A solid family restaurant that's one of the few eateries nearby to local attractions George Washington Birthplace Historical Monument http://www.nps.gov/gewa/ and Robert E. Lee's Stratford Hall. Â A friendly greeting welcomed us on a cold, wet Saturday for a late lunch. Â The menu keeps it simple and offers good value. Â On this day we were offered drink and entree specials. Â You won't drown in the $2 mimosas or bloody marys, but your wallet won't be that much lighter either. Â The crab cake sandwich was filling for only $8 including a side. The 1/2 dozen fried local oysters at $7 were delicious, each being slightly more than a mouthful, but perfectly fried in a light batter although for only $1 the sandwich is a better deal.
Review Source:While spending a few days at the nearby Inn at Montross we were directed to this as a good, local place to enjoy a good meal.
We were greeted and seated pretty fast and opted for the outdoor patio. Although it was outdoors the tables were clean and the bugs were few. We only discovered a nearby smoker after we finished our meal so will keep that in mind the next time we have an indoor/outdoor choice.
Both of our salads came out fast and had real leaf lettuce and some beautiful red tomatoes. My salad with Italian was great while my wife's salad was also good but the Blue cheese was average.
Both of our meals were prepared perfectly, were fairly large and very tasty. The home made bread was the best part. Our desserts were very good but probably not made on site.
All in all the meal was good and served hot and quickly. Our server was good but seemed a bit overworked. It did not seem to affect our service but we did not ask for much either.
Enjoyed the meal and sent a few others there as well.
The food was very good, however the service was terrible. We had a party of 5 and we asked for more bread, the waitress told us it would be right out. Â We than finished our meal and the waitress didn't show back up until it was time to clear our plates. Â She then said "oh, I think the bread is still cooking. It should be almost done did you still want it?" Â We ended up passing on the bread and settled on dessert. I asked the waitress if she recommended the cake or pie she suggested the chocolate pie so that's what I ordered. Â Imagine my surprise when she quickly dropped off the cake (not pie) and scurried off. We didn't see her again and after a piece of chocolate cake (which ended up being very good) was sitting in front of me for so long I decided to go ahead and eat the cake . The waitress only showed back up to give us the bill.
