My Husband decided we needed a night away and suggested we drive to Clinton from the Chicago Suburbs on Saturday 2/16/13. We have been there a couple of times and enjoyed our visit. it is only 2 hours from Aurora and and easy drive down 88 and 30. Â We arrived around 3pm and asked the pit supervisor when the Let It Ride Table would open. He was very accomodating and said he would get it open in 5 minutes and he did. The table started to fill up with regulars including a woman who had won a royal flush on Valentines day! The regulars and dealers where very nice. Especially Elaine and Mary who was her break person. Â I sat at the table from 3pm till after midnight on my original $100 buy in until the cards went cold. My husband wasn't so lucky and left to play some slots, settling in at the Cats slot where he had a lot of play time.
We left the table at 7pm and went to the buffet. They were featuring Steak night at $12.99 per person. Â This is the only low point of the trip. The buffet, while convenient and fast was not so great. Â The male attendant did not have any medium steaks ready but when they came out he plated it, and brought it to our table. Very nice! The host who sat us was a robot and had poor people skills. The server was efficient and brought our beverage and refreshed them and cleared the table. As for the food- ick, the variety was sparse. Â The steak reminded me of Ponderosa steak. The fried chicken was so dry I could not eat it. They also had a stew, some other type of beef and rice dish. The salad area was very limited. Â So if you decide to eat do not go to the buffet. Go to the Coaches Corner ( more later).
Since it was getting late and we did not want to drive home we check in the hotel and they had a non smoking room available. We are smokers but no issue there.. The room was on the second floor. Very clean and nicely decorated. Two queen beds with plenty of pillows. The room was $99 plus tax. A decent price for a Saturday. There was also a wedding going on in the hotels banquest room on the other side of the hotel/ casino.
The table games remained pretty busy until just before midnight but there was never really a wait to play. Nice table minimums of $5 and only$2 on roulette. Â The slots had a decent variety ( bring back Kitty Glitter!) Â The older lady pit supervisor was a bit rude to our dealer Elaine when she called a change $100. Â She seemed stressed but it was a bit uncomfortable at the table when she said sharply to Elaine, I am busy! Â But later she seemed to chill out a bit and was nicer.
The bed was OK a bit hard but other than that no issues. The room had dark curtains that kept the lights outside from shining in. Don't know what others are complaining about. The room came with a free continental breakfast from 7am-9am in the lobby but we slept later.
We at at Coaches Corner for Lunch on Sunday. The Ruben was good as was the onion rings. My husband enjoyed the pork tenderlin sandwich. Service was better and the restaurant was clean. We spent a few hours playing and had to head back.
I recommend the Wildwood casino for a day trip or weekend. Â Your gambling $ goes farther with the lower table limits vs those in and around Chicago. The atmosphere is more homey and the regulars and dealers are much nicer. I noticed a lot of the staff recognized the players and were welcoming and friendly. So worth the drive! We will be back! They also had some nice weekly promotions that benefit the casual gambler.
My wife and I visited the Coaches Corner after driving up from St. Louis to visit family. Â We were hungry and wanted a beer along with our meal. Â
When we arrived on a Friday night around 9:00, the place was dead. Â It seemed there were more staff than people. Â After being seated, we each ordered a burger and two beers. Â While waiting for our food, the waitress came over to check on us. Â We asked for two more beers. Â She said she couldn't. Â We were puzzled. Â She said the casino had a rule where you could only have a beer once every half hour. Â What?! Â I understood that she has no control over the rule, but this is ridiculous. Â Because of that alone, I will not go back to Coaches Corner to eat ever again. Â The burger wasn't great, but the beer rule alone keeps me from returning.
