The music was decent, I didnt see a juke box so I'm assuming it was pandora or satelite radio. Looked like 5 regulars in the place and the manager guy was in a tank top and flip flops carrying a gun on his side (is Lincoln center that bad these days?). We had asked for food but they had nothing to serve. The drinks were moderately priced  for what we got but we were refered here by a friend so we decided to try it out. The womens bathroom was dirty and had a bad smell to it (per my wife). We did however get filled in on the latest gossip as the manager was complaining the whole time about the other local establishments. Not good business being you never know whos in yours. In a nutshell I would say this is the first and last time we will be coming here. No food, dirty bathrooms (while there was obviously time to clean it), good drinks (I had a beer and my wife a "Pink" drink) and plenty of gossip make for a 2 star rating at best. I think we will be going to Valley Brew from now on.

So it was my birthday yesterday and some friends of mine and family members wanted to make it out for drinks.  So we decided to go to 856.  I've never heard of this place because I'm actually visiting from Atlanta, GA.  I'm in my fitted Gap jeans and a button up Guess shirt with a baseball cap on.  Everyone is dressed nice and appropriately (after attending a all white affair).  We roll up to this establishment and it seemed to be  pretty  light on patrons (which seemed odd at this time of night).  When we walk up to the entrance the Security guard says "SORRY GUYS ITS GUEST LIST ONLY".  So i proceed to ask about getting on this "so called" guest list.   The security guard says well to get on the guest list you have to "like" our Facebook page and we will review your page and if there is nothing "ghetto" on your page we "might" let you in.  I'm like okay there is something very fishy about this.  Yea I'm a 6'3" 210lb black guy but I also have more class then probably everybody there.  After a few exchanges (out of unfair treatment) we leave and head to West Lane bowling alley.  Well some of my other friends were suppose to meet us up at 856.  They were able to get in with no problem (and were not privy of any guest list).  So the girls who got in left and met up with my party and myself.  I came back with only the girls that got in (my party that was with me went home) because the security guard knew that our discussion  mentioned some racial profiling bullshit which he denied.  The security guard was looking dumb when he saw that I had arrived with the same girls he just let in with no issue. So he decides to let me in with out a hassle or mentioning any "so called" guest list again.  So my conclusion of this establishment is that they are in fact racial profiling people and deflecting people they don't want to come in.  I'm originally from Stockton but I've been away for a while now.  I had no clue this type of mess still is continuing out here. Hey 856 Here's a tip:  If you want to attract a certain Caliber of people, how about enforcing a strict guest code next time!

Love this place. Saturdays are usually packed. The bartenders are friendly. The restroom is always well kept. The atmosphere is a place to get away in Stockton but at the same time feeling like your out of town. Also no drama if any cops are around the corner almost always.

I've never really been a fan of this place, it seems like a non-stop Lincoln High School reunion (much like another very popular bar in town....) for people to get drunk, start drama, and make everyone else there miserable.

What's sad is that the drinks and food here are awesome, the only reason I'd give it another star, but some of the patrons can be real scum bags. Maybe I came in on the wrong days? Either way, not worth visiting again.

I frequent here about, once a season? HAHA.

Usually a good time but that depends on the crowd and the music. 856 had an identity disorder because it seems like every time I come here, something is different about it.

First was the pool table in the dancing area. A plus for chill nights when all you wanna do is hang out. A no-no when the crowd wants to dance and get giggy with it. HAHA.

Second were the couches?? And not just small lounge couches. These are GIGANTIC to the point where someone can sleep on them! A little weird to be sitting there and having an ass shake in your face!

Third, was their VIP area? REALLY?! How VIP is a couch in a corner with a velvet rope blocking others from coming in and out? Not hot.

Drinks are overall O.K. Unless you go to the right bartender, you're prob paying good money for toppers like sprite or coke.

The only GREAT time i've ever had here was when a girlfriend and I came SUPER wasted and heard, what is now our party anthem, for the first time, "Patron Tequila" by the Paradisco Girls. HAHA.

This place is a def hit or miss type of place. Can be fun when people are actually there and can be as dull as a door knob when dead.

Explore Stockton because there are better places!

Just your average place. Night life there is the same anywhere else. Drink, stand, chat with people. Their food is ok. I like their meatloaf. Selection doesnt compare to other places. Service is good or bad depending on who is working at the time.

