Ok, so we are rolling down the hwy and need the facilities and these other places won't let us use them so we rolled into this place and bought coffee and iced tea and used the restrooms.  We didn't eat here but  would have loved to.  The iced tea was sun tea! Does anyone even do that anymore?  It was fabulous.  The property was very nice, Lots of seating and shade very quaint garden feel.  I would go back again.

Came from the central valley over Sonora Pass and was a very pleasant refreshing stop.  Service was very friendly.  Food good, little salty,  milkshakes and freezes fantastic.  Definitely recommended.

We love this place.  Great food, the best shakes and a really neat atmosphere.  The staff is friendly and the owner is a great guy.  Yeah, it's got no indoor dining, it's only seasonal and you can get some flies, but the place is kept clean, the food always hits the spot and there's not much else around anyway.  Totally worth a stop if your driving down 395 and probably one of the best eateries along the entire route.  Highly recommended.

I felt like I couldn't give this place the full five stars because I simply didn't order the right thing. I was debating between the chili burger and the bacon burger. I told the cashier that I'm a fan of spice so she recommended the chili burger. I ordered the chili burger and my friend ordered the bacon burger.

Unfortunately, I didn't get what I was expecting in terms of a chili burger. The chili burger is actually a burger with a pickled slice of pepper. No beans, no meat, no "chili." And as for the spiciness, I'm sure the pepper may be spicy for Coleville standards, but it was about as mild as it gets in my book.

I did order an orange soda float with my burger. It was quite satisfying. I also tried my friends bacon burger, which was great. So that's why I bumped them up from 3 stars to four.

The outdoor seating was unlike anything I've ever been too. I loved it. The even let you borrow picnic blankets to lay out on the grass while you chow down.

This place is super cute and relaxing, just make sure not to order the chili burger (unless the above description sounds like your kind of thing).

What a great find - someone mentioned it to me, and it was HEAVEN coming off of 108/Sonora Pass - fries & shake is exactly what we needed. Next time I am trying the burger!

Delicious, the bacon was thick and delicious. The burger was tasty!
Great location, tons of tables and seating areas.
    Plenty of flies too.

This is such a cute place!  All the seating is outdoors and they have it nicely decorated and comfortable.  You order at the counter then pick up your food when your number is called.

My husband said his Walker Burger was delicious and quite fresh.  They have beer battered onion rings (major bonus to us) and they were very good.  Because they did not have all beef hot dogs at the time of our visit, I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich which was fine.  Can't' really mess that one up!

The prices were fine and the staff was friendly.  It was kind of funny that their refill policy is not clear so my husbands drink refill had to be negotiated.  He ultimately won :)

Walker Burger was like an oasis in the desert.  There's very little along 395 so I was happy to stumble upon this place on the drive from Yosemite to Tahoe.

My boyfriend and I ordered the same burger.  Two 1/4 lb patties, BBQ sauce, BACON, onion rings, cheese, lettuce, tomato.  I forget the name of it.  It was pretty damn good.  And big!  Perfect treat after a long hike.

The downside... The meat needed some seasoning and the side of onion rings we ordered tasted bland and frozen.

Whoever said this place was cheap was lying.  I'd give it two $$'s.

I still give it a 4. But maybe that's the extreme hunger I was feeling at the time talking.  I'd definitely eat here again if we were doing the same drive.

Thank you yelp for helping me fund such a great place!!!  A disappointing dinner the night before prompted me to seek our Walker Burger, which was along the route of our drive.  Super yummy burgers at reasonable prices!!!  Friendly fast service.  Fries were usual frozen type but freshly fried.  Vanilla cone was perfect ending and loved dining in the shaded outdoor patio!!!

1.0/5 Grilled Chicken Sandwhich: Bland taste, tons of mayo, mediocre shredded lettuce.

Perhaps  I should have gotten a burger.  Next time.

Their outdoor seating in the shade, however, is quite nice.

Walker Burger is always a stop when my husband and I take motorcycle trips to Tahoe or Reno. The Walker burger, fries and a chocolate-banana malt shake are always good. With the friendly staff and a nice outdoor garden/picnic style setting to eat at, we definitely recommend stopping here if you're driving past in the summer.

