I think I had a better experience here than others - this is 3 stars with some benefit of the doubt. I don't think it's two, but see my note at the end. My entree was the wiener schnitzel, which was not make with veal, but was pretty decent. Enough meat to taste like meat, good breading, lemon to squeeze on top, and served with a potato, roll, and the salad bar. The salad bar could use some work - not a lot to see, just a bowl of kind of wilted looking lettuce that my family would refer to as "cow lettuce." There's nothing wrong with iceberg, but would it kill you to throw in some romaine?
I know they do make a point of trying to get stuff local, so if you came here in the summer you could probably get some really dynamite produce. But in the winter, maybe pickings were slimmer. Honestly, this is probably as good as it gets in Hubbard. But chances are if you're here, you're here with family, and you could probably cook just as satisfying a meal at home.
A Â mom n' pop place that serves ubiquitous small town fare. Burgers, Hot Beef sandwiches, corn, and specials covered in brown gravy. Â I'll be up front and honest: these overly-beige, meat and potato meals don't trip my trigger. But they might be just what someone you know is looking for. Â For me I had a hard time choosing something to eat, but settled on a Reuben. Others in my party chose the scalloped potatoes and ham, and the remaining half serving of rouladen, a German specialty stuffed meat roll that was heralded in the literature that brought us here.
My sandwich was falling apart soggy, over drenched in Thousand Island dressing and sauerkraut juice. There was no swiss to hold the contents together and the pumpernickel was under toasted. I ended up having to eat it with a fork and knife. Couple it with some under cooked fries and it was a real bummer. Â My more "senior" companions however seemed much more enthused with their offerings. Â Perhaps that's their target audience. Â Positives from my relations coupled with genuinely kind and attentive service boost this rating, but a return visit for me would require my capitulation to the tastes of my older family members.
I hate to do this, but my most recent meal here was sub-par. Â I don't expect haut cuisine at these places, but my grilled chcken breast was not good. Â They need to learn a little technique. Â It was very dry and stringy. Â It needed to be pounded a little, brined a little and seasoned a little. Â So simple. Â I don't want ot mislead, I will go back, when I am visiting in the area, but don't expect too much.
My salad bar was fresh and fine. Â The baked potato was normal. Â My Aunt had a grilled sirloin and it looked pretty good. Â It was cooked right and had a good grill crust. Â She did have to battle with some tough connective tissue, but she said it tasted good.