Overall: I think I saw a bevmo down the street. Cheaper and effective.

It wasnt what I expected at first. Its pretty small, only 4 tables to eat at. The workers were very friendly. I liked how they would stop by to chit chat and joke a lil. The food was great! Loved it. Gotta try the Angus Bacon Burger with Mushrooms. The waitress recomended a drink I never heard of. The bartender explained how drink was made and even poured me a free shot to try it it out. It was great and may be one of my new favroite drinks. It was the Whip it & Blackmaker. I recomend it.

I've been here a few times throughout my college years just for drinks and some dancing when we don't feel like driving to Taste or Bradley's.  I think one of their bartenders used to work at Envy and he makes good drinks.  Its a little crowded because people tend to stick around behind people at the bar and let's just say they aren't the smallest people.

Cover charge depends on if they're packed or not.  Usually, cover charge is $5 after 10pm, but most likely, you don't need to pay because it might be dead.  This place is more for older ladies and gents.  The DJ plays music for the older crowd...mostly 80's and only some current music.

Will I come back?  Maybe not after I heard about the shooting last week.

We used to go to 856 a lot. Brandy is the BEST bartender in town. We like Jerry, he's a nice guy. Never expect too much in Stockton but it works.

After the other night we won't go back. The dark haired girl that checks IDs and charges cover is a rude bitch. She ALWAYS has an attitude. I don't know how she is still employed there. After seeing a few other reviews referencing her, I'm not at all surprised.

That being said, we were told cover wouldn't start until 10:30-10:45 by a man who answered the phone. It wasn't packed. When we showed up at 10:10 or so, she wouldn't honor it, so we left. Bad business ethics. Bad attitude.

I'd advise going to The Ave on Miracle Mile or taking a short drive out to Lodi. Most of the time no cover, and a better experience for your money.

You could probably catch me here every other weekend. Out of all the bars/clubs in Stockton I feel the most comfortable here.

The bartenders here are pretty good. The drinks never taste nasty, yet they don't skimp on the alcohol and they use the big glasses/cups not those small ones other places use.

I don't like being in small, loud, and crowded places, so its great that you can get away from it and go outside on the patio. Most of the time I'll be outside where you can actually hear peoples conversations.

+4 stars for a place where I can relax and have a drink.
-1 star for the security guard for spraying me in the face with pepper spray.

Decided to go clubbing/ bar in my hometown for the first time since I left for college and took a risk at this lounge. The place was decent size wasn't too crowded for a Friday night, pretty clean, great outdoor patio, music was good (hip hop), and most of all pretty good crowd. It wasn't ghetto and the drinks were around $9. All and all it really doesn't matter where I went as long as I was with great company, which was my family, I had a blast!

Disclaimer: I'm not one of those people that expects an insanely high class bar in Stockton. Also I do enjoy dancing at clubs - however, I did not originally go to 856 to do that. So with that I will start my rant.

My friends and I used to frequent this place before it changed owners. Back then I would've given it 4 stars. The bartenders were nice, the food was good, and it was a nice place to hang out and talk to people without many distractions. There was some music playing - and sports games on the TV, which was also a nice touch (if you go early enough though you can still watch some sports games on the TV - you will probably also be one of the very few people there. Now a days it seems like 856 doesn't get crowded until about 10pm on Friday and Saturday - the rest of the days there isn't really much of a crowd). Even the people who came in to 856 were cool - we all made a few friends there back in the day. It was a great place to chill in other words. That was when I was 21(and the bartenders were also great with recommending drinks to the newly legal). In fact I even remember going there on my 21st birthday for a few legal drinks and some food.

Fast forward to the present. The kitchen isn't always open - my friends and I have gone a few times and the kitchen seems to be hit or miss? Perhaps I'm wrong since I haven't been there in a bit - but the last time I went, which wasn't too long ago - no food. We were bummed to say the least. Now it's also turned into some "dance club" at night with horrid music that you can often hear blasting in the Safeway parking lot and snobby people running around. Plus it also seems like there are always cops around that area - I don't really remember that being the case when I was 21. What happened to the good old days when people could just come to eat, chill, and have a few drinks eh? And by the way I'm not that old - I'm 23 now. What a difference two years make!

The bartenders are okay - there are still a few cool ones left who will make you a good drink, but otherwise it's not really worth your time for the money - cover charge plus the costs of drinks (which can be a bit pricey for the average college student just trying to go in for a few drinks before happy hour is over - hey I'm a Pacific Alum I know what it's like!).