I have been coming here for 20+ years and it never disappoints. Burgers are amazing and the shakes are wonderful. Love the garden eating area. The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is they are a bit pricy on some of the non hamburger items. For example 3.95 for 3 taquitos which were actually the size of 1/2 taquitos and 4.25 for a corn dog. But all in all I would stick with the burgers and shakes and you won't be disappointed.

We really enjoyed the beautiful evening, in the lovely setting created at Walker Burger.  And the food was great, too!

ok burger. I ordered fries and fried zucchini. There were exactly 12 french fries and 7, yes, SEVEN small zucchini rounds. Not sticks, but circular pieces. I paid like $4 for that! The milkshake is the only thing that really saved this place from getting less than 2 stars.

This place is very nice, especially considering it's in a very small rural town. The food is affordable and the customer service is excellent. My family and I stopped here for lunch on our way to Vegas. My daughters loved eating "picnic" style in their garden. We enjoyed it so much we planned to stop on our way home the following week. Unfortunately they were closed and it was only 7pm on a Friday evening. The sign didn't have closing hours posted so I was pretty disappointed but what do you expect from a small-town burger joint... If it happens to be open when you are driving through I definitely recommend it.

I have stopped here 3 times in the past 2 years. Twice while on the motorcycle. A great place to stop. The food is actually very good, and the general atmosphere is great. They have a nice outdoor seating area with lots of flowers and lots of shade, a grassy area for kids to play, etc. I have always been impressed with this place. Last time I was there the mgr was walking around asking if everyone's food was OK. If you are near here and looking to eat, this is a fine choice. BTW, the milkshakes are GREAT!

We did the 500 mile RT pilgrimage on motorcycles from the Bay Area to Walker Burger through Sonora pass and back on Hwy 4 south of Tahoe for the famous Walker Burger and shall I say, well worth every steep gravelly hairpin turn.

I felt as though I had reached the holy grail filled with delicious blueberry milkshake made with real blueberries....and had to wait just long enough for my burger for me to eat it slowly enough to appreciate.

The garden is an oasis, as I've ridden in countries of desert where they actually have those '1001 Arabian nights' style oases. Shady, with just enough breeze, butterflies abound and the desert starts at their back fence.

People sit leisurely and actually clean up after themselves. The bathrooms are immaculate. What can I say, I'm coming back and I'm bring more riders (motorcycle friendly.)

Yes! Be hungry. I'm not a huge fan of the chilli burger but I make an exception for this place. It's not always open but when it is- stop here if you're wanting a burger fix. They've got ice cream too and a patio with picnic tables. Rootbeer freeze= yes please! Old fashioned burgers, small town charm, and less than you'll spend on that other burger.

If you are driving through Walker CA in the summer, this is a must! This is what a burger joint should be. The food is good and the ice cream is great. I like to get the root beer freeze, but there are a couple of dozen flavors of shakes and several sundaes. The kicker is the dining area out back. You can spend a lot of time just exploring their grounds complete with water features, bird houses and nice picnic areas. You gotta try it!

We drove past this little roadside place for years without noticing it and found it through an article in Sunset Magazine.

Fantastic food (burgers, fries, shakes, hot dogs etc.....) but the real treat is the shaded side garden where you can relax and your pets are welcome.  They even have picnic cloths to spread on the ground if you want to eat picnic style in the back garden.

You order from a walk-up window.  Try to get there around the time they open (11:00am-11:45ish) but be prepared to wait a bit if you arrive at noontime, they cook everything to order which is why it's so good.

On a side note, Highway 395 is one of the most scenic byways in the states.

Delish!  Perfect, just the way I like my burgers.  They are thin patties FYI and cooked well.  You can order bigger patties.   The people are super friendly, and the ambiance is cute, and quaint.  Walker is an extremely small town.  Walker Burger is just what small towns are made of.  Old fashioned burgers, people with a personality, customer service is A1.  Better than I get in San Diego.  Small town people know how to treat their customers and make a great burger.

Very disappointed with the quality of food and the exhorberant price of food.  Yeah, the garden is nice but so is mine.  Bathroom signs were affending and made you feel guilty for even using them (outlined what it takes to keep them clean).  Wish I would have tried the BBQ place down the road a little.

