Wooden Nickel Saloon

Stopped in for a Burrito on Saturday afternoon,  the food was great, the burrito was tasty, and the waitress was friendly.  The new bar is missing the Bar Lighting, and the wood floors needed to be a cozy local bar.  I would turn the lights down and darken the windows, to give you the night life feel in the day....Maybe put an Entrance Label on the side doors, so you know which door to go in.   If your out this way, stop in for a burrito......

The Wooden Nickel may be one of the best kept secrets (off the beaten path) in Mid-Michigan. Granted - it is a lot of standard bar food - but the owner knows what he is doing and the food is really -really great tasting.

Very sizeable portions. Pizza - excellent. Baked sub - half an order and you are about full. Burritos are another great item and large to boot.

To adjust the previous comments on here - the old Wooden Nickel Saloon was a dive bar. You were not going to take your date there for some romantic time together. But, Dansville is a VERY small farming community. You barely breath before you are through the main crossroads and heading out of town.

The Nickel fit the town - and (in its own way) had become a bit of an icon. This was definitely the place you met up with some locals or friends to have a beer and a bite.

It is too bad the Nickel and surrounding block caught on fire and burned down. I have heard the owner is still doing catering and has opened up some of the business again (particularly pizza) - while he does rebuild.

I hope it happens - because the town and area needs a place like the Nickel. It won't be the same - in its own grungy dive way - but maybe the owner will also open a renewed place - that is more current to what some are looking for in a place to meet and eat.

I hope to see this bar/restaurant rise again.

The old Wooden Nickel Saloon went up in flamed a while back. They have been told they can not rebuild in the original site. Therefore, they took over the building behind the original site. They are mainly doing pizza and bar service with a small dining area and outdoor patio. Not a great sight, but the pizza is decent.
