Stopped here while traveling. We were actually looking for a Subway, but couldn't find it. We wanted a BLT sub, but they refused to make it for us. Even though they had all of the ingredients. The service was VERY slow. It took them 15 minutes to get us our drinks, then another 10 to check back for our order. Â We ended up paying for our drinks and walking out. There is no excuse for saying NO to a request when you have all of the ingredients handy.
Review Source:I visited Zachary's Pizza this past Labor Day, Monday. Â It was not my first time at Zachary's but now, thanks to Yelp, I can write about my experience. Â They do it right at Zachary's. Â In fact, they do it so right that I drive 1 hour and 45 minutes from Wilmington for their Italian sausage pizza. Â What makes it so delicious? Â Handmade, old-family-recipe pizza dough that is crispy and so flavorful. Â You can taste the love they put in that dough. Â Then, they use the REAL, and I mean chunks, of real Italian sausage, not that processed, pre-cooked crap that looks like rabbit pellets. Â The cheese is also a high quality mozzarella, which is a key indicator of a quality pizza. Â I ordered the Zachary's Special pizza, which was loaded with veggies and meat. Â I also ordered the Greek salad and since I am half Greek, I am always skeptical at what some restaurants try to pass off as Greek salad. Â The salad was made with crispy, crispy lettuce and not too heavy on the delicious olive oil and vinegar dressing with just the right amount of Feta cheese, pepperoccinis, sliced onions and High quality Kalamata olives (my mouth is watering as I type this). Â It was soooo delicious. Â I have also tried their pasta, which Jimmy Zachary made special for me. It was made with sun dried tomatoes, cheese tortellini, a little bit of crisped bacon and the lightest of cream sauces with a pinch of parmesan ... YUUUUUMMMMMY!!!! Â Jimmy was kind enough to share the recipe with me and it is one of the favorites in our house. Â My boyfriend's son loves it. Â Yes, their building needs a face lift, but trust me when I tell you this is a delicious diamond just off of I-95. Â
Go Greek...they know how to cook with love and passion and it is delicious!!!! I love the family feel and the service is wonderful.
Stopped here after Tarpacker's was closed for no apparent reason. M and I were starving and Zachary's was the only other place in town with a Yelp review (have I mentioned that all our roadside meals are dictated by Yelpers?).
We entered to find an old school pizza joint. Very reminiscent of pretty much every small town. Laminate booths, faux wood paneling, signs written on paper plates. It must be a converted fast food joint or something... the bathrooms are outside and completely beyond disgusting. There's also a drive-thru window which is really weird... do people wait 10 minutes at a drive-thru window for pizza to cook? Or did they call in an order and are just too lazy to get out of their car to grab it? Weird.
Anyways, the place has zero ambiance. Really just pretty depressing. The waitress was really trying, though-- the second star is just for her. She was quick to refill drinks and kept coming over to see if we needed anything. I think she could tell we were from out of town and was taking pity on us.
The food was blah at best. The pizza tasted like something I might get in the freezer section and make in the microwave. The salad dressing was good but the salad itself was just huge pieces of iceberg.
There have to be better options, I just couldn't tell ya where.
I'll start by saying the calzones are good, but there is much more to a dining experience than just the food. The Restaurant is in desperate need of updating, but what really turned us off was the overt disdain for any customer service. The first clue are all the little notes and signs that let you know what you CAN'T to if you dine here. To name just a few we saw: You can't bring in anything to flavor your water. You can't place a to go order and then decide to eat in without getting added charges. On the menu, under the dinner salad it says (printed on the menu and laminated) "must be ordered with an entree, not served individually or by themselves". All very off-putting, and there were lots more. Then, to top it off they have calzones on their menu, and list regular and premium ingredients, but if you order a calzone with chicken and mushrooms (which would be $6.50 plus the $1.75 for the chicken listed as a "premium topping" and $1.25 for the mushrooms) they will charge you instead for a "grilled chicken calzone" at $9.50 AND add the $1.25 for the mushrooms, grabbing an extra couple of bucks in the process. When we tried to express our concern to the waitress, we were told "that's just the way we do it when you order chicken on a calzone". Â If principles don't matter to you and you like being treated like a source of income and not a customer, then you may enjoy eating here. If you have any self respect and feel that the reason for a Restaurant is to offer you a service, you should avoid stopping in here.
Review Source:This place used to be a hop, skip, and a jump from my house. The calzones, gyros, house subs, and most of all the house pizzas are DELICIOUS and not soggy!
As stated by others, the atmosphere isn't the best and it can be a bit pricey but it's worth the drive for great food every time!
