The Vineyard Wine Bar and Delaware Gourmet

They are trying, but missing the mark pretty bad. This place is confusing - part deli, part restaurant, part bar, part pizzeria, part caterer. I guess it's all of them? I've tried it twice so far for dinner, and both times waitstaff was not knowledgeable about the menu and seemed generally inexperienced. They have some good beers, so there's that.

Half their menu is pizza based items, and on this most recent visit they said the were out of dough.  Out.of.dough.

Had the Hungry Farmer sandwich - prosciutto, mushrooms, fresh mozz on ciabatta...the mushrooms were canned, and that already brings what could be a good gourmet sandwich down a few levels. There was no balsamic reduction on it - when I let the waiter know, she agreed, but brought me a little plastic ramekin of dressing, which she said was balsamic. It was 90% clear oil with some brown herbs settled in the bottom...basically the worst balsamic dressing ever.  So was I supposed to dip my sandwich in this little pool? It was just very strange. When she came back, I told her it was mostly oil and wasn't balsamic dressing or a reduction of balsamic and she said, "Yea, it's just a bottle of stuff she keeps in the back." She didn't offer to improve on this situation in any way. Kind of deer in headlights.

I ordered the broccoli salad as a side and it was more mayo than broccoli. So much so that I could only down a couple of bites. It was also in a small ramekin and cost $1 extra. Can't you just include a side and work it into the prices? Seems so nickel and dime-ish to charge a buck for a wee ramekin of deli salad.

Honestly I think the menu sounds and looks tasty, but the execution just hasn't been there, and this is not difficult stuff to cook at all - I've cooked in a restaurant. I even gave this place a second chance - I really wanted them to do good.

Finally, for a pizza place to run out of dough by 6pm is kind of insane. Also, pizza dough isn't hard to make...so did they run out of flour and yeast?

I do hope the pizza is as good as people say, if I ever decide to try again.

Amazing pizza and salad, some of the besthangars ever had! The pumpkin ale on tap was a pleasant surprise, too! Service could have been a bit faster, but who comes to such a place in a hurry? This is more a place  to chill and enjoy the warm, country vibe. I really like this place and will definitely eat here again!

It's a great stop for a quick bite or a few nice glasses of wine !!!
