Found this beautiful cafe while staying in McCloud. Looked the like only thing open in town and thank got it was because we went back every day we were in town. The Dinners are fabulous, service was splendid and location was perfect!
The decor was absolutely classic, felt like we were in a modern version of a 1950's diner.
We will be back every time we are in town, you can count on that!
The only thing wrong with this place is its not in Mount Shasta, with that being said my wife and I will make the drive without a whimper. The food is always fresh and served piping hot. We live one hundred yards from the Mt. Shasta Resort and never even consider going there for lunch or dinner. Thanks for the great food and wonderful service.
Review Source:I attended 2 parties in the past couple of weeks at the McCloud Mercantile. Â Both parties were catered by the owners of the White Mountain Cafe. Â These were both big parties and the food was not only delicious, but the meals were different from each other. Â Good food, great people, super experience both times.
Review Source:This is the best breakfast and lunch restaurant in the tri-city area (Mount Shasta, McCloud and Weed. It is well worth the 10 mile ride from Mount Shasta. Everything is made with fresh ingredients. There omelets are to die for, lunch menu is great, burgers are hot and juicey, there soups are home made, the BLT is the best ever and the chicken salad fresh and crispy and massive.
everything about this place is wonderful, located in a small town where everyone knows your name. Wait staff friendly and attentive, portions are large, 1/2 orders can be made. I have been there 7 times within the last 8 months and I hope to make my way through there whole menu.
If you are ever in the area it is a must stop to take in a great breakfast or lunch.
This restaurant is worth a 10 mile diversion off 1-5 on Route 89 just for breakfast! The food was really excellent, the portions were large, the service was friendly and the even the coffee was worth a second cup.
The setting is an historic building, circa 1890's. Step outside, turn left and Mt. Shasta fills the view. A man in an antique store across the street told me people drive up from Redding (60 miles) for Sunday brunch. I can believe it.
If only all breakfast/lunch places were run like this one. No one leaves hungry. Truly fresh homestyle cooking , service, warmth, in the heart of beautiful/historic McCloud. Do yourself a favor and take that beautiful mountain drive and stop in and experience hospitality as only Scott and Aubrey can provide. Afterwards take a stroll through town. Fun stuff!
Review Source:Great breakfast and lunch spot! Over this past weekend my wife and I ate there 3 times. Twice for breakfast and once for lunch.
The breakfast portions are pretty big but they do offer half orders.
Everything was super tasty and very reasonably priced! My wife had probably the best looking and tasting BLT ever!! huge strips of bacon and very fresh produce! My omelets were equally good with lots of fresh ingredients!
It may be different in more busy seasons but the times we went to the cafe there was only one waitress and at least the second day of breakfast we had to wait a little longer than usual for refills and the check. But other than that the waitress was very friendly and very attentive.
Definitely check this place out if you are in the area. You wont be disappointed.
This is my favorite spot for breakfast or lunch in McCloud. Â The food is good, the ambience makes you feel like you are someplace special, and you need only visit a few times and Aubrey will have you welcomed like a local. I encourage everyone to try the specials as they usually have some good stuff to offer. Â The huevos rancheros seems to get a lot of attention, but the menu has lots of other goodies too. Â The shrimp salad is nicely prepared, the logger's special for breakfast will definitely fill you up and nothing better than fish and chips on a nice rainy day.
This is definitely the best place in McCloud for breakfast and lunch. And as an added bonus you can do a little shopping in the Mercantile when you are done with your meal since the two are right next door to each other.
Absolutely loved this place! Â The shasta region does not offer the best food selections , so this place was refreshing and quaint. There are not too many places to eat in McCloud and this place saved our trip. Â Its affordable, clean, great service, the atmosphere is unique and the food is good as well. Â I got the veggie omelet the first morning and make your own omelet the second with a good cup of coffee and it was refreshing to eat something descent if your staying in McCloud or around the area. Â I would definitely recommend it!
Review Source:Fantastic find! We with kids sharking for a hot chocolate & cool location. Historic location, cool building, great honest service, candy store next door - how can you go wrong??!! Not a lot of food selection when we were there but the cheesy brocolli (?) soup sure smelled wonderful on this cold winter afternoon. Do yerself a favor, get in here!
Review Source:Aubrey was charming! Â The food was good and generous! Â We got the chicken friend steak, and I thought it was one of the best I'd ever had. Â The restaurant is cute, and the town is historic. Â I will go back anytime I am nearby, for example to ski Mt. Shasta or just driving through to Reno. Â It's worth the short drive out of Mt. Shasta for a nice meal.
Review Source:First off, great service! Now for the food... The huevos rancheros are humongous, delicious and my breakfast companions agree that they are probably the best deal on the menu. I also really enjoyed 'the volcano' which included more than enough pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage make a nap (food-coma) seem very tempting. Â All around this is a great place to get a meal!
Review Source:Decent coffee shop/diner serving breakfast and lunch food in the historical district of McCloud.
We got a $20 credit to spend here so we paid $5 dollars in addition to our breakfast credit since we stayed at the Mercantile B&B.
It opens at 8am. Friendly service. I got a vegetable omelet, tea, and wheat toast.
Standard breakfast fare. Hash browns were good. Not oily which I like.
We had breakfast here cos we had $20 credit for staying at Mccloud River Mercantile Hotel. It seems like quite a few locals eat here as well.
We had the vegetarian omelette with hash browns and a pancake/egg/bacon/sausage combo. I think the online menu is not updated... I think we paid about $8.95 for each item, which was a good deal with the $20 credit. With coffee, tea and tax, we ended up a few dollars over, which was ok.
The omelette was supposed to come with toast, which never appeared, but there was more than enough food so I didn't ask for it. The omelette was amazing! I'd definitely eat that again! Hash was good. Not too oily. I'm not a fan of hash but my husband loved it.
Pancakes were not great so I'd stick with the omelettes next time. Good food and one of the best "complementary" hotel breakfasts I've ever had. I'd definitely eat there again.
Wednesday, July 22: Â Lunch
Ok, very nice. Â A good find. Â My mom tells me that the last restaurant in this location closed up and that this one has been around a couple of years. Â I had a Chicken Club, and the Momerator had a BLT. Â We both took home half because we couldn't finish ours. Â Ok fries.
But the service was great. Â The cook also took orders and between her and another waitperson, we were well taken care of. Â
In addition to the cook light bulbs, the overhead fans are awsome. Â Hard to describe, but picture two old fashioned metal fans hanging from a rotating piece. Â The fans are mounted at a 45-degree angle......Naw, I can't describe it. Â You will all have to hop in your cars and drive to McCloud. Â Every last darn one of you.
Great stop for lunch on the way to McCloud Falls.
Atmosphere and great food. I had probably one of the best Albacore Salad (a.k.a. Tuna Sandwich) that I've ever had. The seasoning and balance of dressing with a slice of cheddar was delicious. Fries were goo. Hubby had the Monterey (turkey, ham and cheese melt). He loved it.
It's a quaint diner with unique lights (as shown by another reviewer) and the feel of the old times. Cute town with shops next door. Great service, too.
I love finding a great breakfast spot.  This restaurant is located in the Historic Mercantile Building on Main St.  in McCloud, right next to the Dinner Train (which I haven't been on yet).  They have good coffee & I really enjoyed my black bean huevos rancheros.  If you've ever been to the store Restoration Hardware, that's what the interior looks like, except it's the real deal  Most tourists seem to eat breakfast in Mt. Shasta, but so far the Cornerstone in Dunsmuir & the White Mountain Cafe' in McCloud are my favorite in this area.
