the first course was cleared.  We were asked if we wanted a third when the table was done eating and we were awaiting a check?!?!?  Also, the server promised to bring a bucket to chill down the first bottle immediately and he showed up when the bottle was empty.  The same server also acted a bit condescending when a couple friends at our table asked questions about ingredients that only the most savvy of foodies would know the answer.  They didn't need responses that included a rolling of the eyes, a chuckle, and an "everyone knows what _______ is" attitude.  People are dining with you to explore and expand their palates.  Please help them, don't insult them.

I'm looking forward to my next visit back to see what changes await me.

I love wine bars, especially when I'm on vacation in places where they have weird liquor laws like Colorado.

According to the locals that we went with this place had just opened. They had a full bar also which made our non wine drinking companions happy. A little too happy actually. Our little Irishmen was enjoying his shots of Jameson a little too much. The more he drank the louder he got and the more he embarrased our waitress. Oh well, some people can't be taken anywhere nice.

On to the wine. We decided to just drink and have food later so I can't comment on the dishes that they serve. They all looked and smelled good though. I love a wine bar where they let you order flights of wine. Especially when you don't recognize any of the wines on the menu. My friend the Vegan ordered the Orgnanic flight, how appropriate. I myself ordered a flght of reds, can't remember which ones. Not all of them were great but then wine is about what you like personally. Not about what everyone else likes. The Vegan and I shared our flights and between the two enjoyed ourselves quite a bit.

Our waitress was very nice and accomodating as well as everyone else in the restaurant. Very cute place which reminded me of the many restaurants that we have in San Francisco. High ceilings, dark furniture, lots of windows, very pretty bar. I believe most of the tables were elevated with high stools but I'm not positive. Not cheap but then, we didn't pay so who cares.

Vin 48 is like an oasis in Irish Pub and Sports Bar hell.

A freaking wine bar in Avon, Colorado? Just to be fair-all of the fancy restaurants and bars seemed to be located at the ski resorts and since we preferred to walk (did not have a car), Vin 48 was a pleasurable little treat for us.

I ordered the organic flight which included two California wines (a pinot and a cab) and a French wine. It was adorable how they wrote the kind of wine at the bottom of the glass in gold pen. Atmosphere was appropriate from the dimmed lighting to the classy bar stools. While a bit fancy, I did not find this place at all pretentious in jeans, hiking boots, and a down vest. Excellent service by friendly staff.

I ended my visit downing a kir royal like the classy hooker I am to hit up Avon Liquors for some cheap beer.
