Finding this place was a happy accident. Our need to eat just happened to coincide with the freeway exit.
I had the mushroom-Swiss burger and a huckleberry ale, made next door at the local brewery. I ordered the burger medium and, as happens more often than not, it was well done. Sad trumpets for that. Â Other than the overcooking of the burger, it was delicious. The bun was definitely NOT store bought, the cheese was plentiful, the onions perfectly caramelized, and the mushrooms were fresh and bursting out of the bun.
My companion had the smoked German sausage sandwich with sauerkraut on a hoagie roll, as well as batter-dipped french fries. He reports that it was delicious, thank you very much.
The service wasn't all that awesome. Maybe it was the time of the evening. Maybe it was because it was a Monday night. The place seemed to be crawling with early-20 something employees who were doing everything BUT providing decent service. Once my food was served, our waitress literally NEVER returned to see how we liked our meal or to refill a beverage. I got the attention of a different 20-something dude at the end of the meal by waving my arms over my head, in a desperate "can I get the frickin' bill" sort of way.
I liked the meal all in all and enjoyed the atmosphere. But the service needs some serious help.
We came here to Wallace today, and this was where I wanted to eat lunch. We were a little early for most the stores to be open, so we came in here for coffee. We ordered the breakfast sandwich and all three of us enjoyed them very much. The English muffin is very soft , the huge slice of ham topped with a huge slab of scrambled eggs makes a great light breakfast , and all for $3.75. The place is very eclectic and worth a stop into.
Review Source:We were looking for a good place to eat on the long drive from Portland to Glacier National Park. We looked this place up on Yelp and it sounded good, so we stopped in. The food was indeed tasty, as was the beer. The decor is a hoot. Make sure you take a good look around and enjoy all the weird and random items. If we're ever passing through during dinnertime again we'll be sure to stop in.
Review Source:Great Burger, Great Fries (nice and crispy), and great local beers! Â Service was good and the locals were friendly. Â I was expecting a little dive bar with the reviews I read on yelp, but its a nice clean place. I will stop here whenever I go through Wallace. Â Looks to be a nice little town. Â I need to make more time and walk around more. Â The burger picture is true to what their food looks like.
Review Source:Have you ever tried to feed my family? I'm not talking my immediate family, I'm talking my extended, prolific, apparently very fertile and undeniably hungry family. I have, and it is no easy task.
One early August morning, I found myself in my ancestral home of Wallace, Idaho, partaking of the interesting and informational Sierra Silver Mine Tour with about 40 of my nearest and dearest family members, ages ranging from 3-73. Upon finishing the tour, we found ourselves collectively peckish. Where to go, where to go.
Being the Center of the Universe, Wallace is not lacking in fine eating establishments. We considered the Smokehouse, cast a loving glance toward Albi's, but decided on the 1313 Club. Without calling ahead. A group of 40.
And they totally rocked it. Â They sat us in the back room where the wee ones could run amok w/o annoying other patrons, tho that limited my enjoyment of the rustic decor. Our waitress was equal parts unflappable and infallible, and could wield multiple plates heavy with food with skill and precision. Drink and app orders were taken and served seamlessly, entree orders grabbed as the drinks were being served. No one was left waiting or wanting, everyone received exactly what they ordered in a timely fashion.
As to the quality of the food, it was solid, not over the top fantastic, save for the onion rings that blew my mind. I had the buffalo burger, and it was well-prepared - a little crumbly, but not dried out. Hand cut fries, of course. Local micros on tap. And a menu varied enough to satisfy the finicky wee ones and our resident vegetarian.
So if you ever wake up to find yourself in the Center of the Universe, remember 1313 is your lucky number.
After walking around the city, and spending a little time at the center of the universe, my friends and I were parched. We had happened to park in front of the 1313 club when we decided to make the small detour to Wallace.
The place is charming. The bar is inviting for the wary traveler on the right wall. The restaurant proper is fairly large. We happened to be there at the same time that the city counsel (we guessed) was meeting around a large table.
The bartender was super nice. She served us three ice cold bottles of Miller (Bud?) Light. We took our time with the beers as we took in the knickknacks and clever bumper stickers at the bar. When it was time to leave, we asked for the total. $6. What?? $6 for a light beer? Nope. $6 for 3 light beers. Having all just spent a snow season in Canada, we all just about fell off our stools at the price. We were almost tempted to get a second round. Alas, it was time to continue on our odyssey.
