The Yellow Retriever

This is one of those places that you've driven past a million times but never stopped in because you're just not sure what it's supposed to be. The sign says "Yellow Retriever Pub & Grill" giving the impression that it might be an English style pub. After all, what God-fearing Texan would name a bar "The Yellow Retriever" and call it a "pub." Well, curiosity got the best of me and I stopped in on a Thursday evening.  

My anticipation that I might have stumbled upon a gem (English Pub tucked away in the woods of Magnolia) quickly turned to disappointment.

The Yellow Retriever is nothing more than a small, generic, low-end, bar that serves decent food.  It is small, dark, smokey, loud. Perfect if you live nearby and are looking for an excuse to get out of the double-wide.

I tried the "Bar Stool" burger (mushrooms, grilled onions, swiss cheese) and my buddy had the Cali Burger (fresh avacado slices and bacon). We shared the fried jalapeno slices for an appetizer.  The generous burgers appeared to be hand made,
the fries were crisp and not greasy at all.  Other than needing to wipe my bunghole with ice cubes the next morning, I had no complaints about the fried jalapenos.  The food was very reasonably priced. Everything was good, but nothing was great.

If you're a hungry local and you don't mind smoke and loud jukeboxes this might be your kinda place.

Delicious & great service. Definitely try the TBA and the Cali. Will be back!

Went here last night (tried to check in, but I had to create it first) after a family function. I have passed by this little place so many times and just wondered away about it was like.

The parking is a bit scarce but I think it's one of those places that you just "make" your own spot if you can't find one. The inside was just the way a neighborhood dive should be. Dark wood, good tunes coming out of the juke box, dart boards, menus just sitting on the tables, and lots of regulars.

I was starving so I ended up getting a burger. This was my only complaint. The food took over 30 minutes to get there. That is ridiculous. However, notice the 4 star review? That is how good the food and service was. My drink never got empty, the girl didn't care that we switched tables, and the food was yummy greasy country-cooking goodness.

If I wasn't in a hurry to meet up with my family, I could see this place being a fun time for hanging out and shooting darts with friends.