    One word: Ew.

I see that a lot of yelpers are giving way more stars than this place deserves. I know, I know, it's Stockton so I can't have high expectations or anything but that's no excuse for 856's nastiness!

If I wanted to go out and 856 was my only option, then I would much rather stay home in my PJs. I honestly have no idea how this place gets away with charging a cover fee. This ain't LA or Vegas. Who do you think you are? Even with the free cover on college nights I don't think I'll return here. Everything about this place is just no good!

Okay, I've been here just to dine and to party.

Dine- I do not know what happened, but they did not have anything available when I came in. I think I came during a bad time, when the kitchen was un-stock and there was no chef doing inventory!  I had to go with what they had, Ribs. The ribs were not as bad, I would order them again, but I knocked them down two stars for first, being unorganized, and two not having what I wanted in the first place.

As a bar- okay I would never ever want to pay 10-20 dollars for an experience waiting to happen. When I go it is either a friday or saturday night, haven't been there on college night ever since taste opened, so I wouldn't know how that is like. Back to the cover charge, that's ridiculous. Are you kidding me? I get out of work around 9-10 so it takes time for me to get ready, so I never make it in time to get in for free which sucks. I don't even know why I pay! this place is crowded and is not spacious at all. I would rather just hang out in their patio! that's bigger than the dance floor. The drinks there are pretty pricey depending on what you drink. I normally take shots, so those are pretty pricey there. I think the atmosphere can change, and the quality of the team members working there. It takes forever to get drinks if the place gets crowded.. and I don't ever feel welcomed by the bartenders. SMile people!

This place gets 4 stars thanks to relativity - because it's in Stockton.  In any other town, it'd probably get a 3.

I've only been here at night, usually come before the partiers show up and have stayed until an hour or two before shut-down.  It's not a bad spot.  A little cramped around the bar when people start pouring in but never packed on the dance floor.  The DJs are hit or miss, some play good music, some change songs too often, some play songs that just confuse everyone.

The food is pretty good...yum, sweet potato fries...and the crowd here isn't as...gross...as the usual club crowds.

Enough people will dance so that you're not dancing alone but not enough so that the dance floor is a happenin' place.  I guess it all depends on the music.

It being in the Lincoln Center, there's plenty of parking.  No dress code and I think they only charge cover on REALLY packed nights.

This is the typical "bar with a dance floor" venue that Stockton seems to be littered with (for better or worse). The place has a loyal following and you can expect it to be packed on most Friday/Saturday nights.

The crowd generally consists of Affliction shirts and Ed Hardy style gear, so draw your own conclusions. I've had a few good times here, and the DJ is usually on point with solid mixes, so it's worth a visit if you want to get out locally

Fun Fact: A guy once whipped out a camera to show my date he owned "a mansion in downtown Stockton" while I went to the bathroom. When I returned he scampered away to try and buy the next young thing a drink. You have to love Stockton!

Should be called 8-5-sh*t. Lame, lame and more lame. Why is there a $10 cover for a bar/dance floor the size of my bathroom?  My manorexic ass was bumpin into people all damn night!

Another negative - the girl checking ID and collecting money had a shi*** attitude. And she looked all kinds of tore up. I mean damn, if you're gonna throw attitude at least be cute and look presentable!

It was alright for a Thursday in Stockton.  Not too many people that day.  They had a DJ spinning and he had the Music videos to go along with the music that was playing that night.  Thought that was pretty clean.  They have a cool patio area and plenty of parking.  The drinks were pretty good. I'd say they are a bit limited, just because they didn't have my 151 handy.  Didn't have to pay a cover because we got there a lil before 11.  I'd go back.

Went with a friend on college night Thursdays which is free with college i.d.  The dj played a mix of "late 90's" and current music. I liked that the song playing corresponded with the screens they had, but I guess it messes up the flow if anyone wants to request a song. Decently crowded for a Thursday night.

Was it me or the ladies bathroom have serious lighting issues. It's so dim in there. Overall, its a good place to go if you dont wanna hit up the bars out of town and they have dancing which is a plus.

Drinkers always have a driver. Police love to roam Pacific and Lincoln Center area!

