I wanted to take my mom on a California wine tasting experience and The Wine Room did it for us!
They were super friendly, and the variety of wines they had for tasting were incredible. Â Everything from super dry (for me) to super sweet (for mom)... Â I also thought their policy for tasting as much as you wanted was great.
The topper was that it is DOG FRIENDLY... and I capitalize this because these folks are real dog lovers. Â I brought my neurotic border collie along with (after taking her for a long run on the beach) and she was more than welcome. Â There were treats and water for her... and everyone was willing to kick around the tennis ball for her. Â
I plan on bringing more folks up there as soon as I can!
Our first stop on the "Heart of Sonoma" summer event -- which, btw -- is an amazing value. Â $20, tastings at 13 participating wineries for the whole weekend. Â Pretty incredible.
Great family-feel, friendly folks, specializes in smaller label wines and the proprietors are very dog friendly/ crazy. Â They offer a service that lets you label wine purchases with your dog's photo. Â Another nice touch for the event was that they prepared some wine cocktails and offered us recipes to take home.
They have a beautiful expansive lawn for your pup to frolic in, some picnic benches for a nice lunch break, and a water bowl for your 4-legged friend.
What a fun little wine tasting room. Â They love dogs. Â You can bring yours inside.
Large grassy lawn for your picnic. Â Right up on Hwy 12, so it ain't quiet, but the view across the valley is gorgeous.
Wines are good quality. Moondance label is featured.
The tasting will take you a minimum of 45 minutes as you're going to taste a lot of different wines. Â You will catch a buzz.
Ladies: Â Check out the surprise in the restroom!
Came to The Wine Room as part of the Heart of Sonoma Valley Barrel Tasting Event. Â The Wine Room is one of the smaller wineries in the Sonoma Valley and just sits right off of the 12. Â Unlike most of the wineries the Wine Room is a compilation of several small wineries. Â Due to the size of these small wineries the amount that they produced is very limited. Â They had a couple of whites and some reds, but what really stood out were the Ports. Â The Ports here was excellent. Â Probably some of the better Ports Vie had in a while. Â The food tasting here was also excellent. Â Was very pleased with different dishes they served with the wine. Â The Chicken Salad that they served with one of the Whites was probably one of my most favorite pairings of the day.
They also had a live Jazz Band Playing. Â This was the only place playing live must and it was greatly appreciated. Â So here is how I would rate the Wine Room:
Tasting Room/Grounds: Â 4 Stars
Food Pairing: 4 Stars
Wine: Â 4 Stars
Extras: 4 Stars
Overall, if you like Ports, this is worth a stop and gets a solid 4 star!
The Bay Area, Mini-Trinity College Reunion/Bachelorette Party hopped into a limo  bright and early on this 70-degree Saturday and headed for the Sonoma Valley. Â
Our second and favorite stop of the day was at The Best Damn Tasting Room in the Valley. Â As promised, the winemakers were on hand, pouring their own wines and ports. Â We didn't even know we liked ports! Â We tasted all five Sonoma Valley Portworks' offerings, each one not better, but different, than the last. Â The climax? Â When Bill, the winemaker, revealed that the Aris Port is a perfect match with Stilton blue cheese... and he happened to have a wedge of Stilton behind the bar. Â Too bad he didn't have any of his wife's brown butter cheese cake, which apparently pairs well with the Duet Cream Sherry (which smells EXACTLY like almonds, btw).
I never thought the Bonbon Queen would say this, but I could forgo dessert for port... did I say forgo? Â I meant complement! Complement dessert with port!
The bottom line: Yelpers - Stop ya noise, and get your asses to The Wine Room to taste Bill's Aris and Stilton! Â
ERF
P.S. Â The Wine Room is dog friendly! Â (I could have brought Sylvie after all, although I'm not sure how Steve The Limo Driver would have felt about that.) Â And I'd buy the Friendly Dog wines for the labels alone!
Geena continued to pour long after I tasted my 5 dollars worth. Â
What a fabulous place! Â It's a co-op of a few wineries who have a real "for the fun of it" attitude. Â
Geena served us a vertical tasting of all the cab's, served cheese with the port and spoke knowledgeably about the vintners and their histories.
I usually prefer a tasting room on the estate, but I had so much fun at the Wine room that it deserves 5 stars.
Oh! Â And bring your dog, they're very welcome. Â Can you beat that!