Shakes!  A great place even if people are yelling at you (they usually are not)  One of my favorite gardens and yes I've been to Kyoto.  I have to stop and at least get a shake if not more any time I'm down 395.

After passing Walker Burger dozens of times either too early or too late for the hours they're open, I finally had the chance to stop in and try their food. The outdoor seating area (they only seem to have outdoor seating) is pretty neat. Grassy and tree-shaded, a cute little garden and fountain and a nice view of the valley. From the time my friend and I ordered, until the time the food came out was a bit of a wait, so if you are in a rush, this isn't the place for you. I ordered their half-pound burger (with extra pickles), and my friend ordered their special half-pound western bacon cheeseburger.

The burgers were ok, they charred the thin patties, so it had a decent flavor, albeit a little on the dry-side. They somehow managed to get both orders incorrect. If they had put the extra pickles on the larger burger, I would've said they only got my friend's order wrong, but it was definitely both. I got their smallest burger instead of the half-pounder I ordered, and my friend got a normal burger without the rings, bbq sauce, etc. The onion rings were a little off (sort of gross), and they're the typical store bought frozen onion rings. They took so long to deliver our order, we decided against trying to get it fixed and just ate what we got.

All-in-all, a somewhat disappointing introduction to Walker Burger definitely not worth the $18 we paid. I guess we should've asked for $3 back for their mistake with my portion. I'll just vote with my wallet and appetite however and save it for Bishop or Carson. Oh, and I've been meaning to try Jolly Kone in Bridgeport, maybe that'll be my next stop in that neck of the woods. :)

I always look forward to getting a Walker Burger when I am in town. I don't know if it's due to the nostalgia of eating them on road trips while growing up, or if it's because the burgers are big and juicy, and the fries are thick and yummy. I think the latter.

On the drive from Tahoe to Yosemite, we were looking for a local place to eat and asked the toll collector/car inspector for a recommendation. She highly recommended Walker Burger.

Ok, well, it's about 10:30 in the morning, but sure, why not?  By the time we slowly made it over there and got our food it was about 11.  So, about lunch time for us central standard timers.  We ordered the macho burger, the bacon cheeseburger and a peanut butter and banana shake.

The kids thought this place was the best burger joint ever.  Better than In n out.  Blasphemy!!!

Love this little place!  In Walker, CA, just north of Bridgeport, south of Topaz Lake.  Staff is hella-friendly.  Great cheeseburgers!  Also good swirl soft-serve cones.  If you have time, eat there in the outdoor seating area.  Beautiful garden with interesting flowers, plants, and birdhouses.  Nice people, good food. If you stop in Walker, this place is well worth it!

This is the best place to stop for a burger and shake along 395. Im not saying its the best burger ever, like if I was comparing it to all the places in Reno, but if you find yourself in th area, this is the places to stop. Either here or Walke BBQ in town. Just depends what you want to eat. Yeah the prices are a little on the high side but he, you're out here in the sticks and the setting is nice, so just relax. Sometimes its just fun to make a day trip from Reno to come here.

Based on the advice of a knowledgeable fire ranger, friends and I stopped here for lunch last week.

First a little about the garden/patio area behind the burger stand:    It's a garden.  It's an oasis.   In an otherwise unremarkable locale on the eastern side of the Sierras, it's a welcome sight for the hungry, the thirsty, the ones badly in need of sustenance.

For those far from home and wanting some comforting surroundings while they refuel and rest before continuing on their journeys, it's a go-to spot to stretch out on green gass in the shade and gaze upon flowers and fountains bubbling happily away.

    Now, about the ~food~...

I had the Ortega burger, a large root beer, and a smll order of fries.   Even though I was pretty hungry, I was hard put to finish everything included in my order.   The food tasted ~wonderful~.  The burgers are cooked to order, so you'll have to wait a bit.  No pre-cooked burgers waiting in a warmer for indeterminate times.   The fries were tasty, too.  Even though I'd ordered the small size, the order was not skimpy.

There's a covered patio with tables, a shaded grassy lawn area with tables and lots of open grass area where picnic cloths may be laid out (ppicnic cloths are provided.)