Now that I've frequented this place a few more times, I've come to realize that their drinks are usually a hit or miss.  I'm a big fan of Long Islands....but not here. I'm also very much into Royal Teas (they call it
Purple Rain here...haha)....but not here also.  I've had a few good things here, like the Sex On the Beach and other concotions that I've tried by taking sips of friends' drinks...but never got their names.  Their "shots" in those test tubes are usually pretty good, but they don't get the job done if you know what I mean.

Anyway...if you're hitting up the bar, just beware.  You may, or may not be happy with what you get.

Ten dollars at the door? That's crazy for a bar in Stockton! Although they do have a lot of hot ladies there for me to prey on, and it is very helpful that most the girls there are way past the point of the legal limit. YEAH BOY! As long as you don't get stabbed by any of the Stockton "gangstas" there is an eighty percent chance of leaving with a lady for the night.

Went on a friday night in the summer.

Word of Advice...go there before 11pm even 10pm to avoid paying a 10 DOLLAR COVER CHARGE. WTF its Stockton.

i did like the variety of music they played. Janet Jackson, Sublime, Britney.

Waited too long at the bar though.

a night that doesnt end in fights is a plus.

I will probably never go to this place again. I went on college night, so I didn't have to pay a cover, thank god. The second I walk in, I go to the bar and order a cherry bomb. The guy gives us vodka and redbull in a plastic cup! Yeah, I understand that that's the recipe SOMETIMES, but a plastic cup?? I was told this place was supposed to be classier. especially if youre paying 7 dollars for a drink, I'd expect a little more than a plastic cup.

Anyway, it's overpriced, ghetto (plastic cups), it's douchbag central (while i was there there, I counted over 8 ed hardy shirts, idk maybe it's just a stockton thing.), and the bar tender was kind of an ass.

I suggest if you go, don't have any kind of expectation.

Ah 856.. a.k.a. "the place called the 3 numbers I can never remember."  Doesn't help that Brandenburg's down the street was known as 276 for a while.

I've been here around the same time last year after we couldn't get into Envy- it was the Thursday night before graduation, the tiny club was already packed, and Brandenburg's was closed down.  I don't remember having much fun then- I guess I just wanted to be where all the people were!

Then BAM, one year later it's our turn to graduate and we find ourselves here again.  Nothing crazy though- dance floor was yet to be opened, people were watching the NBA playoffs.. it was 9pm on a Monday night after all.  Loved the bartender, he was hella chill.  Although the kitchen was closed, he allowed my friend to satisfy his craving for the buffalo wings, which hit the spot.  His long islands tasted like death though, DEATH I SAY.  They were 99% hard liquor, with a splash of coke for color.

I found it pretty entertaining when an older couple and some townies started battling each other over the jukebox.  Yeah baby, country vs. Lady GaGa.

So all in all, bartender was a cool guy who made a strong, albeit terrible drink, and the crowd had horrible taste in music.  I don't want to hear any more about riding disco sticks.  By the time more of my classmates wandered in, I was ready to call it a night.  Peace outtt

This place was cool when I first turned 21. Thursdays were awesome. I especially liked my Bartender BRIAN W. He was awesome. I may be biased since he is my best friends step brother, but he was an awesome bartender there. Since he left I haven't been back. The reason why I never went on the weekends to this place was because it got really ghetto in there. Also, I heard that they put in a dance floor, which I guess is cool if you are into that sort of thing, but I am more of a person who just wants to have a few drinks and kick it. I recommend this place because it is a safer bar to go to due to the location (Lincoln Center, safest place in Stockton).

Food is not that great. Go to the Alder Market if you want a nice dinner.
As far as cocktails - excellent. Good looking, experienced bar tenders. Great mojitos, key lime pie shots, and tons of fine wines.
Now, as far as the 'nightlife' crowd:
Weeknights: couples and older folks gather in the lounge for late night appetizers and drinks while listening to the jukebox  Great date atmosphere!
Weekends: it is mostly 20 somethings and older rich guys hoping to get lucky. For girls, it's good for them, free drinks. Mostly yuppie kids getting absolutely faded. But exciting thing is now they have a dance floor now and Dj so you can watch drunk girls get down ;) To keep ghetto out -$5 dollar cover charge thurs-sat, unless you are in the know.
PS: all bars in Lincoln center are the safest in town with the best cocktails. Not really my crowd tho...

