2 dollar Bloody Marys (with beer chaser) on Saturday and free popcorn, what's not to love. Their food is good too.

I've enjoyed a lot of great nights out here.  Great, friendly staff.  Cheap brews and good food.

Decent food, and I truly enjoy that adults can order off of the kids menu. The kids meals are a great value and good-sized (I almost always take home leftovers). I am not impressed with the service, however. Every single time I go to Whistle Binkies I wait at least 10-15 minutes for a server. The waiters and waitresses rarely come to the tables to ask how the food is, if their diners need anything, refill beverages, etc. They seem annoyed and aggravated that they need to wait on people...reality check: that's your job! They spend more time chatting with other servers and bartenders than they do with customers.

I don't really understand why so many of the Rochester people love this place.  The food is okay...but the atmosphere for me leaves a lot to be desired.  When I go out for drinks with friends---I want to be able to be comfortable and chat.  This place is always packed to the walls with people and crowded and noisy. The seating is not comfortable and you need to stick with the basic beverages here---no handcrafted martini drinks here and if you do venture out and get one---it will be mostly juice, sweet, and more than likely it will splash over the glass and be all sticky when you get it....to me this is just a place where the locals like to go because it is one of the only places in the area..

Very extensive beer selection, and my wife (who is Chinese and grew up in Hong Kong) says that they have the most authentic spring rolls (egg rolls) in town.

Best beer selection in town--hands down!  The beer list is more like a book and it's much bigger than the food menu itself!  This place is the BEST for all you beer snobs.  Beers from all over the world, a bunch of small US breweries, and tons of good taps.  Mystery Beer nights on Monday's are always fun, draw a random beer out of a bucket for $2 or so.  Service is always good too.

The food is pretty decent as well.  They are nice enough to offer veggie burgers to replace the beef in all of their burger options.  But still, I do wish they had more vegetarian options and/or healthier options.  Organic ingredients would make me a mega-fan!

Huge selection of alcohol (beer, liquor, mixed drinks, all of it!). Free popcorn (though I'm learning this a MN normal). Food is pretty good. Nothing stood out as to-die-for, but better than typical bar food. This is a great place to chill with friends, not so much for a romantic date night.

Great beer selection, free popcorn, darn good bloodies.  This place was our savior during the Rochester boys basketball tournament.  Nice work!

Whistle Binkies, oh how I miss you so! I remember many Monday nights while in college where I would come avoid my schoolwork and enjoy their Mystery Beer Mondays. Those nights were never a let-down.
The other nights of the week were never anything but amazing either, how could they be anything but with their beer selection? That's a beer lover's dream right there. HEAVEN.
I have since moved away from Rochester and onto to better scenery but when I come back to the frozen tundra I always stop by. My most recent stop was just a month ago and I ventured here with my parents and other family. This was the first time that I was nervous but only because I have recently gone vegetarian (that's what moving to California does to people). I didn't know what I would be able to eat but they made it simple and catered to my wishes (chicken-less chicken stirfry, SPICY) and it was absolutely phenomenal! I also got to enjoy their beer menu and as always it did not disappoint.
I sure hope that I can find a place similar to Whistle Binkies here in San Diego. *fingers crossed*

I kind of like Binkies North as we call it.  I used to go there fairly regularly but I stopped that.

My wife went in for a beer.  She was with friends, at the time I happenned to be there and seated at the bar.  We did not know the otehr would be there and later drove home together.

Anyhow she ordered a beer and it happenned to be a special.  The bar tender gave her a beer that had nearly 4 inches of foam on top.  She complained a bit and I watched the bartender brush her off with a well she ordered the sale beer for 2 bucks what does she expect.  the bartender did not know I was her husband.

Since that day we do not go much, the bartender is not there much anymore, but his attitude toward the patrons and myu wife was horrible.

I agree it is anything but a traditional pub you would find in Ireland or Englund, but hey this is America where people like load places with talking heads on the walls.

I've gone to Whistle Binkies a few times in the past few years.  The first time when they were sponsoring a local winter fundraiser for the special olympics.  The food fare is typical bar food plus extended menu with pasta, specials, and Irish/English specialties.  I recently got the shepherd pie.  It tasted a little like condensed soup.  Meh.  Before I purchased the turkey dinner and had enough food for two meals.  The corn was full of butter but was delicious.  The beer menu was impressive.  I tried a blueberry beer for $4 and was impressed.  There are loads of microbrews and other locally brewed and suggestively named suds.  Seating was ok.  I wouldn't reccomend bringing small children during peak times.  That said, my kids devoured their mac n cheese.  We had to sit at a table close to the door on a saturday.  It wasn't all bad.  Everyone waiting had to watch me eat and drink my beer.  The best part of my dining experience was the bathroom.  The dining area was typical drab poorly lit pub decor but the bathroom was like going into a bathroom at an upscale clothing store.  I almost brought my food into the bathroom because I enjoyed the ambiance so much.  People started to give me odd looks when I placed my face on the marble sink tops and was stroking the marble ever so lovingly.  I eventually returned to my seat to finish my meal.  I am strongly considering going again to enjoy the bathroom.

Scotch eggs. Egg rolls. Killer beer selection. Jimmy Erickson is one hell of a bar tender.

If you want to see where the locals who don't work for Mayo or IBM eat dinner, this is your spot.  If you're into dive-y bars with Twins games on TV, this might be for you!

I'm in no hurry to go back, but Whistle Binkies is ok for a burger and a beer.  It's probably not going to be the best burger or beer you've ever had, but probably not the worst, either.  It's just fine for what it is, and is priced accordingly.  Nothing fancy, but not a bad place to eat out while on a budget (but not while counting calories).

I came here with a friend that I haven't seen in 10 years from Rochester. I grew up in Rochester and things has changed. I am glad that Rochester is improving. Anyways, I came here late at night to chat up with my friend. We had a great time there, sitting at he bar. The bartender was very friendly, he made me a 'PERFECT MARGARITA.' I guess he is known for making the best margarita in town according to a lady sitting at the bar...well,  i  it was 'ok'...i mean there were too much booze. haha...anyways, i would say this place is great to hang out with friends and for happy hour.

    free popcorn! ;)

Wow! I just had a fabulous meal. I got a Bell's Two-Hearted Ale on tap (or two) and the Jerk--a three flame hot burger Caribbean Jerk style and fries. Interior  is Brit Pub, loud, and warm!

I finally went here the other day, and I like the atmosphere. I love that the staff doesn't have to wear the same "cookie cutter" uniforms. That's good. because the guy that waited on us four was filling his jeans beautifully. :0

The food was OK, great beer selection. Nice to see Grain Belt on the menu. Fun and a little different. I'll be back.

Lots of great food choices and many more tap selections than the typical Rochester joint.  I like the south side location because its bigger, comfier, and has more booths.

An excellent beer selection. OK food. However, I always feel like the place is damp, greasy, and dirty. Not the best atmosphere.

There are actually two WB in Rochester. One on the northside that is smaller, and one on the southside that is larger and has an outdoor patio in the warmer months. They both serve the same menu. It is know for it's world class beer selection. It's a great place to go try a new drink and catch a game on one of the many flat screen tvs. I have never had any complaints about the beer or the food.

Very laid back atmosphere with a sweet beer selection. Burgers are really good too. Great place to watch Football on Sundays.