[Out front, there's a bucket of water with a sqeegee  so that weary travelerscan scrub the bugs and dirt from their windshields.   It's a nice, complementary touch. ]

We ate lunch, then went out on a 3 day backpacking trip.   No indigestion from old grease or any other troubles.   Our burgers sat happily in our guts digesting away, providing sustenance for our strenuous activity.

In 3 days, we hiked out, and stopped by Walker Burger for another delicious meal to sustain us on the long drive back home.

Been going to this little burger joint since I was a little, little kid. Anytime I'm up in that area I have to stop at Walker Burger. Seriously best burgers around! I'm heading up there next month and I hope it's still as good as it always was.

In the middle of this desolate stretch of California highway, you will find this oasis of red meat and grassy picnic wonderfulness.

One of THE best burger joints you will ever find in the entire world. Speaking as a former vegetarian/San Diego native/Berkeley girl, it takes a lot for me to say that. But seriously. Swear to cow, this place is knock your socks off amazing.

And but of course, monsieur, it is out of the way and very unlikely that you will ever drive past this place. And if you do ever find yourself in Walker, California, home to all of 42 souls, you might miss it even if you are looking for it. The only reason I ever stumbled upon it was doing the trek from Lair of the Bear in Pinecrest, CA over the Sonora Pass and into Tahoe for a day off. We would literally save our meager paychecks to splurge on the above and beyond cheeseburgers and root beer floats. One summer, the owner was replacing the uniforms and we actually BOUGHT their greasy old blue polos to wear proudly, all for a whopping $1.  That's how the obsession began.

The food is beyond amazing, and the place is about as charming as you can possibly imagine. The actual kitchen itself is beyond tiny, with just a few windows to help customers. Yet surprisingly, the menu is rather lengthy, with your typical burger, turkey burger and veggie burger delights, as well as various fried sides and malts and shakes and floats (and of course everything is fat free in Walker. you don't gain an ounce, right? yup that's what I heard...). And while you wait (because yes, there is usually a wait), you can rest in their gorgeous garden/picnic/shady haven they have. With clean restrooms right there, and a shady table to eat at, you are in heaven, dear friends.

I will tell you, that I have had nay sayers. Those that could not believe such an amazing place existed. My brother, and my lover (yes those are two separate people! I am no Wasilla Hillbilly...) were with me on a road trip into Tahoe from the Lair just this summer, and I insisted they stopped. Trust me, they both could not believe they were taking burger advice from the salad queen. That was until they got there, smelled the amazing food and promptly apologized for ever doubting me. Not to mention, between the three of us, we spent $62. Yes. $62. Because each of these men ordered a few burgers, fried godliness and shakes to boot. And dare I say, their food induced comas said enough.

Do whatever you can to get to Walker Burger. And please oh please bring me back a cheeseburger!!!!!

Great place to go for a burger. The burgers themselves were great, and they also have very good milkshakes, and a pretty broad menu. And what's really special is the very nice shaded garden in the back where you can eat. Very well maintained, clean, and really wonderful. They even have tablecloths you can use if you want to eat on the grass.

Definitely recommended and worth it. If you are anywhere in the area, or want a drive from Tahoe, this is a great place.

Walker Burger is a great place! The restrooms are the cleanest around and everyone that works there is a pleasure to deal with. The menu can't  be beat especially the rootbeer milkshakes. We travel to Walker Burger often just to enjoy the garden.

the burgers are so-so. the owner was kind of a bitch and was telling us all how she owned the place and all that. She ended up vomiting all over me and all I could say was "So that's what a Walker Burger looks like?"

Great place to get some food in the middle of nowhere.  I like their shakes a lot.  If you like onion rings and hamburgers this is your place.  Whenever I am in the area I like to go there.  A lot of options for such a small place.

A favorite lunch stop in the middle of  Walker. I've ridden my motorcycle from the Bay Area over the Sierras, had lunch and ridden back. The burgers are decent, but the garden is the best part. It is cool under the trees and the view over the meadows is pleasant. Walker is a nice little town with an old western feel on Highway 395. Be sure and buy some tickets to enter the annual rubber duck race.