It was Friday night and some friends were here for some reason calling and trying to lure me there.  In Stockton?  I heard it had a decent happy hour, but I wasn't expecting much from a Friday night in Stockon.  Most Stockton night spots (other than Basil's) have been wannabe clubs that are too loud and too cliquey, if not too ghetto.  Was this going to be another one of those places bizarre Stockton places were hella dudes cluster near the bathrooms positioned stare and holla at the girls waiting in line to relieve themselves??

I drove up still undecided whether to go in, especially since I saw the guy at the door collecting a cover.   Hmmm, I see a patio that didn't seem to be populated by douchebags or ganstas.  I choose to go inside biting the $5 cover bullet.  I looked around.  Hmmm....ot of people in their 20s that seemed to be in a pretty good mood....decent music with people dancing in one room....eessential "too drunk girl" giving the gift of a drunken lapdance to no on in particular.  Not bad.  I could now relax and enjoy the Friday night with the crew.

Drinks (Didn't have to wait long there were 2 to 3 bartenders at all times.):

Crown and diet coke was potent.  Nice! $7
A few beers on tap. Opted for Sierra Nevada.  $4

If this place didn't have a cover I'd  think about giving it 4 stars.  Perhaps cover keeps a from Stockton hangout from getting excessively ghetto????

I went with a friend to try out this place.
First of all, the service was horrible. We had to wait a long time to get seated and the food came out late too.
    Second, food was not great.
We tried the calamari strips, new york steak stroganoff, and chicken parmesan. YUCK!
It didn't have enough salt content in the food.
It was pricey for what it was worth.

    What a bad experience!

I took my GF here to celebrate the end of finals.  I had come across the place while shopping at Trader Joe's. When we walked in the bartender asked us "What do we want?"  Not very welcoming.

After being seated the waitress asked us what we would like to drink without offering us a beverage or wine list.  There was nothing that stood out so we ordered Mojitos.  They were pleasant but I do not think the mint leaves should be brown.  Bread was delivered cold with butter.

I ordered the pasta pommodoro and calamari appetizer and Taryn had the tortellini with chicken.  Instead of the sun-dried cream sauce she requested the alfredo.  The food arrived 20 minutes later warm.  Taryn's tortellini had the sun dried tomato sauce.  She said she did not want to wait so she declined to have them fix it.  The description of the calamari said strips.  I was expecting strips of squid breaded and fried.  Instead they were actual strips much like fish sticks.  They fell apart when you tried to eat them and the sauce seemed like a tarter sauce without a hint of dill as promised.  My pommodoro was pathetic. There were 3 tomatoes in a dish that tasted like olive oil was poured over pasta.  The sauce lacked any flavor. Furthermore it was delivered with grated cheese over it.  Why they would think that I would want that on a lite pasta dish is beyond me.

Service was ok.  For the most part we were ignored.  We wanted to be alone so this was not so bad.  However at one moment I was leaning over to sneak a kiss when the waitress appeared and reached across the table and over our food to add water.

From what I understand they do meat very well.  However with the number of other alternatives in the area I will not be coming back to verify this.

I had always been meaning to go here but just never got around to it.  I ordered the rib-eye steak instead of the prime rib because business looked kind of slow that day and figured it would be my best chance at a good meal.

Everything was outstanding.  The rib-eye was cooked just as I ordered it (med rare) and the fries were cooked just right.  Not overcooked, not oily and with just the right amount of salt.

I'll definitely need to go back to try their other selections.

Hmmm. I'm gonna give 856 the benefit of the doubt.

I've had such bad luck with Stockton restaurants the last couple of years that this place was a lot better than most I'd been to.

The waitress was great, and even though nothing took that long, she comped us a round of drinks for "waiting so long."

The highligh was the quesadilla as mentioned by others.

How are the burgers? I opted for eggplant parmesan and kinda regretted it.

    Steak fries: Perfect.

856 is my favorite place to go out in Stockton, the drinks are great (happy hour specials to die for), the barstaff is friendly (ask them to play the B Wong mega-mix on the jukebox) and the menu is stellar. The Peppercorn steak is fab, as is the brie and bleu cheese quesadilla.

Well, I can mostly say that 856 is a treat to be experienced.  The food is absolutely out of this world!  One time, their A/C was out and the waitress placed 3 fans on us to assure our comfort.   I ALWAYS get the blackened prime rib.  The service is wonderful... and the bartender makes a killer cocktail.
