***This was my first ever visit to a Wendy's for breakfast; it was not horrible, but for an unhealthy fast food breakfast, I prefer McDonald's***
On most of my trips on the 5 from LA to SF, I have stopped at McDonald's for breakfast. Â There are not many other choices. Â On my last trip though, I stumbled upon this Wendy's and decided to give it a try (I had never been to a Wendy's for breakfast).
This Wendy's has a breakfast menu that is similar to Burger King and McDonald's (they do offer biscuits with sausage gravy, a dish I think you cannot get at those other two places in California).
I had the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit and it was very similar to the same breakfast sandwich at McDonald's. Â The biscuit might have lacked the crunchiness and color of McDonald's biscuit, but the egg was similar as was the slightly melted and slightly not melted slice of American cheese.
Wendy's may have been a little more generous with the bacon (though, like McDonald's, it was not great bacon).
The hash browns were the circular discs you would find at a Burger King. Â Not exactly hot or very crispy but okay for what it was. Â I am not sure why, but McDonald's seems to own the patent on tasty (albeit incredibly unhealthy) fast food breakfast hash browns. Â It seems that their top competitors opt for these bland discs while the places that go for the McDonald's-like hash browns end up serving something that is not-so-crisp and incredibly greasy/soggy.
Service was fine and quick. Â Prices were similar to other fast food breakfast spots.
Wendy's breakfast is not a significant drop off in quality from a McDonald's breakfast so it might be an option if you want to try something new. Â However, if McDonald's breakfast is a guilty (or non-guilty) pleasure of yours, you probably should skip this Wendy's and head to one of the nearby McDonald's locations instead.
Like most fast food places, this Wendy's has its own free parking lot; it is also attached to a unique convenience store, which carries several auto supplies and do-it-yourself equipment.
This Wendy's is pretty well maintained for a place that gets so many travelers constantly stopping in. Â I thought that the service was friendly and we received our food quickly. Â I ordered an apple pecan salad and all of the ingredients were super fresh tasting. Â I will probably stop here again if traveling through the area.
Review Source:It was very simple. I waltzed in. I gave the cheery cashier my order. They made it there on the spot. Everything was fresh. They asked me if I wanted any condiments. My change was correct. Her, the cashier's, attitude was awesome. The restaurant was clean and pretty quiet. It was a nice, simple, easy, friendly, clean, drama free visit. THANKS!
** Even better, they didn't charge us for ranch or sweet & sour sauce **
Wendy's/Pilot Travel Center
Is the circus in town? Â Or is this where the circus calls home?
Fatty & I stopped here for a bite at Wendy's and some caffeine for the drive back to L.A. Â After ordering the spicy chicken sandwich combo for me and cheeseburger combo for himself, Fatty excused himself to the head in the Pilot side.
I grabbed serve-yourself ketchups, straws, and napkins, found a table which gave me the corner view to observe the freaks that were leaving and entering the joint. Â
When Fatty came back from the loo, at practically the same time we asked each other, "Are you noticing all the freaks in here??!!"  He then  comments that we may be near a leaking nuclear reactor.  I ask him if he has ever seen Erin Brockovich.
Food was not horrible, but not spectacular. Â The Pilot store is a road traveler's dream with all kinds of goodies to enjoy behind the wheel or to throw in the back seats to keep the kiddies happy. Â There are also islands for gas, so this is a one-stop shop for Wendy's-addicted travelers.
But the freak show...the freak show....
