I had an awesome time at Wayne's. I definitely recommend sitting at the sushi bar. Wayne's got a lot of personality and cool stories to tell--he's also incredibly knowledgeable about fish and I learned a lot by talking to him. After our meal when he was closing down, he let us get behind the bar with him and take some pictures.

Great Sushi and staff.  All the sushi rolls are good.  It is a small place and if busy, you do have to be patient and enjoy the ambiance of the place and experience.  A small staff working their hardest to make the experience rememberable. Eat there twice in one week.  That good!

So we came to eat breakfast in the morning and saw that this was a sushi bar with steller reviews at night.

We came back that night and we were quickly sat at the sushi bar. We were so excited to try this sushi beecause of the reviews.

Well.....2 HRS AND 45 MINUTES our first roll came out. You read that right. It was not that busy and we werent that picky on time, but come the f on. The roll was good but not extraordinary.

What was extrodinary and got Wayne's Sushi those two little stars up there was the butter fish.

I might come her after I have ate somewhere else so that I wasnt starving for the 4 hours it took to have dinner her, just to order the butter fish. It was breathtaking.

Oh I forgot to add, the lady that served us was nice but she forgot 2 of the things we ordered and she still tried to charge up. This place was alitlle pricey but not bad.

Wayne amazes me!! This is some of the best sushi I've ever had and it's in a little teeny spot in a very quiet part of Maui. Wayne and his son have served their amazing sushi in other parts of the US (Vegas, etc) but now Maui is so lucky to have them.

Every part of our meal was delicious - from the miso soup to the tea to the rolls. We also had so much fun with Wayne and his son as well as the other staff. We took photos behind the sushi bar, silly pics at our table, and photos of the food. One of the really funny dishes we ordered was called the "orgasm" something or other and other rolls were named after celebrities - funny names describing great food!

I can't wait to go back to Wayne's Sushi - too far it's so far away...

    F**cking brilliant.
Wayne and his son, Jesse, have the market on sushi with this little family business. And yes, you will meet one of the two during your dining experience.

All the rolls are made to order, with love, and fresh everything. The server was running late so Jesse personally took care of us. We sat outside where there is wonderful relaxed atmosphere. It's BYOB, which is always a plus, and they even warmed up our sake for us! Reasonably priced and just plain cute (loved all the clever names for the rolls), please give this place a try when you're upcountry.

I wouldn't know how to review as we were sitting outside dining area with no service.  Waitress said she is busy inside.  So we went to Colleen's and had awesome service!

Excellent sushi, and Jesse is so friendly and nice. Appetizers are great. Fish is very fresh. What makes it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the rice isn't up to the same quality as the fish. But clearly the best sushi we've had on Maui.

F**k the beaten path!  If you stay on that path all the time, you'll never discover hidden gems such as these.

If you have the car, drive right on through the touristy area of Paia and find your way to the small town of Haiku.

When you find Wayne's, your immediate thought likely will be, WtF?

Once you get beyond the shock of the shabby small little converted house... go in, and enjoy the aloha spirit that Wayne and his lovely merriment's will provide.

As for Wayne; the man is straight-up down to earth.  He genuinely cares about the food, the customers and his employees.  His wife (who's awesome since she's from the East Bay) will also likely be milling around helping Wayne, the others and talking with the peoples.  The place the attitude the vibe is casual; so if you're in a hurry, this isn't the place to eat at.

I devoured and enjoyed everything he put forth.  He also gave me a taster of some  tempura unagi; serious addicting.

The misoyaki... I wish I had two or three of those bad boys.  The fish just melted, and the flavor loitered in the mouth (like a whore in a candy-shop).  Also, eat the skin... the flavors and nutrients are there.

If you're really lucky, you'll strike up a conversation with the locals and talk about all the good things to do, visit and EAT on the island.

    finally, ByoBWS

What a hidden gem to find in the quiet town of haiku!  Only opened 5 months ago as the dinner counterpart to the north shore cafe, this family run sushi joint is fun, fresh and onolicious!

Wayne and his son Jessie served up some creative and well executed sashimi (our favorite was the seared local ahi), shiso horny roll (which my mom got lol),  the say whaat roll and an off the menu item.. Broiled kama (yellowtail collar) seasoned simply with salt, pepper, lemon wedge and ponzu sauce on the side.  Yes, it was amazing.... So we had two!

Service at the sushi bar was good and fun to talk story with wayne and jessie.  Byob with $1.50 corkage pp.  Will definately return on our next trip to maui!

Off the beaten path and worth finding. Nice spot. Great service and Wayne is delightful and entertaining. He is an artist, a sushi Rembrandt. The fish he gets is super fresh. I happen to love Hamachi and Wayne's was super ono. As for now you can byob. There is a store across the Highway. The servers will bring you an ice bucket. I really love this place!

Once I found Wayne's, I never need to look for another sushi place again!
I absolutely love the creativity, and the menu by itself is good for a laugh. One highlight for me since I love spicy food is their homemade chili sauce made from Hawaiian chilies. BYOB is a great idea since Haiku Market is just around the corner and more affordable than most alcohol served in restaurants, and they're even nice enough to offer to heat up your sake for you and provide the glasses! Perfect for a local experience, especially if you are not in a hurry, which is the only caveat, unless you are also not a fan of karaoke!

Was recommended by a local. Glad I brought my own beer.  The sushi was awesome.  Took a while, so be patient.  We had a bunch of rolls.  The wayne bo roll, the say what, crispy critter, garlic hand roll- was my favorite.  Not sure if I got the names 100% accurate- working off memory.  Also had the miso soup- great.  The chilled asparagus- great. Loved the atmosphere- super friendly local and local.  Best sushi I've had so far- coming from San Diego.

Excellent evening at Wayne's sushi! It's a little place, father and son. North Shore Cafe operates in the day and Wayne Sushi at night. Our food was fresh and great. The rolls were delicious and creative. They took pride in their work. The staff was friendly and attentive. They also offer karaoke.

I rarely give out a five star review and Wayne's is most deserving in my book.
The very best sushi I have ever had.... inventive,  super-fresh, to-die-for!
A father and son effort, hidden on the North Shore in a converted home that is also known as North Shore Cafe during daylight hours. This is a place for the locals... unpretentious, six-packs on every table, karaoke being sung by the executives, and everyone smiling at one another like ohana.
The food is really outstanding and humorous too! Hamachi Jalepeno, Sashimi Albacore, Wayne bo roll, and Hawaii Goes Fishing roll were seriously amazing. Jesse, Wayne's son offered us some baked Hamachi sushi with a (was it?) ponzu sauce... I don't think we dipped into our wasabi the entire evening... also got comped oyster shooters that were an 'error' on another table (fools for not taking it!)... they gave us slices of the hamachi belly, which was probably the best fish I have ever tasted in my life. They clearly take pride and joy in their cookery (or un-cookery, as may be the case.)
What a wonderful wonderful evening and meal... so much so that we are still talking about it, spreading the word, and planning on opening a second retirement account.

Without a doubt, the best sushi I have ever had.  The rolls are unique, the sauces are amazing, and the fish is impossibly fresh.  I've gone twice in the past week and have told all of my friends about it.  The service is a little slow, but its friendly and it works and adds to the charm of this small father-son operation.  I can't wait to go back and try another amazing creation from these guys.

If I could, I'd FedEx some Wayne's sushi to me in California. I could think of nothing else tonight, and my dinner was not close to comparison. Wayne knows his stuff!

This very random, obscure location is half the awesomeness of this place. You are not quite sure what you're getting when you are walking up, and walking in for that matter. But damn, this place just tugs at my heart strings. It's not super fancy, so don't come wearing your finest. Come feeling relaxed with time on your hands, and ready for some of the best sushi you'll ever have. Make sure you BYOB since they don't have your liquor license. Just pop over to the market across the street and bring in as much as you like. I liked this better than buying drinks there! We packed a cooler before hand and focused our taste buds on the food.

The prices aren't all that bad either! For the size of the rolls and the fullness of my stomach, I approved of both completely. My favorite, which I can't remember the name of, was towards the top of the menu. It's topped with an unmentionable "cream", and has salmon. Whatever that was, I should have ordered more. Get that, and get a couple of orders.

    I can't wait to visit Wayne's again!

Great Sushi,  friendly father/son sushi team.   Experinced chefs, new restuarant
Authenic fresh food.  Hit the spot for wonderful tasty sushi and miso soup.

First of all, these people didn't even have enough chairs for their tables. I usually don't judge restaurants on this because some of the best restaurants are kinda ghetto, but this just wasn't the case. The night that we went in was kind of busy, but not too bad. They took forever to take our order and it literally took 2 hours to actually get my roll. When I finally got my roll, it was very poorly constructed. It kept falling apart and frankly, it was quite ugly. Also, we got several rolls and they all tasted the same...and let me tell you, it was not a good taste! There are much better sushi places on this island, don't waste your time on this one.
